  1. Sounds awesome. Post your VIN here and I can get you an actual build date. Or theres a way to do it through Chryslers website too. I'm a dealer tech and have access myself. We love pics too. Lets see it! I'm originally from southern Michigan too, as is Pete. Welcome to the club.
  2. www.4bangerjp.com will have more info, though its a little difficult to become a member there, have to go through forum owners facebook page and message him there for access. As far as I know, there werent near as many updates to the 2.5 as there were for the 4.0. Youll see crank snout length differences depending upon the drive system used, and obviously the differences between the carbed version, the renix versions, and the Chrysler version of engine management.
  3. After reading through all this, I still think an LS swap with matching trans would be the easiest swap with the least headaches for what youre trying to accomplish. And I hate LS swaps, but for the cost and least amount of fab for what youll get out of it, I think it would be your best bet. The more complex the fab and tuning is on a modified 4.0 the less likely youll actually finish the job and have fun with it. If it were my project doing what you want to do with it, I think the LS would be the best choice. don't get me wrong, I love the 4.0 and 2.5 AMC engines and I have plans to modify one myself, but having experienced project car issues over the years, and loosing interest in them over time due to compexity and money issues, I think keeping it simple would be your best bet, and the LS is a relatively simple swap cpmpared to building and tuning a turbo setup from scratch. MY 2 Cents.
  4. Maybe someday, when I do the swap. I know its been covered that we can swap steering wheels from GM Saginaw columns, I just wondered if a whole column had been swapped as well. I know at least the upper parts are the same, never seen if the same below or not.
  5. Would a Saginaw column from an '80's '90's GM product with tilt and column shift swap in easily or are they different lengths? Might be easier to find one of those. There is one in the my '94 Camaro donor car. Gm used those things forever.
  6. As a dealer tech, I'm seeing more and more issues with the eco diesels as they get up in milage. I have 2 in my bays right now (Ram 1500's). Its all to do with the emissions systems and glow plugs. The only other issues Ive seen (twice) is guys filling them up with gasoline. I thought it would be cool to have one for myself at some point, but knowing what I know now, I wouldnt have one.
  7. There are threads here and elsewhere for budget lifts. Look in the DIY section and search and youll find what youre looking for. Id help you with a link but I'm at work. I'm sure others will chime in as well. The rear doesnt take much to lift six inches just by going spring over axle with weld on perches and a longer brake line. Original rear shocks can be used if the original spring plates are used upside down. That much lift is a little too much for many people. If you do that, youd have to do the same in the front. Some 5.5-6 inch springs in the front, adjustable control arms, and an adjustable trac bar, again with longer brake lines, and longer shocks. All can be had used with a little patience on local forums and facebook marketplace. I wish you luck and look forward to seeing what you do.
  8. With the KJ lower ball joint recall, they won't do an alignment. Its not called for in the recall procedure. Ive done a hundred of them, never did an alignment because they don't pay us to do it.
  9. 1986 2.5 Longbed. DO NOT DRIVE IT IN THE WINTER IN CHICAGO!!!! Keep it nice and rust free. If you drive it in the salt every year, youll just end up watching it disintegrate in front of your eyes. Nice truck though! Enjoy!
  10. Though, now that I think of it, the 207 wasnt ever offered in a shortbed. The only reason I have one in mine is because it was swapped from an 86. In 87 I think they went with the 231 only. Not sure how I got a driveshaft that fit to begin with. I ordered it from a junkyard online, and it sat for a few years before I could do the swap to 4wd. Ill measure it anyways, its probably one that was originally in a 231.
  11. Mine is NP207, Not sure if that will make a difference. Let me know if you want a measurement.
  12. I have one too. Youll be fine with it as long as you keep your expectations low, and your tires not too big. My 2.5 has over 200,000 on a Jasper rebuild done by the original owner. Its about the only thing on my truck that hasnt been touched other than maintinance in the 10-11 years Ive had it. I did eliminate the engine driven fan and installed an electric one, and did a "cold" air intake, as well as gutting and sleeving the cat and a flowmaster 50 series muffler.
  13. I'm a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealer tech. Those vans are decent if cared for properly. The 3.6 is almost 300 HP, so its no slouch, and the 6 speed trans is OK compared to other Chrysler trannies. They hold their own long term and are generally easy to maintain. I don't think youll regret the purchase.
  14. I have an aFe header to put on mine at some point, I wouldnt expect tailpipe sound to change much if any.
  15. I have not done the EGR delete. I havent had to yet, but when I do a rebuild it will be going away.
  16. I like a loud exhaust, but for daily use, it just gets annoying. This coming from a guy who used to run open megaphone header exhaust on air cooled VW's. I have a Flowmaster 50 series on my 2.5 with a gutted and sleeved cat. Almost quiet idle, but a nice growl under load. Loud enough to notice, but not loud enough to annoy.
  17. I used this to do a bunch of work on my 87, but I also found a few things that were different. The 87 had a few things that were more like the 86's. Kind of a cross over year I guess.
  18. I went through the soft cloth car wash at the dealership a while back and it ripped off my left side drip rail trim. The trim is pretty much ok, but the retainer clips are rusted and won't clip back on. Does anyone have a source for these or a part number that can be searched. I haven't tried bothering our dealership parts guy with it yet as he is by himself in the parts department and is pretty busy. Thanks for the help!
  19. I did a set of the black ones several years ago. They ride great and dampen well. I recommend this swap. I didn't have a set of Rubi shocks at the time otherwise I would have done them instead just for coolness factor, but I have no complaints with the black ones.
  20. There are e few companies that will do conversions like this to any vehicle you want them to. I'm not sure its been done to a Comanche, but I see no reason why it can't be, or why it wouldnt be good to do.

    Hello

Welcome back! You still playing with the Liberty's?
  22. I put a Flowmaster 50 series on my 2.5. Gutted and sleeved cat. It is almost quiet at idle, with a nice growl under load. No drone at highway speeds. It was perfect for my needs and wants.
  23. I agree, the rear JK shocks might be too short. I'm on 2wd 4 leaf 350,000 mile rear springs with a longer shackle, and the shock is the limiting factor for downtravel. If youre getting new springs and longer shackles, they probably will be too short in the rear.
  24. It is the pivot point for the throttle valve (blade, Butterfly). The shaft runs front one side to the other. On one side the throttle arm is attached which is then pulled by your throttle cable running from the accelerator pedal. The pivot point can wear out over time cause excessive play and thus a vacuum leak, causing too much air in at idle, and a possible lean condition which could cause a stall at idle if too much.
