Before you pay someone to work on it, try some of the easy stuff, like cleaning the throttle body, giving it a basic tuneup, etc. Stumbling is not generally a problem with the engine block, but rather a fuel or spark delivery issue. If you don't fix the problem now, you will still have it after swapping in the new block and will have wasted a ton of money in the process. The 4.0L is a very tough engine and has proven time and time again that it can go way beyond 200k. And lifting the truck will not kill your engine. Ever.

Don't forget to find out whether or not the 6 bolt pattern will fit inside the explorer disk brakes. The 8.8 flange fits very snugly inside of the rotor.

http://www.bayauto.com shows a couple 95 wrangler front ends for $143 and $110. The cheaper one is listed as 4.10 so you should be able to recoup your money by selling the housing. It's a 3 hour drive from you though... :(

I had a discussion recently with a potential buyer of one of my 8.8s and he wanted to do the same thing, but after I gave him the flange diameter he said the explorer flange is just not wide enough. :(

I bought another Jeep (90 MJ) with the expressed purpose of making it the DD and so the 88 would forever more be my offroad toy. I think it's a good plan. :thumbsup: But I would still recommend keeping your MJ street registered if at all possible. In my neck of the woods it makes all the difference in the world when dealing with the cops about that hunk of rust that never seems to move. :D She's licensed and registered and on private property.

Apparently I got mine before the rest of the world found out about them. :D But on the subject of MJ paraphernalia, I just got my hands on this 2'x3' poster: And no, those aren't pushpins holding it up. Those are pushpin-shaped magnets and I attached some small pieces of metal to the wall first. I thought I snapped a pic of the backside of the poster, but I can't find it. I'll get that up asap.

Just a side note, but after breaking my cheap Harbor Freight pickle fork I drove to Sears to plunk down money on a Craftsman and for some reason not fully understood by the guys in the store, the Craftsman pickle fork, even though it's clearly a hand tool, is apparently not covered by the free replacement guarantee. :mad:

That's what I was thinking. I can see the flat edge on the outer lip and the 97+ flares don't have that. Looks pretty good. :D

All MJ/XJ/YJ/TJ/ZJ and I think all WJ/KJ (my 06 KJ is for sure). The brand new wranglers changed to 5 on 5. No idea what the new GC or Commanders are. The CJs were 5 on 5.5.

If I remember right, GC radiators are taller than MJ/XJ ones.

I had the same problem with my 88. Thank goodness I had no intention of putting the swaybar back on. I want to keep the swaybar on my 90 and so I'm just not going to touch it. Ever. :(

Mechanical fans pull way more air than all but the best electric fans. Dumping the mech fan is a pretty good idea for the 2.5L, but I personally wouldn't do it with the 4.0L. Many of us have difficulties keeping it cool the way it is. :(

Glove box doors are overrated. :D
