samis are great rigs! Tim Hardy's 87 is still one of my favorite 4x4s of all time. :D but this one... :dunno:

I'm all for "dare to be different", but... seriously?
-
all good info. ended up going with one of the cheaper all-included ones rather than trying to piece it together (original owner too rather than a lease return). I figure it'll be faster to get him back up and running this way.

XJ roof rack rails on an MJ?

it has been done, but for the life of me I can't remember who did it. :( -
yes, that should a be part of it

they can have my win 7 when they pry it from my cold hands. :D ebay is chock full of ex-lease laptops. my pop doesn't need anything special. a simple dual core, 8g/500g, atomic powered laptop will do. :D
-
thanks. I figured it was more complicated than I had hoped. :( I do have an '07 office disk and was looking at buying a win7 from a reputable ebay seller that "resells" win7 + keys (can I just reuse the key from my dad's laptop?). my sata-to-usb cable is on the way. just seems like a good thing to have around! price for an empty 'top was about $55, a similar loaded one $130-150 but it's ebay so those might change in the coming days

the mechanicals of a 'puter are nothing new to me, but those dang 1s and 0s are made from magic and pixie dust. so if I take a harddrive from a toshiba laptop and stick it into an Acer laptop, will the windows7/office from the toshiba continue to work without any extra work from me? or will the Microsoft witchcraft give me a big thumbs down? My pop's laptop has died (from my diagnoses it's either a boot-up failure or a motherboard issue) and I'm looking at getting a used Acer like mine and they are much cheaper without an HD.

when all is up and running smoothly, there will likely be a perpetual donation button on the main page or the top of the page or something along those lines. that way when people don't see it and ask anyway I can just send them to the top of the screen. :D

What a simple concept.... I love it. The total cost is???? unknown. best guess is about 150 a year but it all depends on the data flow from hosting our own photos. I have enough funds to get this party started, but will never stop someone from donating to the cause. paypal ID is: comancheclub@hotmail.com

things are happening! stay tuned for your countdown to the down-time (I'm sure there will be some issues, there always are with this many 1s and 0s flying around) also, I just learned we should be getting https security. :D

cleaned the wire connector at the pump?
-
nope. should be doable. the keys are keeping the forum software that we can get for free and then keeping a handle on the photo use (hotlinking from this site eats into our monthly bites). as to splitting up the forums more, the philosophy I've used so far is the fewer the forums, the more eyes will see the questions. besides, there are 24 THOUSAND threads in tech. :ack: I'm not about to go through them all to split them up. oh, and the "popular threads' forum was just something I threw together for newcomers. threads that had a bunch of responses on topics like "share a photo of your truck" or "what are your other hobbies". something to browse that would have otherwise gotten lost or needed a sticky (and no one likes 30 stickies on the first page).

57 inches is the distance along the leafs. once arch is taken into account, the distance between the eyes will be much closer to the distance between the mounting holes. -
it looks like, all-in, to upgrade to a system that includes photo hosting and other goodies it'll be about $150 a year (most likely) and as much as $300 (all depends on the variables of the photo-hosting aspect). we get our own server and automatic backups for it too! :D more details coming...

I might be a bit off since I was being attacked by the entire 76th squadron of georgia mosquitoes, but I get 55" from mounting hole to mounting hole. -

http://comancheclub.com/topic/37727-how-to-post-pictures/ if you have a facebook account, that will work too. just don't use FB for anything you want to share long-term as FB purposely changes the pics' addresses now and again to avoid hosting duties.
