    that's it? 3 seals? you can do all of them yourself with basic tools. no matter what anyone says, you do not need to remove the trans to do the rear main seal on a 4.0. I'm sure youtube will have videos of all of them. and any 4.0 block from 87-01 can be made to work. but if the compression is good enough, there's no reason to change that out.

    hey, if you pull off the interior handle assembly, doe that give enough access to the rods?

    been there done that. :( had to remove the interior panel to get at the rods and manually actuate them. you could remove the drivers side in order to familiarize yourself with all the attachment points. :thumbsup: or pull out the seat to get more access. the good news is that if the mechanism is all gummed up it can be soaked in cleaner and reused.

    I've heard the hockey puck can work. myself, I welded extensions to the stock ones (though I had to angle them out a bit too in order the accommodate the ford perches)

    good to know! I've seen them on ebay occasionally but our are... ok.. for now at least so I never pulled the trigger. didn't think to check the year.

    from what I remember being told, tires of an unregistered, uninsured vehicle touching the street can be a big no-no in the legal world. we used uship.com to get my dad's z28 700 miles to his new home in GA. cost about the same money (600 if I remember right) as the whole debacle of towing my MJ on a uhaul trailer the same distance and I didn't have to risk my life to do it.

    took a few tries to get mine juuuust right. :( one-piece gasket is a must have. and yeah, any tiny flaw in the steel surfaces or the seal itself and it leaks. :fs1: there exists a double lip seal out there if your truck has a groove in the steel where the stock one rides.

    and new u-bolts :thumbsup: if I remember right, flange adapters can be found under some ford Aerostars.

    honestly, there are few reasons I would even keep your 4x4 drivetrain. better parts exist out there (better gearing/transmissions for starters). but I certainly wouldn't get rid of it yet. never know what you'll find in the used market. if you found a solid 2wd 4banger you could always just swap it all over. heck, you might even need that clean title (but you didn't hear that from me :D ).

    just more proof that Comanches are tough as nails :D but I'd count my blessings and call it a day with that one. makes my 90 look like a gem! :( if you do get a clean MJ, don't let it touch the winter.

    the frame is made of sheetmetal. double layered, but just sheet. nothing thick at all. :(
