chrysler 8.25 swap setting pinion angle
xjrev10 replied to Newton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just eyeballed mine. It points up a little bit. Never an issue. Not rocket science. But some make it that way. -
It's worth a grand if it runs and drives and isn't very rusty. It's got enough miles in it which would t make me worry about the 0331 head issues. Check the coolant level though.... Bad injector? Maybe. Bad fuel pressure regulator, maybe. Bad TPS, possible.

Chrysler 8.25 disc brake swap
xjrev10 replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a WJ master/booster, rear discs in my 8.25. Deleted the load sending valve and plugged the port in the prop valve and the line in the back of the truck. Works great. Never messed with internals of the prop valve. Couldn't be happier with my braking performance. -
Maybe tire pressure? Nobody suggested that.
-
Yeah. That's what I was thinking. Go with a larger tire. Or at least try it first. You'll need a different carrier for your Dana 30 too if you go from 4:10 to 3:55.

I paid $300ish for a later model windshield in my Comanche. Done in my driveway. -

Nice looking truck! Love me a white MJ! -
He's got a XJ he drives and wheels the snot out of.

Some folks like to keep their Jeep, Jeep. I'd take a 3.6 in my MJ over an LS any day. Just to be different. I take it nobody has seen a swap in a MJ/XJ yet. I'm sure it's coming.

Looking for a zero rust straight short box. MN, SD, ND, MT, WY, CO, NE, UT...... Will travel.

Bring this back from the dead. These engines are plentiful and are getting fairly cheap... Wiring is still a real issue but with everybody swapping them out for Hemis or Diesels, they are very available....

Looking for a low range option
xjrev10 replied to JasonB's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Only thing I have to add is that the nv3550 has a lower first gear then the ax15. (Love mine) A nsg370 takes some doing to install due to an integral bell housing and the crank sensor becomes a issue. I'm still waiting for a successful swap behind a renix. I know Pete Trasborg did one in his red MJ but I could never find the specific info about the crank sensor. I'd also like to know where you are finding a rock trac for $1200! -
Yep. Exactly what I did.
-
I have one on my nv3550! Very nice piece and nice shifting too!

I upgraded my injectors and bought new injector o rings for a 88 renix right from carquest. Worked like a charm. Make sure you use a little bit of lube on them.

What's a Aussie lift and any idea on tire size? I thought we couldn't lift these things.

We test drove one this weekend for the wife. It was a plain Jain Renegade. I didn't like it. She wanted more fancy options and we might be driving a new Dart home today. We can't swing the 30gs for a Trail Hawk currently. My take is is the only ones worth owning are the Trail Hawk models, Renegade or Cherokee. Patriot/Compass are cheaply built and feel that way. We owned a 2014 Patriot for a year.

First thing I would say is fuel filters, then air filter. If not those, must be internal pump problems. Really smokey?

Craigslist is a pain sometimes. You could also not leave your phone number and make them email you a number for you to call them. Friend of mine does lots of dealing on CL and he's done it that way for a long time. Rarely have any issue. Good luck.

I seen it done somewhere on the interwebs but it's been a few years. The filler was in the box floor itself. Would be cool for a road tripper. Have a selector type switch like the older fords and double the range! Road trip range may sound attractive at first. But I can tell you a 1200 mile range between refueling stops does not translate into no stops for 1200 miles. Your bladder will require you to stop every 3 or 400 miles. My 23.5 gallon tank can last more than 500 miles, if I slow down to just below 60 mph, I get 23+ mpg with my 4.0 and AW4 transmission. Even without slowing down, I can get 18+ mpg and that translates to more than 400 miles per tank. Now if you still want to add a second tank, you have 2 options: 1) Relocate the muffler and tailpipe, then put a stock tank on the passenger side. That has been done by one club member. 2) Put a 19 gallon tank from a Ford F150 pickup in the rear spare tire location. The Ford tank is only about 8.5 inches high, so will not cost any ground clearance. I have a aux fuel tank in my tow pig. (50 gallon Transfer Flow) It's nice not to have to stop for fuel every 200 miles. My Ram is a little more comfortable then a MJ. I think my legs would fall asleep before my bladder becomes a issue driving the MJ long distance. One other thing consider is weight. Fuel is around 7-8lbs a gallon. No biggy for a 3/4 ton, but weight would add up quick in a 1/4 ton.

Correct. The problem with others is your brake light switch and you must modify the firewall. (With a hammer just like any other jeep mod) I have a WJ master/booster and did NOT swap out the prop valve. I eliminated the load sensing valve and plugged the hole for it on the prop valve. With rear discs, my truck stops perfect.
