it needs it's own listing in the DIY catalog so I can find it. I'll go do that now...

If you haven't noticed yet, we now have a super-duper awesome master catalog thread at the top of the DIY forum. :clapping: Inside are links to all the threads in a nice easy to scroll list. It's still a work in progress, but coming along nicely. huge thanks to neohic, minuit and all the mods that helped put that together. http://comancheclub.com/topic/48710-diy-projects-writeups-master-search-index/ the next phase relies on you guys/gals. In the various threads there are (and will inevitably be more) missing pictures and broken links. As you find them, please take a moment to send a private message to the post owner to let him/her know. If you don't hear back within, say a week (some of those threads are pretty old), then let one of the Mods know about it so we can try and remedy the situation. Another item I'd love to have the members help with is to include some of the best Tech threads we have into the DIY catalog thread. These need to have more than just a couple good points in them mind you. I'm talking about threads that contain gobs of info about a particular subject. as you find one you think would work, please nominate it in this thread and we'll take it from there. Thanks! . :MJ 2: .

we went with the old-school new-school florescents (the new skinnier 4' bulbs) in the workshop. very pleased thus far. admittedly this was a few years ago before affordable LEDs came into play.

HelllCreek and General Spring make stock replacements.

yeah, people tend to ignore resurrected threads so a fresh one will usually score more views and more chances to get the answers you need.

reverse light / cooling fan electrical issue
Pete M replied to mikekaz1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
there is also a connector behind the drives side rear tire that is known for having problems. it was the reason my brake lights didn't work. :( -
colorado!! :D it's been said that having a job that makes you happy is important, I've found the important thing is to have a job that doesn't make you mad.

welcome to the addiction! once you get your hands on it, I would first run through Cruiser's tips: http://comancheclub.com/topic/48463-cruisers-mostly-renix-tips/ and before you go for h4s, do the harness upgrade (older MJs and XJs suffer from a huge voltage issue in the headlight harness) (I swear there was a writeup on here somewhere but I can't seem to locate it  )

the best stories come from something going wrong :D

Driveshaft grew after heavy rains!

what's the other end look like? -
then you should have 3.55 now and both the 8.8 and the 8.25 are available in that ratio. an option if you want to upgrade is finding either 3.73 or 4.10s. this would necessitate a change in the front too, but 3.73 are fairly common under ZJs/TJs and 4.10s are found under 2.5L/5speed XJs/MJs. I know 3.73 was common under Explorers. but not sure how easy it would be to find a 3.73 8.25 as a lot of those TJs and ZJs had dana 35s. and yes, the TJs and ZJs had low pinion fronts, but that won't matter at all in a mostly stock truck.

what years can donate a piston for a 96 4.0?
Pete M replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
looks as if the older ones are different. :( thanks though. no idea if they will still work well enough. I mean, how different can they be? a quick search on car-part shows a part number break between 96-99 and 99-01 injectors. the good news is that the injector was very common among chrysler vehicles so that'll make it easier. (maybe) -
I know I've asked before when it happened but cannot for the life of me find the thread. anywho, there's a slight chance I can get up to michigan for an extended weekend in december and figured I should start the hunt for a replacement just in case. I've got a feeling I'll need an injector too (the running hypothesis being that it was a lean condition that caused it), but that's a lot easier to grab from the local yards than a piston so I want to get the piston down here (in the no-snow zone) ahead of time.

bump for some good stories

my 88's buildup was therapy too. admittedly, first thing in the morning my motivation came from a couple dog noses shoved in my face, but after that nothing worked as well as wrenchin' to keep me going through the day :D sooooo many naps were taken under that truck :laughin:

what size tires?

if you like the truck, don't let it touch salt.

hit this list first: http://comancheclub.com/topic/48463-cruisers-mostly-renix-tips/

not the first time. won't be the last. the internet is a fickle place.
-
d'oh! I keep forgetting about the extra inch that an auto has over the manual.

what are your plans for the future of this truck? daily driver? offroader? (please don't say winter transport) as stated above, complete 4.0/auto XJ will give you a pair of 3.55 geared axles, t-case (and shifter) and a front driveshaft. you'll then need a 4wd AX-15 trans and a rear driveshaft. make sure the parts you need are in good shape before buying a donor rig. car-part.com might help with your junkyard searches.

adding blocks to a SUA will lower it. If it was me, I'd be looking at the HellCreek 3" leafs or metric ton leafs and put those on top of the SOA conversion.
