  1. is there or is there not coolant coming out from between the head and the block? also, a headgasket can fail in such a manner that the coolant does not mix with the oil, but exhaust gases are pumped into the cooling system superheating it in a manner of minutes, that's how my brother's 93 4.0 failed. the closed system bottle that came factory is pure junk, i still run a closed system and it works great, but my MOPAR bottle and cap lasted ~1 year before they needed replacement again. i swapped to a different pressure bottle and its awesome now.
  2. see if you can swap the coil out with someone, not hard to do, had a ZJ whip my arse the other week over a coil because it would spark out the coil wire but it wasn't enough to jump the gaps in the dist. or the plugs. :waving:
  3. that actually seems pretty cheap, costs 50 to hook and 2 a mile round here...
  4. try the first sticky ever put on the forum... "what to do when your hood release breaks" :D  :D haha pete did a whole write up on how to get in.
  5. you shouldn't ever have to do it unless you have a TJ or a REALLY tall XJ and it makes all that important stuff that much closer to rocks and danger.
  6. you can also replace with studs so that you can slide the tranny up on them. get the socket in place and drive it home with a hammer
  7. when you say overheat, what temperature does it get up to if left alone, will it get hot enough to pop the cap and boil over? is it running 240* or staying around 220? or does it just climb until you stop it? if the problem only comes at low speeds sounds like either water pump or fans is the problem, if she can consistently run 160 on the highway it almost sounds liek an airflow problem not waterflow problem, if your a/c is INOP, try removing the a/c condenser, drilling two holes, and relocating the radiator about an inch or 2 forwards, this will gain room for some bigger/better fans you wanted.
  8. no visual inspections, and i can run it a little cool if i have to to make up for it, she'll pass not worried about that part of things.
  9. just let the shop put a pump in it, that way when it doesn't change anything they have to eat the crank sensor? happens to me all the time! damn misdiagnosis!   but seriously, if he doesn't mind paying for it then let them put a pump in it and if it doesn't change anything they get to try again, it only pays the first time...
  10. were you saying the clutch grabs with the pedal halfway out, or you have to push the pedal halfway in before it disengages?
  11. is that 952,000 or 95,200?
  12. only in 11 counties, metro atl area i think maybe some in athens too? i'm confident she'll pass... i was able to screw up the timing bad enough and crank on my adj. map sensor and get it to pass in 07 with a hollow cat (she blew the pieces out at some point?) yeah, i looked up the belt routing on it on shopkey at work, thanks for the input, sounds like thats just what i'll do. to bad we can't run dual adjusters!! that'd screw someone up 20 years down the road :rotfl2:
  13. i walked by it  :( :( but not to sad, we were so freaking busy today, took a long weekend and they all came scrambling in today. $$$$ woohoo. maybe this week will be better than last week. :ack:
  14. thats the belt i was thinking i'd need, i had one off a OBD1 jeep that doesn't fit BARELY and i think it might be the same as a 99+ belt, i'll have to find out about that. how close is the belt to hitting on the mount for that idler? it looked REAL close is why i hadn't done what you described yet... i was hoping to use the 99 belt with the extra idler running the routing you posted, and if not i was going to buy one slightly longer and run that... but if yours is working fine set-up like i wanted to then i'll just do that! as for the EGR the motor was redesigned and EGR dropped in 91 with the OBD1 system... since the dropping of EGR was in the timing and valving (if i understand correctly) the motor in my truck should be designed to work well without EGR and i'm hoping to pass SMOG inspection with the new cat
  15. why can't you pull the speed-o gear out of the transfercase put the cable in a drill and spin it until it hits 0 again and wind it up to 85000?
  16. my 90 volvo, because the radio is in it, the a/c and heater both work, and it gets 8mpg more than the mj. and this way i can fix up the truck!
  17. Where would it "hook up" at? i ran it for over an hour today and didn't notice anything wrong. it will default to full rich, and will run... could possibly overheat your catylitic converter but no other damage can be caused really, poor fuel mileage too. follow the exhaust from the engine there ought to be a sensor just above the joint in the exhaust, it will have a pigtail with a plug on it that will join to your mystery plug. the other one is half of a broken knock sensor which will be located on the drivers side of the block up a few inches from the pan. somewhere between #2 and #4 cylinders
  18. if you can find it elsewhere and need one bad i'd say get it, i got a bendix piece from autozone years ago i think i've put 25-30k on it since then, it may not go 175 like the original one did but it works fine now.
  19. well, i got it running thursday afternoon, it idles a little high but i need to finish it up before any diagnosis can be made. still left to do, -install intermediate pipe -weld in new cat/flowmaster 50 -measure for and buy a serpentine belt -re-torque all bolts/check all connections but it runs!!!
  20. this is where they are all going, thats one of the three pull-a-part locations near here. they have a HUGE section of JUST cash for clunkers vehicles.
  21. sexy truck man!
  22. what parts of the HO injection are you wanting? i'm working on an intake adaptation right now, only a couple hours of work away from being finished. the truck has a 97 motor with a 00 intake and HO throttle body. if all you're wanting is the higher flow intake/exhaust you could do that with a head swap/intake and some minor wiring/fuel lines
  23. unplug the idle air control and see if it changes anything, try using http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Engine/Basic_Sensors_Diagnostics.htm to help check all your sensors how recent is the tune up?
  24. that setup is from a later model 4.0L, the pump attaches differently to a renix.
