i've got a 102" whip mounted to the bumper on the drivers side, secured with a metal support that is bolted under the tail-gate latch and has a plastic/rubber bushing in it to keep it from grounding the antenna. this keeps it from hitting the bed, and its also a LOT more stable around town and in the trees than my buddy's whips are. the securing strap hasn't had any noticeable effects on range or anything, i can still hear/talk great. you can kinda see it in this picture.

Tansmission and Transfercase question.
Oizarod115 replied to k.johnson135's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
yeah i suppose, the AMC and the J made no difference. there ARE differences in the 231s based on different years and other things like that... but the AMC and the J stamping on the tag has nothing to do with that, it was purely year splits and other slight changes they are all for the most part the same. -
made sure the doors were locked... :(

i had thought about doing under-rail LED lighting on my truck after finding the factory cargo lamp switch in the junkyard but the light itself was kaput. i'll take a look if it's really nice i might send it your way... you'd do better things with it than i will. great job man. :clapping:

use a heavy vehicle, (or a cherokee/comanche with a heavy friend on the hood) and drive up on the tire, rocking back and forth around the edge of the rim. any big fords or vehicle heavier than a jeep will pop the bead QUICK. my truck needs a heavy person on that corner to help pop it. then use 2 prybars and get to it. 2 people can do a set in an hour. use lots of lube!

Oizarod115 replied to 88mjmanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
bleeding it won't change the noise if it's doing it when the clutch is fully released. -

Pulling an Engine 1st time?
Oizarod115 replied to XXLMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if you're going to remove the engine-transmission all in one piece the key to doing it easily is removing the transfer case from the transmission on the 4.0. this helps with the balance because thats 80lbs from the rear gone. only 6 nuts and usually can be done with a wrench EASILY from underneath. -
good deal, we had to do that for a guy with a 90 YJ a couple weeks back cause his was busted out/not sealing. make sure to get a gasket (i would think it comes with one) but don't try to just RTV it down, seen that trick tried... it doesn't work. 8)

the dealer next to our shop says any truck that moves is worth 4K$ in his book, add A/C and 4x4 and anything else, you're paying 6K for some REALLLLLY junk-poop cars they drudge up. (i've had to fix their crap when they decide they want to actually pay for it) so yes, i think MOST used car dealers are smoking crack... and so are their customers.

clunking sound near front end
Oizarod115 replied to jmderyke's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
think he was referring to being able to move the tie-rod by hand twisting it-wise... which yes, you should be able to twist it... you should NOT be able to move it back and forth or move the tires independently of it. -
i've got cherokee wheeling great aunt/uncle that live in anchorage, we visited them in 02ish i think, best trip i've ever been on by far. (not many to chose from but i'd go back in a minute)

you can replace the plastic valve cover for cheap online, and chances are it probably needs one anyways, they tend to break out around the bolt holes. only thing is you'll have to wait for shipping on it.
-
If they're available i would be suprised if they cost over 5$ ea. i would expect them to be in the 2-3$ range. and anyone with a brain and a Dorman catalog could probably get you the same exact stud you need from a parts store.

I'm pretty sure it's the right stuff, maybe someone will back me up, but the intake didn't change from 99 to the end of them so that'll be the same, the wrangler will have different accessories yeah, but your stuff should bolt to it still
-
that should be a direct fit piece. nothing major changed between those years in the basic engine/head

clutch sound ????????????
Oizarod115 replied to 88mjmanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if it quit making noise and seems to work properly then just ride man. can't diagnose something that's not broken  be glad to help if it starts makin it again or the clutch has weird engagement or anything like that.
