"97 Swap Fuel Pump Question
87Warrior replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This is one area I am not 100% which direction I want to go. 1) Follow Woodkrawlers way on JF 2) TJ fuel tank/sender and gauge cluster Shelbyluv does a good job showing what he had to do in order to get the TJ tank in place. We all know where to find that information. 3) Jeepman's adaptation of the XJ fuel pump/sender into a 1st gen 15gal Dakota tank. -
Hope you can get back soon with everything in good shape. MJ running well? Not exactly, the project is moving forward though.

Hey, its not like you are leaving the Jeep lifestyle. I also suggest passing the MJ to somebody who wants it and will continue the level of work you have done to it. But...a car!? Ugh, XJ or WJ

Bad day too? :dunce:

Oh man, my MJ must have been a luxury edition... It did have intermittent wipers!

This Weather Sucks

How are the chokes on those 2.8s operated? I had similar issues with my old 4.2 YJ. Replaced the vacuum diaphragm and she ran great in the cold, with exception of the piston slap.... And yeah, its only down to the 20s down there isn't it? -

TBI or carb? If carb, does your choke work? -
Oh yes. Cruise, tilt steering, power windows, power locks, keyless entry, auto dim mirror with temp/compass, and AC is how I am building my 99 conversion. My rubi was the first auto dim mirrored rig I drove. Now I can't live without it. I get very frustrated when driving the XJ at night...

X2 :waving:

Those on an XJ? :shake: ah, its your Jeep. If the bolt pattern is the same, verify the wheels are hub-centric. I would guess they require special lug nuts, but I can't say for sure.

I think the club needs to organize a cross country trek in a few years. Travel together, meet as we go, and convoy to a destination we can all agree upon. Then it would truly be MJs across America. Moab would be a neat destination, but only a few rigs are set up for that. Colorado trail running would be fun! Plus we could all stay at Jims place  After my build is done, I plan on taking a long vacation/camping trip across multiple states with my trusty MJ.

Sign me up. The garage calendar is about to expire. Can you add things on certain dates? Like when the last XJ left the factory or Pete's birthday? The Jeep calender I have has a lot of cool information about historic Jeep days. Maybe go through the registry and state when a trucks birthday is? Info about each specific rig for the month would be sweet as well  If you need any help feel free to ask me. I am pretty good in all of the Adobe programs.

I suggest you stay out of the high country if idiotic tourists bother you. I lived in the Vail/Avon area for a year. It was one of my childhood dreams... Never again! Having wheeled most of the state, my favorite location is the San Juans, followed by the Gunison area and Steamboat.

That truck looks good! Be sure to start up a build thread in the projects section of the forum.

My donor XJ has the exhaust cut right past the cat. At idle it is not real loud, just a steady 'brrr' drone. In the test drives I made around the farm grounds, the constant drone gave me a headache. Not to mention it sounds like a meth-head trying to drink water and yell at the same time when tached up. :ack: I will note that the pipe diameter is much larger than the factory MJ pipe. A larger pipe will generally give the exhaust note a deeper sound as well.

LOOKS GOOD! Thanks December 12 Update: Progress has been really slow and the cold weather has set in. However, I managed to make some forward progress on the truck. The floors had me really bogged down. (I don't do metal work) They need replaced and I did not want to do a patch job around the frame rail, so I spent a fair amount of time locating, drilling and popping the spot welds along the upper frame support. This was done in preparation for the sand blaster, so the inside frame rails can be treated with POR15. It took a long time, but they came off straight with minimal deformation: To my delight, the inner frame is very solid with only minimal surface rust along the passenger side: I also removed the front sheet metal, doors, and dash from the MJ (again). After spending a few hours with the XJs steering column sub frame, I think I have come up with a solution to use the factory MJ parking brake pedal assembly with relocated release. (similar to what Shelbyluv did) I will be using a bench seat so the typical XJ parking brake handle won't work for my application. I will also be using the XJ steering column brace that is spot welded to the cowl, for proper fit and structure. Here you can see the TCU (trans control unit) bracket and markings on the firewall where it will need to be mounted: After a lot of careful measuring and comparing, it seem the HO firewall needs fewer modifications to it than the Renix era firewalls need when doing this swap. Two holes need welded shut, two need modified (steering shaft/engine harness grommet), and one needs added (above the blower motor). Also got the AC/Heater box pulled from the XJ along with the engine harness and other under hood components. Hopefully I can get the final fitment of the dash done in a few weeks so I won't have to drill any more holes in the firewall after the body shop gets it. :wavey:

Their prices are generally higher than the small 4x4 shops and their shipping costs are astronomical. Other than that I have had good luck the few occasions I ordered through them.

I've had this one for a few years on my TJ. Pretty fast and good control. I have had a couple HEAVY loads and it did great. Minimal amp draw works well with the factory charging system and Die Hard Platinum Battery. Note, I did NOT buy from q-tec ;) A buddy of mine has the XRC and loves it. He rarely uses it, but it always spools in.

Had that size AT on the old YJ. Good tire with decent bite when aired down. My folks have the AT in a 30x9.5 on their XJ. Almost 60K miles on the tires and they are just now really showing signs of wear, yet still good tread depth. Keep them rotated every 3-5K miles and they will last for ever. They really don't make noise on the road and have good wet traction and excellent snow traction. In heavy rain they get slippery due to the tread design not letting water quickly escape. I have no experience with the MTs.

Me either... well, there was 6 months I owned a Miata. My first was this beauty: Image Not Found Image Not Found Salvage Title, 4.2L, Nuttered, 2.5" Skyjacker, Bestop Top, Bestop Seats, Bestop Console. Her name was Christine.

Doesn't mean it sold. I saw my MJ on CL the first day it was posted. I looked for a day and did a screenshot to capture it. Next night tried to view it and it was no longer posted. E-mailed the guy (from the screenshot) and he said I was the first person to contact him... I bought the truck a week later.

Yes... there was an OEM bed mat.
87Warrior replied to mkbruin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My truck came with one that had the AMC logo in the middle. My guess is it came from an 86 long bed, believed to be a factory thing. -
You should make templates of those bumper brackets. Not sure I have ever seen and STRAIGHT set before. That is a thing of beauty!

The club is great  It has the most Comanche specific information on the web. Whenever I go into an auto parts store, I hand them part numbers and don't give them a chance to screw up by looking up the parts. Jeeps are fun. They are a lifetime of learning.

Where is the sig update?!?!?! Congrats on the purchase :clapping: I have not yet started to appreciate the ZJ. Not sure why, I just don't find them that attractive :hmm:
