Can Spell Comanche

Can Spell Comanche (2/11)

  1. blown head gasket, cracked head, and 275,000 miles. The one I can get only has 130,000 miles on it.
  2. Hey Guys, I have the opportunity to get a wrecked 2000 Cherokee for cheap and was wondering if it would be easier to just swap the engine and electronics into my 1990 Comanche or just use the block. Thanks
  3. No problems any more. I talked the guy into giving me everything for the motor. Which includes a complete motor, accessories, the ECM, and wiring harness. I know it was from a cherokee with an automatic tranny. but i have an AX-15 in my comanche. I don't think there will be any problems with that but I could be wrong.
  4. It seized up on me. It had 313,000 miles on it.
  5. I am planning on getting a 91 4.0 HO motor to replace my blown renix injected 4.0. My question is will the throttle body work with the newer intake of the 91 or will I have to find one to put on it? Also I am assuming that my old alternator and power steering pump will be a direct swap?
  6. Well the head cracked when I overheated and the motor itself is pushing 230,000 miles, so I figured it would be easier just to do a swap. There are plenty of donor vehicles around where I live so finding a nicer used one wouldn't be hard to find. I am just a poor college student at the moment and don't really have the money or time at the moment.
  7. Hey all. I have been hanging around here for about a year now and finally decided to start a build thread. I don't have pictures at the moment but should be getting them soon. I have had the Comanche for about a year and a half. I had it running when I had it until about a year ago when I decided that it would be fun to overheat having a little too much fun in the mud. It has been sitting in my garage for a year. The plan: Newer 4.0 4"-6" lift Update interior Fix any rust issues Basically make it into a daily driver that I can be proud of. Pics up soon.
  8. Thanks for all the suggestions. I am just going to put the used head on that I have from another 4.0 and see how that goes.
  9. I do have the means of getting new head for free from another 4.0 that had only 120,000 miles on it when the motor was pulled. It ran fine just the guy was rebuilding the motor for some reason. That said ... if you blew a gasket and the resultant overheating cracked the head, unless you got enough coolant into the oil to score the bearings your short block should still be good. Why go through all the work of swapping an entire engine if you can just bolt a head onto it and drive it? I over revved the engine to the point where it overheated. My transfer case decided that it didn't want to go into 4 wheel drive. That was the cause of the overheating and blown head gasket.
  10. I was stuck in a mud hole that I shouldn't have been in the first place. My cousin is a mechanic and I had him pressure test it and he said that I definitely blew my head gasket. So I removed the head and had him take a look at it. He said that it was definitely cracked. Most likely I am going to do an engine swap. The only reason I asked about the used head was because I can get one for 100 bucks from one of my dad's buddies.
  11. I had a little too much fun in a mud hole with my comanche and cracked my head. My dad (who thinks he knows everything about vehicles) was afraid that if I put a new head on the block that the lower end of the engine might blow out from the new pressure of the head. I was wondering if it would be more advantageous for me to just find a used motor in to put into it, find a used head, or just get a new head. I am a poor college student and money is very abundant right now. Any suggestions will help in my decision. Thanks for looking.
  12. Yea that is what I was going to do. I am just going to change the water pump just because it will already be taken apart anyway. Just so I know that that isn't the problem either.
  13. It seeps out in three different spots and they seem like pretty big gaps in the gasket. I already have the gasket kit and the new head bolts, so I am going to replace them along with the water pump and see if that fixes anything. I just don't want to go buy a new radiator if that isn't the problem.
  14. there is anti-freeze coming from where the block and the head meet. where did you get your new pressure bottle from?
  15. so are you saying that my bottle is defective or the radiator?
