  1. I thought we had a writeup in the DIY but alas, I don't see it anywhere. If you want to clean it in place, any decent de-greaser should be fine. taking it out and soaking it would be better, but it depends on how much of a project you're looking for. (if memory serves me, I think the entire door needs to be disassembled to get at the latch? it's been many years since I had to do that)
  2. Krusty, where are the updates? did you get to the grand canyon?
  3. I really need to do a build thread on it some day...
  4. it was a work in progress. I've got LED version to replace them. is that less redneck?
  5. custom made and integrated into both the rollbar and bumper. the bolts aren't there yet int he pics, but it bolts to the bumper. the rollbar and tire carrier cost me about $200 and was done by a local fab guy using 2" DOM. (I built the frame mounts and cut the holes through the bed, he did all the bending and welding)
  6. I once used some thick sisal rope as "snow chains" once, but it was planned as such and never left the trails. worked pretty darn good too since my 2wd with 3" tires didn't get stuck once in the 8" snowfall. no pictures though. that was a loooong time ago in prehistoric times. you know, 1998.
  7. nice! what mods are coming first?
  8. I bought a giant borla muffler for my 88 looking for a cool rumble and it ended up being almost silent at idle. possibly too big of a muffler? makes a cool tune under throttle though.
  9. I'm a fan of building your own welding cart and welding table. it's a great practice project and you can make it to your specs. there are plenty of designs/templates out there in the interwebs.
  10. you should start yourself a build thread
  11. forgot the add in the cost. ~600 bucks from detroit to atlanta for a working, non-modified car.
  12. have patience. it will be fully opened once everyone is comfortable with what's going on.
  13. Jeeps don't need to be monotone I love it!
  14. well, the good news is that you should do all those things anyways, so nothing is lost if you later change your mind.
  15. oh, and I've restricted members from starting new threads for the time being, but anyone can reply to the threads that mods create. I wanted to give our new mods a chance to familiarize themselves with the software and iron out how they would like to handle things before jumping in with both feet.
  16. I'm not a fan of its overuse in slang either. I actually choose the name because of the original definition. reading through a big build is like reading about an epic journey with trials and tribulations, ups and downs, and (hopefully) a final triumphant victory at the end (sorta, since we know Jeeps are never really "finished"). But I expect there will be a combination of project threads, simpler tech threads, and questions about doing the hardcore things. More free-flow than just build threads. and all writeups will of course be cross referenced into the DIY checklist. to me "hardcore" is used on too many forums. "custom" doesn't quite fit. besides, there is more than one definition to go with Epic 3. heroic; majestic; impressively great plus I'm a fan of alliteration
  17. I totally agree, but I'm not the gate keeper. Dan and Nate have agreed to mod the new forum. it's more or less up to that which way it goes.
  18. you prose is decent, buuuuuut I think we'll go with the first one. we're still working on the details, but more or less the fun trail-blazing stuff. I'd say pretty much everything above an 8.8 swap.
  19. if you've ever swapped a v8 or diesel into an MJ, the journey is indeed epic
  20. a new comanche should have no problem towing 3k pounds of car/dolly if the dolly has brakes. yours isn't new, so I'd suggest lots of test driving so you can feel comfortable that it'll make the trip. especially the brakes. they need to be in tip-top shape. I like rust free cars as much as the next guy, I'm just not willing to risk my life for them.
  21. had a conversation with Pat about jeeps and stuff and he alllllmost has me convinced to just buy a local GA rust free body and swap things over. She's not in all that bad of shape for a MI rig (I've seen plenty of rotted KJs up there), but man some of that underbody is ugly. Maybe I'll just leave it as is and have that as a backup plan should something bad happen. on the other hand, rust free is rust free...

  23. with enough rear bumper, who needs rear visibility? I certainly don't.
