87 Comanche Pioneer "Little Chief"

This one along with the roll bar came from the dealership that way. It was a package that they put on it. It has all the chrome markings as well. You could probably find a bar like this at any after market 4 Wheel Drive parts place. You would probably have to get it chromed though. Good luck and let me know if you find anything. I will keep an eye out for anything. -

The exhaust is just single into a 50 series Flowmaster and dual out the back. I made sure that it was tucked up in there so that the pipes would not get crushed or damaged. The Flowmaster really lets it breathe and sounds very nice! -

Ok, then why the AMC or J? Is that just who NP made them for? :hmm: -

Please confirm what you have for a drive train. The XJ was not offered from the factory with a V6 after 1986. Where did you get this tranny from, and are you certain it's from a 91 XJ? Eagle, I have the 4.0 with the Man. Trans. I know that the tranny and tc are from a 91 XJ. I am probably remembering wrong about the V6. It may have been a 4.0 :hmm: If I remember right, it just didn't look the same as the inline 6. I had the tranny and tc given to me and I briefly saw what they came out of. I have had them about three years now, it is hard to remember back. :hmm: Could it have been a 4 cyl.? So, now that we can rule out the V6, if it was a 4 cyl. or a 4.0 from a 91 will it bolt up to my 87 4.0? Would there be anything different with electronics etc.? Thanks for the reply. -

:agree: To my understanding the only difference between the two is that one is made by American Motors Corp.(AMC) up to a certain year and the (J) is made by Jeep. I know that the AMC that is in my 87 MJ is "not" full time. The 231-J that I have is out of a 91 XJ. -

Can I just pull some better gears out of an XJ and slap them into mine? Should I just look around for an XJ with 44 from a junk yard? Do they cost an arm and a leg? What would I get the 8.25 or the 8.8 from? Which one is better? Thanks -
I have a automatic transmission out of a 91 XJ 4x4 with a V6. Will that bolt up to my 87 MJ with a 4.0 4X4? I also have the transfer case out of that which is a 231 J. The transfercase in my MJ is a 231 AMC. What is the difference, if any? Is it just the maker? I would also like to know if anyone knows what are a set of good gears that will fit in a Dana 30/35? Where or what can I get them out of? I have 3.08 in there now with 31's. Thanks.

What is a good gear to put in a dana 30, 35? I am running 31's right now. I don't plan on going any bigger than that for awhile. Where would I find those gears? Can I pull them out of something else? :USAflag: Also, I am new to the lingo, what is the XJ and MJ thing? Is it that the XJ is Cherokee and MJ is the Comanche? Are all cherokees XJ's and Comanche MJ? :dunce: :help:  -

I can get them on here. I will take some of the front and rear and post them. I might have one on the MJ Projects under "87 Comanche Pioneer "little Chief". I will get those on there though. Why do you ask? -

That is funny! I didn't even notice that! :hmm: Must have been a typo! I have a 2.5" right now, but it was not done right! :wall: I hardly ever use fifth gear either. I would have to be on a straight flat highway. I have been really looking at the different 3" lifts that are out there. It is nice to know what other people are using and what they like. It makes it easier when you start to see what is popular and what other views are of the different types of lifts available. Thank you for the info   -

When my father in law owned it he had painted it. I haven't decided if I am going to repaint it or just remove it. I am going to send all the chrome out to have it redone. There are is some surface rust on the chrome. I like that all that stuff came as a package from the dealer! I am going to keep it on there. It's different. I haven't seen any like that, atleast around where I live. Thanks for looking! -

Thank you Eagle. I must have misunderstood you. What I am looking for is advice on what is good. Some say a 4.5". Some say 5". Some say 3". I just want it to be functional and not extreme right now. I figured that a 5" would be a good lift. I am not real savey with these lifts yet. Can you give some advice as to what a good highth is? I am not doing any extreme crawling or wheeling just hunting and some trails is what I would like to do. I don't want to lose the handling on the road either. -

Nothing big just a 10". Just something that was cheap to have some good tunes. I will change it out later on in the project and make something custom for it. I have a few Ideas floating around. -

Thank you Eagle. Nothing on this is because it looks cool. I am all about function. I figure that if I go with the 5" it will allow me to do more and take it more places than I can now. I know that with a 6" I have to start welding and modifying. I am looking for a bolt on for now. I am looking for something that I can keep on there for awhile and use it for what I want to do. The 2.5" lift that I have on there now is not very functional for where I would like to go and how I want to use it. You can see where I am at on the Mj projects under 87 Comanche Pioneer "Little Chief". What is it that you think is functional? I am looking to have my question answered from people who are experienced and would know what is a good lift without spending alot of money for now.
