  1. It's Opsled/JeepcoMJ's old truck... And by chance... Did you try calling the number on the listing? That would be my first step... Rob
  2. All of you are nuts. Hardwood floors and roofing tar is the way to go. Don't ever have to worry about rust again, just have to run the swiffer every once and awhile to keep things on the up and up.
  3. They are. I forget the year break now, but the fake beadlock around the rim went away in the last year or two of the Eliminators. Edit, BJ beat me to it while I was typing it out. Quicker draw than myself.
  4. Call it my 'No soldier left behind' mentality, and whowey can attest to this, but if we run across an MJ at the yard... All easily removable MJ specific parts will come home with me. Tailgates are low hanging fruit. No tools needed, just grab and go. While not a horrible idea, it lead to me having a collection of tailgates in miserable condition. Midwest lip rot, dents, scratches... 75% of which would never get redone to be something like they once were. I had a stack of them in the corner of the garage. Last week, I noticed an ad on CL looking for older, stamped steel tailgates. Curiosity got the best of me. I had an idea of what the purpose was... Few years ago I noticed people building benches and tables out of them to put in their mancaves and dens. He called back a few days later, and sure enough, he was using them for just that. I told him about my stack, and we worked out a deal. I gave him all the gates, some bleacher wood I salvaged for material (Because I was set out to do the same, just no time), and an old park bench for parts. In exchange, I set aside 2 gates and he's making me up 2 benches to keep. Not a bad deal for a bunch of gates that had no home other than rotting away or being thrown out. Additionally, there will be a bunch of MJ gates flying around repurposed as furniture... How cool is that? On top of that, he picked everything up in an XJ. Man after our own hearts. He said he will most likely keep the patina, flake off any loose stuff, and matte clear the gates as is. Previous benches he's made and sent me pics of: Once he has a few of them done, I told him to let me know, and I would make a for sale ad for him in the classifieds. He was excited to get the gates, said the size could make them good coffee tables. Maybe some could end up in your home. I'll keep you guys posted. Rob
  5. On the '97+ models, the 3 cycle ignition trick will just make the codes read out on the digital ODO... Even better. Rob
  6. Was on Facebook today when Rockauto announced they would be closed for the holiday, so I asked if they do any sales... This was the response: So, if you have anything waiting. Go ahead and order it. As soon as my drums are back in stock, I'll be all over it. Rob
  7. I was always under the impression they originated in the arctic expedition vehicles also. For the same reason, to keep the front end from falling into a crevasse. Rob
  8. Was bored sitting around today and ran across a good read on Jalopnik. Worth the 5 minutes to read for the Jeep enthusiast. http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/my-dd-is-loud-obnoxious-and-impractical-and-i-love-i-1469525602 I always look back. Rob
  9. The Jeep is all hers. She said part of the divorce was that thw Jeep was left to the daughters for their car. Now that they have the Durango, it's not needed. I have no reason to think otherwise. Rob
  10. Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like the $4500-5500 is right in the arena I was shooting for. I plan on making an offer, as well as explaining what I found. I will most likely also link her to this thread. Alexia, I'm with ya. It's really going to depend on what she wants out of it. I don't think she has the time to spend tinkering with it. I may just shoot out a take it off your hands price, as well as a 'This is what I would charge to fix x, and this is how much more it would add to the value...' Brett, I found about the same thing. Prices are all over the board a the dealers... $6-13K. Private party seems to be $6500, but they are mint condition and no problems whatsoever. Another thing I noticed, that out of the 3 I found on the local CL from the early 2000's, all are Solar Yellow. She just bought a newer Durango for her kids as she felt it would be a safer, more reliable mode of transport for them. One is on a learners permit and one is going into college. The biggest worry is her ex husband, who told her it was worth $10K at one point, today I think she said he told her it was worth $8K but a co-worker would buy it for $7500 after she said he needed to release his half of the title. Rob
  11. Have to come here and check with those who know better than I. I know we have a few TJ nuts, so I wanted to see if I was correct in my value. Awhile back, I offered my Jeeply services to an instructor at the local county college whose daughters had a Wrangler they were thinking about getting rid of. She was very nice, and understanding of my employment frustrations (Long story), so I had no problem helping. I told her I would be happy to come out and take a look, see what it needs, and help her sell it. She called me earlier in the week, and I agreed to come out and take a gander. Made the trip out tonight after work. I spent a half hour poking, prodding, crawling, and looking at it just before it got dark. Took it for a short spin around the cul-de-sac (no plates). Our area is NW of Chicago, so we are deep in the rust belt. Keep this in mind. Details: 2001 Wrangler TJ Sport, 4.0L, Auto, 4x4, 112K miles Pics: At first glance... Looks to be in ok shape, but showing its age. Remarks: Valve cover gasket leaking pretty good. Trans pan gasket was leaking and spotting just after it sitting in the driveway for a short time, in multiple spots. Muffler is starting to rust out not long before it blows through. Front bumper is beyond repairing, will have to be replaced. Front left brake is grabbing pretty hard, would lock up the front left wheel just taking it around the cul-de-sac. Interior has stains, wear, carpet stained around console, seats show staining. Clear coat is peeling behind drivers door, other places also I am sure. Frame is starting to get crusty by the belly pan/crossmember. It passed the ball peen tap test without blowing through. Fender flares pretty cooked/faded. General 12+ year old wear and tear... Scratches and what not. No stock soundbar, but just at a glance, it has home stereo speakers on either side of the rear seat. Has to be the least desirable color combo with the maroon/tan. Don't know if that affects it. Missing wheel cap. Soft top in the midwest, half doors, no hard uppers. Good points: Pretty strong runner. 