BAck when I drove it a lot, I changed the oil in my 88 every 2k mile (or after every weekend excursion back when I used to drive it to the destination) and I use cheap oil and an expensive filter. :D The engine in the 88 likes to dirty up the oil in a hurry. :( That engine just can't go past 2.5k without a noticeably increasing sluggishness. Change the oil and it perks back up. At one point in time I used synthetic and eventually gave up and went back to the cheap stuff. There just wasn't any benefit to me.

I've got more. :D They're water resistant and heat tolerant. Oh, and cheap.

Now seems to be an excellent time to think about upgrading. :D

If I remember this right, the early AX-15s will need a pilot bearing from their same year 4.0L. Later year AX-15s can use a bushing from a CJ. It's a $2 part (not to be confused with the more expensive and wrong bushing that was also available in some CJs).

Always, always, always, always, always, always, always, challenge a speeding ticket. Only once in my life have I ever not had it reduced, erased, or changed to "impeding traffic" (that's the latest craze around here, no points, no reports to your insurance, and the city still gets their money).

I agree that an extended vacation is what you need. Take a breather to relax and collect yourself. But be careful, you don't want to keep running from life every time it starts to seem hectic. You need to find something that puts you at peace without having to start fresh over and over again. My muse is nature. As far from civilization as my feet or tires can take me. I got that bug from my dad. On family trips he always sought out the less beaten path. We always hiked the longer trails (the majority of tourists are lazy and stay near the roads), stayed at the smaller campsites (to stay away from RV A/C units and generators), and tried to avoid the crowds when at all possible. If you need any help with destination suggestions, I have some favorites I'd be willing to share. And I try my darnedest to bring a small piece of nature home with me. From the landscaping around the house to the natural setting I put in my fish tank. I love the small reminders that bring forth not just memories, but a serene feeling. My happy place if you will. :D A couple years ago I took 3 weeks or so to head out to Moab and I visited with several MJ owners along the way. Just me, my dog, my MJ and the open road. I met lots of friends along the way and my best bud even flew out to Colorado for a few days of hiking in the state parks. I'd love to do that again. :D

There are other, far more cost-effective ways of getting stronger axles. :D

If it's not too personal... how much did ya pay? :oops: A cool grand. :cry: Plus shipping. :cry: :cry: That was back in the days when I had a decent job but no bills and so I had too much money and not enough brains. Also, since my only source of non-borrowed transportation was currently stuck at a shop not anywhere near my house with a totally busted Dana 35, I needed it up and running asap and just forked over my credit card number and sucked it up. In their defense, it was as advertised; a beautiful low mileage unit that needed absolutely nothing. In my defense, well, at least I was smart enough not to consider rebuilding the Dana 35. :D I'll just keep it the rest of my life, swapping it from one truck to another as needed.

Currently? 2 have fire/theft (in "storage" at the moment) and the third has nothing (technically I haven't even registered it yet.) But when they are drivable, I go with the bare necessities. But then my trucks are rusty piles of crap and barely worth their weight in steel. :D

One drop a minute? That's nothing for a Jeep. :D It's not all that hard to replace the rear main, just a pain in the butt and very messy.

In my opinion windshields should be installed by a pro. They are a major pain to remove/install and leaks can go unnoticed until they've soaked the floor under the carpet.

You live in Georgia. I'd go with white. :D I hate how the dark colors absorb the sunlight. :( Someday I'm going to paint my 88 in a light tan scheme, maybe camo. :brows:

I cannot recommend using the complete Explorer leaf pack, as it will push the axle 1/2" forward in the wheelwell. :( While it's a great idea to want to clean up the underside of the axle tube, going SOA while trying to keep it at 3" has a lot of drawbacks. I'd personally go with new shock mounts and then maybe try to adapt the U-bolt flip kits I've seen out there for YJs. :brows:
