  1. #1 compression loss could also be head gasket ,since your in there anyway ...pull the head ,take a look , do the valves (cheap) check for cracks etc. ,put it all together again . The bottom ends on the 2.5 are very stout , chances are , re-freshing the head and a new timing chain will give you many years of good service .(NOMB but find a new mechanic )
  2. I like the louvered hood idea and the double rock rails (yours or PO ? ) I see your no stranger to metal fabrication and welding
  3. :clapping: Good to see a young man " Cowboy Up " . Well done !
  4. Try a marine stainless grill .....I have a " FORCE 10 " unit , absolutely bullet-proof , instant heat and super economical ,a 20lb bottle will last all summer and half the winter . Everthing is stainless , so you can leave it outside uncovered with out worry about it looking like a MJ rocker panel by spring
  5. Go with the basics : Compression test , (check the plugs while their out ) , spark on all 4 ? , then follow your curiousity to the mysteries of the innards . And yes its OK to run the engine sans valve cover for short periods of time , rags around the perifery are a prudent precaution (you will get splattered a bit ). Have fun , count your digits after .
  6. I'll give it a try , actually I remember finding a "brake shoe return spring " on the floor a while back and thinking that was kinda odd , I guess thats the missing spring ? Hopefully I can find a spring to fit :hmm: Found a carb linkage spring that fits perfect  It helped a bit , but still wouldn't hold consistantly .The top spring is pretty weak , so I did a temp fix by wrapping a rubber band around the pawl release . That seems to be working , hopefully long enough for me to find the correct top replacement spring  Thanks mfpdm for walking me through this ,much appreciated

  8. A lot of times when the ratchet stops working is because the spring has broke or fallen off. It's located at the top and holds resistance on the ratchet. Check that out and if it is not the problem I have one listed in the classifieds. Checked the springs (thanks for the photo , very helpful ) and found top one in place but the lower one at the cable attachment missing . Could this be part of the problem , or is the spring just to return the pedal on release ? :dunno:
  9. PM me I'll try to explain it to you
  10. Now to us up here yall is a southerner ....and we likes 'em ......WELCOME
  11. I havn't found the canadian section yet It's just to your left when your looking at the north pole , ends where the sun sets on that other ocean ( also it's in the C.C. Meet 'n Greet ) :fool:
  12. E-brake broken , have tried cleaning but the ratchet just won't hold . Is the MJ e-brake the same as CJ or YJ models ? Any suggestions on where to source a new replacement assembly ? :dunno:

Addiction is a wonderful (JEEP) thing
  14. Howdy from the other coast , are you planning to post on the Canadian :Canadaflag: section as well eh?
  15. Finally painted the new grill and trim ,replaced lexan fog lite shields....glad I left h/lite trim black , not like everybody elses MJ/XJ grill treatment . Whadda think ?
  16. Looks good , straight , no rust showing (yet ) and the big bonus of easy access to the PO for history . I,m jeolous
  17. Thats exactly the reason I like this set up , I,ve had hard toppers but it,s APITA taking them on-off-on depending on what your hauling and the weather . I've used soft tonneaus as well ,but it's always a compromize trying to carry something "just a little too big/tall " in poor weather as well .....As to holding up to the rigors of foul weather , my boat sits open to the weather in our local marina(here on the WET coast ) with a simular top that has held up for over a decade . I recently inquired to a local marine top maker about building a topper like this and they said they couldn't make it for twice the price....Just food for thought :wavey:
  18. See if they will give us (Comanche Club ) a deal on multibles ? Maybe they will pay you a commission ($600 ) for the intro to such a fine customer base !
  19. Went through simular "no start" Although it was intermitant to begin with ,it quickly became as yours ,went thru all the hoops and finally found defective ECU was the culprit :agree:
  20. I'm not 100% sure on this but it appears that Toyota Tacoma & Ford Rangers w/ 72-73" bed are fairly close . I've looked at a number of sliding & folding tonneau sites and depending on the fastening system these 2 models are close enough to work on our SWB trucks . Try looking @ Softoppers (Colorado ) as thier system looks adjustable enough to work on MJ beds , let us know what you think of it
  21. :???: Well , you should ditch that VIN info on your old site . According to your info my MJ was built in the US for export w/RHD , the buid tag on the truck says made in Canada W/ California emissions package (req. in BC :Canadaflag: ) ,oh ya it's LHD . Good intentions I,m sure , but bad info :wavey:
