Non-CAD D30 question
dasbulliwagen replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have an 86 Waggy parts vehicle with the NP228/229 and it is a non cad axle. I haven't confirmed the gear ratio yet on it but I mostly grabbed the thing for its axles. -
Theses Durangos are highly underrated. They are one of if not the best looking SUV of its type on the road. I wouldn't mind having one myself, but I think I might have the wife convinced into getting a new Grand Cherokee soon, so ive got that going for me.

best carburetor on the 87 2.5l
dasbulliwagen replied to ComancheCrusher9800's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My 87 used to stumble as well, until I changed the O2 sensor. been fine ever since. And, This is just my opinion, but Ive seen kids like you think that a carb is the solution to every fuel injection problem. That just isnt the case and often causes more problems than it solves, especially if you don't know what youre doing. You need to diag your TBI issue correctly and like was said, use quality parts. I understand youre 16 and can't afford much, butI still think youre going about this all wrong. My 2 cents. -
I swapped an 86 5 speed into my 87. The original slave has a plastic cone on the end of the shaft. I installed the new slave without the cone thinking the new version didnt need it. It would barely shift, like it wasnt pushing the clutch in far enough, which was the case because I didnt transfer the plastic cone that goes on the end of the slave to lengthen it about an inch and to push the arm in far enough and provide a non metal to metal contact between the slave and the clutch arm. Not sure if this is the case with you, but thought Id share on the chance that it is.

What axles would it have?
dasbulliwagen replied to 87MJTIM's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In some of the grands that had the full time transfer case option, they also had limited slip axles. Would this be the case for the Comanche as well, or was that not the case back then? -
There will be NO V8 offered in the JL. We will get an all new turbo 4 cylinder with near 300 HP, the Pentastar V6, also near 300 HP, and theres talk of a diesel as well. I don't see them putting in the 3.0 V6 thats in the Ram and WKII. My guess is another 4 cyl diesel, ala KJ.

I hope for the gladiator grille too to differentiate it from the Wrangler. Though with the huge popularity of the Wrangler they might not want to stray too far from a known winner.

Front end 87' sportruck
dasbulliwagen replied to Kyleinreallife's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For complete bolt in, youd want an original MJ rear 44, and then find a TJ Wrangler front 44 from a TJ Rubicon. Otherwise youll be doing some welding and fab to make other stuff work. Which isnt a big deal for some, but I don't know your situation. -
Went through a soft cloth car wash recently and it ripped off my driver side roof drip rail stainless trim. The spring steel clips that hold it on are rusted away and won't hold anymore. Does anyone know of a supplier for these or have a part number? Thanks

Craftsman was recently bought from Sears by Stanley. Just FYI. And there are several grades of Craftsman wratchets. The nicer ones are obviously more expensive.

I have a bunch of Jeep JK takeoff parts in a stuffed storage closet. I don't own a JK.

86 2.5L 4x4 transmission options?
dasbulliwagen replied to mdwatson's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There are shift kits available to update and upgrade the A904 that you have. It won't help with your highway rpms but nothing will other than overdrive or taller tires. Here is a link to tons of info on the trans and the mods for it. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/torqueflite-tom-hand.html -
Need some wisdom for my rig
dasbulliwagen replied to SMPLTN's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
JK shocks are not bolt on, but only take a little modification to make them work. like pressing out the metal sleeve on the rears, or installing a lower bar pin on the front in place of the metal sleeve. No big deal. Some say the red Rubicon ones are too stiff. I have the black ones on mine and like them. Ride is good considering its an old truck. -
Transmission Identification

Just FYI... 1986 MJ auto was the 3 speed Chrysler A904 with an NP207 or NP228. Also, again, extremely rare. -
Need some wisdom for my rig
dasbulliwagen replied to SMPLTN's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree with most of what has been said. Mine too is a 2.5 AX5 4:10 combo, but for a more modern look, Ive added a set of JK takeoff wheels and tires with hub centric adapters. They are right at 32" and at the outermost border of how big youd want to go without re gearing. With a 2" puck and shackles, youd be just about perfect. I have no real lift and have minor rubbing during some turns. A little lift like that would make it good. I agree with the WJ control arms as well. Theres a writeup somewhere on doing the uppers as well as the lowers. A little craigslist shopping could snag you some JK takeoff shocks as well. I have them front and rear of my truck. It only took minor mods to make them work, and I like the ride. Other mods can be done a little at a time, Like a ZJ steering box ( fewer turns lock to lock), or ZJ V8 front sway bar (thicker than stock) and ZJ tie rod (solid, instead of hollow). All bolt on mods and in budget if bought used. Good luck and keep us updated. -
Renix aftermarket header
dasbulliwagen replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not sure the ports are different between Renix and HO on the 2.5. They sell an aftermarket replacement exhaust manifold that works with or without EGR. It comes with a block off for the egr tube if being used with HO. I don't think the 2.5 got the full re do that the 4.0 did when they switched over the injection system. I purchased an aFe header for my 2.5. It is not offered with the EGR port which is fine because I too am doing away with it. Ive yet to install the header but it is nice quality. Let us know what you end up doing. -
1986 Radio Wiring Adapter
dasbulliwagen replied to Garvin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know this is six years old, but my factory radio finally gave up. I have bought a new Sony head unit but don't want to cut out the factory connector because I may have the original AMC unit rebuilt. Does anyone know a part number for the correct adapters from Scosch or Metra so I don't have to tear up my harness? -
If you find a clean donor Cherokee you'll have all the wiring and PCM and mounts you need to do the install. And its all bolt in. No need to fab any parts or buy expensive adapters. I myself wouldn't even bother with a stroker. A good reliable fresh 4.0 is all you need to do what you want to do. Do gears in the axles ands you'll have all the oompf you need.

SJ rated diesel 15w40. It has the zinc content our engines need to prevent cam wear.

Another new member taking the plunge! PLUNGE TAKEN!!!
dasbulliwagen replied to NC Tom's topic in The Pub
So, do you think a 4wd swap is easier/more affordable than an engine swap? Asheboro, huh. I graduated from RCC, then RTC, in 87! I graduated RCC in '06 (went back to school as an adult) I'm now teaching Automotive systems night classes 2 night a week. Lots of good info here. Keep us updated. -
Found one of these on the answering machine the other day. In my house youre lucky if we answer calls we know let alone ones we don't.
