  1. wait, are you talking about putting the guts of the 91 into the 86? or the guts of the 86 into the 91?
  2. shouldn't matter. most guys aren't looking for a direct how-to but rather the inspiration and end results. :D
  3. those are vacuum lines you cut through. Just replace them if you want. But there are no measurable gains from keeping the CAD design. Jeep made a mistake when they installed it (they thought it would help with fuel economy, which it doesn't) and eventually did away with the system in the early 90s. It is not a locker of any kind, it just connects and disconnects the 2 pieces of the passenger side axle shaft. All Jeeps since the early 90s have a simple one-piece axle shaft in its place. There's a link to a way to bypass and fix the issue in the link in my signature.
  4. can someone put together a DIY thread for this install? :)
  5. the cps is a common random failure. if the ecu doesn't get a clean signal from the cps telling it where the engine is in its rotation, it won't fire the plugs. can be intermittent, sudden, and very frustrating. try wiggling the wires or cleaning the connector, and double check that the wires haven't cooked themselves on the exhaust.
  6. crankshaft position sensor (CPS) is a common fail point.
  7. directly to the pump's ground wire.

interesting. :hmm: my whole reality is thrown for a loop! well, maybe not, but still. seats without headrests are just stupid. :fs1:
  9. does the pump have ground? voltage is great and all, but it needs ground too. :D it usually gets its ground from behind the taillight and through the one or 2 connectors between that ground and the pump. any failure will give a no-start. I ran a dedicated ground for the pump to the frame close by.

I think 88 and up had headrests.

I'm sooo jealous of that guy that swapped in a 60/40 bench from (I think) a dakota. it looked comfy as all get out. MJ benches are, well, basic.
  12. if I remember right, the 2.8 v6 MJs had a mechanical pump at the engine.
  13. no need to worry about that because the ax-5 won't bolt up
  14. yeah, if you overdo it, you could split the aluminum spacer. :(
  15. what is it that you have in the truck right now? if the 3.4L engine is complete, then it's not as bad as you might think.
  16. what about a listing in the DIY forum that has some basic info and then a link to your build thread? lots of great info just gets lost in the build threads because it's not all that searchable. :( "v8 swap" in the DIY forum would be so much easier to find (especially now that we have the index)
  17. tech Qs should indeed go in Tech. welcome to the addiction!
  18. perfection :D
  19. the harness connector right behind the drivers side rear tire is a known headache point. :(
  20. it's the little ones that make life worth living :D
  21. the bedliner should stick just fine to paint too. but read the specific instructions that your bedliner has. they are not all made of the same stuff.
  22. scroll down a bit. it's at the bottom of the first post.
  23. at least in that case I can see wanting to stop maybe :dunno: but if you bought one pair, was it really too much money to buy a second?
