  1. Remember your MJ driveshaft is a lot longer then your wrangler shaft with will elevate some problems.
  2. I guess what I want to know is how to replicate what crown sells with off the shelf parts. The other options above are listed. 95-96 XJ is bolt in. WJ stuff takes a little extra effort. Both the options I listed can be done for less then $100.
  3. Yep. Remember wheel spacers are needed to get the track width to match the front also. Could be an issue for some.
  4. Rotella in the engine, Rotella in the transmission. (I have Royal Purple sync max in my nv3550)
  5. My setup... Parts store special radiator New hoses Old school green anti freeze Flow cooler water pump 180 degree t stat New fan clutch Renix with open cooling. Fan is the OE fan on a manual switch. I kick the fan on at 200ish. Never seen the temp over 205 with this setup...yet. Fan is rarely needed. With this truck, I don't care about efficient operation, I want it to work. It still makes enough heat to get comfortable in the cab below 20 degrees also.
  6. I ran one in my XJ and then put it in my MJ. Beat the snot out of it with a stroker motor and 35's with an ARB. I never had a single issue, I did upgrade to chromolly shafts after a few years, just for piece of mind. Pretty much my exact report. My axle was built over a decade ago with 4.56s and an ARB. It's run 35s most of its life, now on Hutchinson bead locks and 34in tires. No worries.
  7. How much did you have to add? Couldn't have been much. The snout on a 8.25 is 1/2" longer then a 35...
  8. Crown? I'm missing your question I guess. Crown is a manufacture of parts for Jeeps of all vintage.. I'd never spend that much on a setup.. I probably have $350 in my complete brake system on my truck including slotted rotors, new calipers, hoses etc.
  9. Yeah 97 or newer will for sure be the 29 spline. Brakes are not the same as a Dana 35 drum. They are actually smaller. Discs are a possibility, not necessarily cheap or simple though. I have ZJ discs on my 8.25. KJ discs are bolt on and probably the easiest. Lots of info out there.
  10. For which one? 95-96 XJ and WJs I've always used them as a unit.
  11. West bound and down!
  12. Anything "Comanche specific" is worth owning.
  13. 96 or newer XJ or WJ master booster is the most economical. Great write up on here for the WJ one.
  14. New spacer and the plate for the unibody is all you need. Every XJ/MJ I get from now on is getting them. Ripping a steering box out is no fun. Can never have enough ragitiy to that area of your truck, even if you're sticking with 31s.
  15. Take the drop kit out and get yourself a Hack N Tap sye kit and a new rear driveshaft. Or get a actual sye kit for your 231. If you're buying new shafts anyway, might as well do it right.
  16. But this one is just a spacer, it does not have a forth hole for increased structural strength. I have to check to see if the 4 hole spaces will work for me, as I'll be installing a Boostwerks steering brace at the same time. That ultimate steering brace? Holy smokes that thing is beef. I'd spend the few extra 100 and get a redneck ram hydro assist and just be done. That will take all the stress of steering off the uni frame, and put the stress on the axle.
  17. But this one is just a spacer, it does not have a forth hole for increased structural strength. Why would you need to do that? This is direct beefy replacement for the broken aluminum one. But you must combine with the brace too. It's just a plate that goes on the outside of the uniframe rail that grabs every available hole it can. There are better choices for this plate out there in my opinion, that grab onto the sway bar mounting holes but I think that's WAY overkill.
  18. http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/10505.html Combine this with the brace. I'd even do it on a stock truck.

    Can't win

I think you're due for a new build thread. :peek: I honestly don't know how folks have the time and patience to do a build thread. You do a very nice job, me? Not so much. It's a 98, same color as yours, same build plan. (My version)
  20. So nowadays SKF is our best bet by opinion?

Ha. This just happened to be this week kind of. Random guy at work asks if I wanna buy a Cherokee.. I've bought 3 in the last month working to get one good one out of them for a new trail rig. Of course I had to own his too.
  22. What do you have for a brake booster? on the MJ? factory  You will realize more braking improvement on your MJ by changing to a dual diaphragm booster and master cylinder from a 99 to 2004 wJ than by adding rear disc brakes. Or do both and have pure braking awesomeness. I have ZJ rear discs in my 8.25, slotted rotors in the front and a WJ Master/Booster.
  23. XJ and MJs are Legos. (Neohic) All the parts interchange. Trans, t case, linkage (Novak cable shifter awesome) front axle, drive lines. Make sure your front and year ratios match.
  24. Also got to meet Joe briefly at the Quadratec dinner in Moab a few weeks ago! Wish we could have gotten a pic but the weather was miserable. Congrats on MJOTM!
  25. Mine hit 92 mph riding on my gooseneck along with the WK headed to Moab a few weeks ago.
