  1. maybe some links to important threads: rules, diy list, our own version of a wiki MJ history page (in thread form), etc, so the front page isn't cluttered with a bunch of words.
  2. on this topic though, in my sig is a link to a writeup on adding in the letters.
  3. yes you can. you'll just be counting notches until you swap on the trans.
  4. facebook link to their page
  5. gotta go with a multi-faceted approach. chains, locks, fuel kill-switches, pull some spark plug wires, anti-theft lugnuts, alarms, insurance, etc. thieves suck. and if they want it, they will find a way. all we can hope for is to make it irritating enough to be not worth their time.
  6. what the title says. the software hiccups need to be addressed and so now would be the time to make any changes.
  7. every bad bearing I've had was evident when spinning the wheel by hand.
  8. that might be where Rob started doing the MJotM again. I'll let him know.
  9. I do it all the time with my nephews. they catch it every time too. dang kids are getting too big! I totally understand, Krusty. it's the kind of post that we need more of. have patience, it'll take off when more eyeballs see it. Tech gets all the attention. and trust, me, I'm as frustrated with some of the "advice" I see on fb as anyone. I correct what I can but I've pulled out of a lot of the XJ pages. just can't take it. over the years we've had our share of jerks too. they eventually go away. I once had a guy try to tell me he was allowed to swear all he wanted on CC because the internet = free speech. I don't remember him helping out with the bills at all. mostly what I'd like to see is something as simple as "show us your bumpers" and then people can easily share their bumpers. that would be a huge improvement. previously it was a hassle to upload pics to a 3rd party site and bring over the addy and such. facebook makes sharing sooooo easy (sometimes too easy). we just need to find the right combo of user-friendly and bringing in interesting MJ stuff. I'm working on a plan for a new subforum. if it works, it'll be awesome.
  10. I'd say that the problem is 2-fold: the prizes aren't huge-super-awesome like a free jeep (which would likely see people breaking into turkey farms ) but mostly the pub doesn't get the eyeballs the way it use to. we'll be working on that part in the future. step one was the ability to upload pics easily and directly to the site (almost done with that), step b is likely getting some volunteers to post daily or some such with interesting things from the internet. I hate to say it, but we need to compete with gd facebook. we are the niche store in town and walmart has moved in. we do things better, but facebook makes things... easier? I don't know. we need to keep doing what we do best, but need to accommodate the new reality too.
  11. Frankenstein's monster for sure
  12. oh, I know. they all start up there. it sucks big time. the rest looks pretty good though
  13. what I would do is pull the bed off, mechanical as best I can, prep properly then coat with POR-15. while you've got the bed off, you can attend to the rest of the nastiness that is undoubtedly on your frame or gas tank etc.
  14. I know there's no end to them, but here are a few I've been into lately: smarter every day https://www.youtube.com/user/destinws2/videos minute physics https://www.youtube.com/user/minutephysics/videos
  15. late model XJ with the curved blades seems to be popular.
  16. what about drop arm brackets?
  17. car-part.com is a junkyard search site where you can find all sorts of XJ stuff. be sure to search for various years, as the site lists purely by part number and those change over the years even though the part might be still usable.
  18. I'm here to announce that we have rescued 87% of all photobucket pics that were ever posted on the comancheclub. I'm guessing the rest were lost due to the original files or accounts being deleted. take that you greedy company execs! please let me know if you notice anything weird relating to photos and such. I still don't trust the ones and zeros all that much.
  19. I like it I just noticed your exhaust. from the side shot it looks like it would catch on things. maybe that's just an optical illusion though because CJs have so little sheetmetal behind the rear tire.
  20. did some digging and discovered a couple of tapedeck models in my boxes o' stuff. suddenly I'm super stoked for that bluetooth add-on. the cheapie single din I added to the Liberty is having fits and I want to be known as the guy rockin' a jeep radio that's three times as old as the Jeep it's in.
  21. happens to the best of us glad you found the issue before pulling all your hair out. I'm going to move this over to tech since it shares so much with the late model MJs
  22. honestly, it's so easy to steal a trailer, all you can do is make it look like it's not worth their time. If it were me, I'd combine a big chain through the rims with a big honkin' hitch protector.
