I'm looking for the part that illuminates the cigarette lighter. Yep, the orange wire with the metal clip & bulb part. Mine is missing. I'm in Canada, let me know what you have and hopefully shipping will be cheap, stuff it in a padded envelope :)

Fix Radio Lcd? Blank No Readout
91Pioneer replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh bad news. I got the wires all soldered, split loom, and wrapped in electrical tape, it looks spanky new and professional. I even verified there is 12V on the orange/blk wire and... the illumination in the radio is faulty. Unfortunately that radio on eBay which is bidding for $19 has a whopping $33.62 shipping charge to Canada... so I guess I'll just keep looking for a radio. If anyone in Canada has a radio for sale cheap please let me know. -
Wow, some of you guys are really stuck in the 90's. :teehee:

I didn't get a chance to probe the wire today, but I did pull the radio. Yikes. It looks like the previous owner just twisted the wires together and put electrical tape on them, all of 'em. So... before I worry about powering one wire, I'm gonna solder every wire so it's good as new. Just one more thing on my to-do list, which is growing daily LOL -
Hey man, you really need to update your thread

Oh wow that link gogmorgo, amazing stuff. I will peruse those docs before dropping any cash. It looks like one of them is a scanned copy of that book on eBay... Stacks, the 88 FSM is in that link. Well I'll definitely look through those docs now before buying anything. Sometimes I still like to have printed copies though. If I have the elec copies, I can always wait until a real cheap paper copy shows up on eBay since I'm not in a rush  Thanks folks.

Yeah one thing I'm discovering is wiring diagrams would be extremely helpful right now... I emailed that seller you mentioned a few days ago because he doesn't have a shipping rate, didn't hear back yet. I'm all over that electrical book.

OK I'm looking for a good factory service manual for my '88. Is this what I want? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1986-1987-1988-Jeep-Comanche-Truck-Shop-Manual-Laredo-Chief-Pioneer-Eliminator-/400431404898?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=item5d3b925762&vxp=mtr

Get a new smartphone and a really good case. Seriously. I've got an iPhone 5S and it takes marvelous photos, I use that 99.9% of the time. The odd time I pull out my DSLR but only on special occasions. Standalone daily use digital cameras are obsolete. But... if you insist on buying a *camera* camera, I would recommend you get one that does not take AA or AAA batteries. I've had a few point-and-shoot digital cameras, I deliberately pick ones with their own batteries. That type tends to have smaller batteries that are rechargeable and last longer. I've had good experience with a Kodak camera, I'm not sure if they still make 'em though.

Fix Radio Lcd? Blank No Readout
91Pioneer replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What I meant by "fixed easily" is can I take the cover off and change a bulb, that kind of DIY fix. There's no way I'm having a tech fix this if it's broken, I'll just buy another radio. :driving: -
PayPal - money sent for handle/cable and center seat belt latch/strap. Thanks.

Fix Radio Lcd? Blank No Readout

If they don't light up, can they be replaced/fixed easily? It could just be a wiring issue, I'll try to get to that tomorrow. -

Thanks, that's very helpful. I will check that out. -
OK so my 88 Comanche has a radio like this but worn a bit more: The buttons work OK, I can turn it on, turn up bass, fader works, choose FM, seek, etc. However, it does not light up at all. The back-lighting for the buttons & screen doesn't work when the headlight switch is on. The LCD display is blank at all times, even during the day. Is it possible to fix this easily or should I just try to locate a replacement? Honestly I'm not looking to upgrade, I mostly just listen to FM radio so I want to stick fairly stock. Plus crooks don't want to steal an old 80's factory radio LOL. Thx.

Uh-Oh, I Think The Harmonic Balancer Is Bad...
91Pioneer replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK well long story short I ordered the Dorman one and I'll buy the seal locally due to shipping costs. -
p.p.s. You don't also happen to have a non-broken interior pillar light and a blue middle seat belt set do you?
-
My Comanche only came with two seat belts. I need the middle one, preferably in matching dark blue. Also, a bonus would be two of the plastic pieces that fit around the belts where they go into the seat. Let me know what you have. Thx.
-
OK well a pic is not necessary as long as we're talking about the same part, the short piece with the plastic handle on one end. I googled and looked on ebay for park brake handle cable stuff and wow, all they want to give me is the cables under the truck, I don't need them. No frays = sold! p.s. Nice truck BTW
-
I PM'd you. E-mail me a pic, let's see if we can make a deal LOL.
-
I discovered my park brake cable, the short piece at the other end of the handle is frayed real bad and hanging on by a thread, literally. Looking for the assembly, in as good of shape as possible... let me know what you have. Thx.
-
Looks good man. I just bought an 88 Pioneer a few days ago and I think mine is in worse shape, I paid much more, but so far no major electrical problems ;)

Is it "timing cover seal"? RockAuto shows a Victor Reinz 46134, DNJ TC1122 and SKF 17806, I think that's what I'm looking for...???? -

So I'll probably wind up buying the Dorman HB, do you know do the HB's come with the oil seal that fits on the timing chain cover?? If not, please give me a part # for it that I can use at RockAuto. Thx. -

For as much as I drive my truck any cheapo will work I think, even Dorman. I'll call some parts stores tomorrow to find out what brands they carry (not a whole lot of Dorman stuff here in Canada, well no big stuff, just the little stuff).