4.0L to boot. No Check Engine Codes stored or pending Top end looks clean through the oil cap, no sludge. Suspension looks pretty tight, no play in the joints. Top appears to be in OK shape. All this being said, a TJ is a bit out of my wheelhouse. My gut says that with the work it will need, and the age and condition of the Jeep in general, I would shoot at $5,000 +/- $500. I would think $5500 would be the top edge of it, and that would be if someone overlooked some of the issues. I would think it needs the gaskets, front brakes, rears gone through and adjusted, a good cleaning, replace the bumper and give it some spit/polish on the outside if I were to buy. The KBB says about $6800 in fair condition private party. (Fair being the lowest they will offer a value on, I think this falls below fair by a bit) I just don't see a $6000-7000 price tag... Especially for a 12+ year old vehicle with said issues. Does this sound about in line for price? Am I overlooking something? Any thoughts or input is welcomed. Thanks, Rob
  12. Eagle, figured I would chime in here with more info. I have some time off coming up soon, and wanted to get my ducks in a row to get the fogs in my XJ. First, popped open the PDC to check for the fog relay pins... Nada. Empty. Even pulled up the cover over the pins to see if they dead-ended in there... Nope. Next, I moved to the C106 connector at the headlight harness to see if the wires may possibly be that far, as they go from the switch directly to the fogs, per the diagram. Nothing there either. It's too dark and cold to do it right now, but the next step is to check at the C100 connector at the dash to see if I can pick up the switch wiring, or find out where it dead ends. The wiring is at the switch, so maybe I won't have to entirely run wire... But most likely I will have to do the rest. Going to do like Don and make a dedicated load circuit controlled by a relay VIA the factory switch. Also have the Putco head light harness conversion for a cleaner power to the headlamps waiting. Rob
  13. Just curious about if they do anything crazy for the holidays. This year was the first year I ever really started relying on them for parts, and I have a fair amount of stuff in the cart for one of the MJ's. Wondering if it would pay off to wait a week or two. I have the normal 5% off like you can always find, but wanted to see if there is something worth holding out for. Thanks, Rob
  14. Yes. I think through '90. More prevalent in the earlier years. The Diesel has one... But the 4.0L is the same, minus the boost gauge. Rob
  15. This was JeepcoMJ and OPsled's Jeep. Rob
  16. ANACORTES, Wash. — An Oak Harbor family devastated by an alleged drunken driving crash is mourning one teen--and praying her twin sister survives. Alysha Pickler, 18, and twin 17-year-old sisters Janesah and Janeah Goheen were heading to a Seattle haunted house for Halloween Thursday night. Officers say 53-year-old Ira Blackstock crossed the centerline and slammed into them. Janeah was killed. Janesah was flown to Harborview Medical Center and rushed into surgery. She's in serious condition. According to court papers, Alysha is suffering amnesia and doesn't remember what happened. "It's been a really hard day for everyone. A lot of people were crying. There was a lot of sadness," said Larissa Escamilla, a classmate at Oak Harbor High School. "It's just been sad. A lot of hugs and stuff," said classmate Dallas Breilein. Officers say Blackstock showed 6 of 6 possible signs of intoxication. His eyes were watery and his voice was weak. A Bible and pamphlet for Alcoholics Anonymous were found in the back seat. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and assault. The twins, who have three other sisters, lost one of them in a car crash 5 years ago. A memorial is set up for the 23-year-old in the family's front yard. Friends now praying for Janesah say they only hope this site of grief does not grow. "I really feel bad for her family and I hope everything will get better as fast as it can," said Escamilla. http://www.kirotv.com/news/news/1-teen-killed-2-injured-crash-near-anacortes/nbfPj/ Link has video with MJ. 17. I don't think the full cluster blue faced gauges were available in the HO years. You would have to use a full cluster housing with the correct foil back. Then maybe see about swapping in all blue faced gauges... Only problem I could forsee is the difference in required voltages for the fuel gauge and possibly one or two others. That, and pin location for the new/old gauges. Rob
  18. In my opinion, they are growing one me. Yes, I will most likely never get over the front end. The interior, sides, rear, all look great. I love that it is on a modified euro chassis, the ride and road feel should be spot on. I love the engine options. I like that Chrysler is putting money and design into Jeep. The bottom line is just like others have said. They need to build what will sell. A boxy, truck-riding SUV or yore will not do it anymore. Smooth lines, crossovers, and car-like rides are what is doing it. Fiat having a hand in it is only a good thing. Sergio Marchionne turned that company around, and I hope that he does the same with our Chrysler/Jeep lines. I remember watching a 60 minute special about his background and what he is doing in Chrysler. Incredible man. Hard worker, not above everyone else, and down to earth. Just the kind of person we needed at the helm. I look at it like this... The more money they make selling their Patriots, Wranglers, Compasses, Grand Cherokees, and Cherokees means they will have more money to play with and explore with other things. I mean, just look what happened a few years ago with the FC concept, the Gladiator redux, and the whole lot of concepts they released. More play money means more cool stuff... Rob
  19. Rear bumper is from a Dakota. Look closely at the step portion... You can make out the Ram's head. Rob
  20. Off by a year. I have the complete harness for a 1991 Laredo 4.0L auto 4x4 with power everything, even keyless. Rob
  21. Just fix what is actually broken and stop trying to work around the problem. Not addressing the true problem is more of a problem than the actual problem. Rob
  22. I had to step down from the picking due to life at the moment. It is now a project of Neohic, but it is more of a 'private' selection, and then the moderators discuss thoughts on the selection. Ben may chime in if he has anything more to add. Rob
