  1. are you restoring back to original specs? or is it more of a resto-mod where improvements can be made? I ask because there are far more comfortable seats out there to use. (a common one is the late 90s Dodge Dakota split bench)
  2. the old sag box steering design can't match the feel of a modern rack-n-pinion. keep that in mind as you go forward. having said that, have someone saw the steering wheel back and forth while you poke your head underneath and look/feel for slop in the joints, especially the track bar (both ends). I wouldn't touch the box until you're certain that everything else is nice and tight. one more vote for stock height and 30s. as good as they may look, your engine isn't going to like a big fat tire for daily driving. and welcome to the addiction!
  3. getting the AUX installed was all Jeremy (Minuit). He taps into the AM inputs or some such thing inside the radio. after that it was plug-n-play using the audio jacks and using the radio's pos/neg for the converter. I'd take a picture of the mess of wires, but I doubt it'd be helpful. (to get the radio to work in the Liberty I had to manually splice things together so it's quite the rat's nest back there) the good news is that these devices don't need to be right next to the radio. longer audio/power cables can be used and they can be stashed elsewhere in the dash. originally I was going to mount one of the USB ports exposed, but changed my mind since my phone is the only thing that's ever going to be there. So that cord is what pops out of the dash. Just realized that the bluetooth photo doesn't show that there's an AUX port on it for connecting to the radio.
  4. what do you have currently in the truck?
  5. Using the AUX input that our resident radio guru Minuit installed, I added a bluetooth dongle, USB chargers to power it and my phone, anti-noise loop, and now I have a modern radio (that's 15 years older than the 12 year old jeep it's in). this will be a bit more complicated for an MJ, since dash space is more at a premium, but I've got no doubt it's possible with some creativity. the bluetooth dongle I used: the 5v converter and interference noise reducer i used. normally I use the equalizer built in to spotify and then tweak individual songs with the radio's bass/treble slides. the sound is very good. good enough I'm looking into replacing the speakers next. rumor has it Minuit is working on some preamp outputs. does this mean some subwoofers are in my future?
  6. you're not the first to have trouble with this. no idea why I'm not getting any alerts. I'll send you a message with your new password.

    retro radio

I find myself just staring at that mess trying to figure out how they put it together in the first place.
  8. I had mine shortened. they just need to cut from the non-rubber end. buuuuuut, I'd wager a lot of shops are frightened off by the weirdness of the isolator design. plus the rubber is 30 years old so it might not be in the best shape. plus the cost of cutting/re-balancing could easily be over half as much as a brand new shaft (prices for the work vary wildly).
  9. it may not look any different, but that's no longer an audio cable you see, it's a charging cable. my old jeep radio is now full-on bluetooth! the bluetooth dongle I used: the 12v to 5v USB converter (one for the BT dongle and one for charging my phone) and interference noise reducer i used.
  10. yeah, I'm not sure what the contest was, but that pic definitely wins.
  11. yeah, that's pretty dang epic, yet still retains the key MJ lines that we love. congrats!
  12. the most wrapped my truck has ever been
  13. one of these? that would be rare indeed.
  14. indeed. sexy as hell!
  15. I know china is big on larger back seat areas in their cars.
  16. random mods: MAP disconnected (they all work better without it) upgraded intercooler hoses back seat windows held up with duct tape and coat hanger (a common fail with a macgyver fix ) abs and trac control died and I've got no plans for fixing them makes it a blast to drive in the winter! the benefits of a 4banger turbo diesel with a v6-sized gas tank. and yes, I've gotten close to it before. and my pride and joy, an early 90s Jeep radio updated with an AUX port by Minuit also in view are the single din adapter that gives me a place to stash my phone, the plug for AUX, and my bracket for the trailer brake controller. added a 20" light bar and factory tow hooks
  17. with some upcoming plans for the ol' girl I figured I should start a build thread and cover some of the earlier mods. Bought from the original owners in 07, she's done well to me for 190k miles now. specs as of January 2018: 2.8L turbo diesel 242 t-case (pretty much permanently put into awd mode unless I need low range) 235/70r16 tires some rust, not too bad. LED running/brake lights (still conventional blinkers) 20" light bar in front bumper planned mods: more stereo upgrades small lift 255/75/r16 tires TJ moab wheels front bumper/winch more lights first up are some boring pictures to show off her haulin' prowess. she's a mini-brute for pulling trailers around. I'd wager I've got 50k miles of trailer towing with her. maybe more. after driving MI-FL-MI in an extended weekend. the only shot I have of her on a trip while flat-towing the 88. bringing home the camper (MI to GA) draggin' the 88 from MI to GA (fyi: uhaul trailers suck and I later found out I could have paid someone to haul it for me for about the same money) and with my newest trailer
  18. I can't have them exposed like this because of the plethora of tools rolling around back there, but I think once Minuit gets into adding his pre-amp outputs, I may have to take a look at using the tailgate (which is essentially a giant box) for some woofers.
  19. dreaming of adding a second or third engine block heater right about now... with any luck she'll start friday morning and I can drive south. got some more radio upgrades waiting for install when I get there.
  20. I very much want one, I've just been waiting on the auto-resizing picture code to be up and running before taking any more steps.
  21. I didn't get to see much football, but was "fortunate" enough to catch Michigan completely collapse in the second half. if I remember right there were 3 interceptions, 2 fumbles and 23 unanswered points. daaaammmmnnn!
  22. one small benefit to the cold pushing south is that I should easily be able to bring a tub of snow to georgia for my nephews on friday.
  23. rounded stud? it's been a minute (or a decade) since I did it and I'm not sure what you mean.
