There are differing opinions on this so it's up to you to decide. There are also other options out there, like foam or the better-than-paper-but-didn't-require-oil ones I've seen but can't remember the name. I saw it in a 4x4 magazine a while back. Don't know if I'll be able to find it though. Personally, my particular truck doesn't need to "breath better", that applies mostly to higher RPMs where the engine is asking for as much air as the system can flow and my truck doesn't see much of that. Also, with the places I go, my truck needs all the protection it can get.

 dana 60 NOS front axle....
Pete M replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I saw one for $350 on the computer and it was at a local U-pull 'yard!! I practically ran out the door that instant and drove all the way out to the 'yard only to find that the guys don't seem to ever update the computer and the truck was long gone. :( -
In order to filter as well as a paper filter, the K+N has to be partially clogged? And if it's partially clogged, wouldn't that mean it's not flowing better than the paper anymore? That's why I'm dumping the dang thing. Way too much hassle and too many questions about whether or not it's working right. And the paper one still filters better. Just be sure to buy a decent paper one. The Mopar one we got for the Libby is light years beyond the schmuck filter that came out of it, both in design and craftsmanship.

There are other potential problems along the path to getting spark. Could be a bad coil, or a problem under the dist cap. Were you spraying water inside the engine bay?

You could put it back and then pop out the bulb. :D That bulb isn't used for anything but the timer.

valve stem oil seal replacement (2.5L)
Pete M replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Catch bottle for the oil. :D -
If anyone has a closed-system 4.0L and the temps don't ever get above 200, that might indicate a t-stat that's stuck open.

This was hardly the first time that I've gotten complaints about things, but I felt this one was a bit too "hot" to really let it get going. I've seen many other forums that relegate this sort of topic to a special forum so it stays far away of the main plaza of conversation. Plus, many times people post about subjects where there are great philosophical divides, the thing just drags on and on with a bunch of metaphorical shouting. If you want to have a discussion about the war, then it better be civil, without "ranting" and without name-calling (yeah, that includes the politicians too, Hillary is not stupid, and Bush is not a bastard, and the people who might vote for them are not idiots), and I doubt that this particular topic can be handled with such care. If you want to start another topic about the war, go right ahead, but please reference rule # 1 first: http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1239 Thanks, --Pete

Can't turn left-or right for that matter!

That's why I always qualify it with "car-part.com says". :D For 1993 XJ front axle: w/o vacuum disconnect; w/o ABS; 3.07 ratio w/o vacuum disconnect; w/o ABS; 3.55 ratio w/o vacuum disconnect; w/o ABS; 3.73 ratio w/o vacuum disconnect; w/o ABS; 4.10 ratio w/vacuum disconnect, 3.07 ratio w/vacuum disconnect, 3.55 ratio w/vacuum disconnect, 4.10 ratio w/o vacuum disconnect; w/ABS; 3.07 ratio w/o vacuum disconnect; w/ABS; 3.55 ratio w/o vacuum disconnect; w/ABS; 3.73 ratio w/o vacuum disconnect; w/ABS; 4.10 ratio Searching through the listings, most are 90, 91 or 92, but there are some 93s in there. Of course, now we'd be relying on the junkyards to be accurate, and I for one have been burned many times before by the idiots and the 'yards. -
Just for the record, I hate my K+N and will be switching to a paper filter as soon as I can find one that fits my custom assembly. :(

33" tires and 8" wide wheels?
Pete M replied to ChiefJosh's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Your bro needs to check his alignment or his air pressure or switch to a different tire. 10.5s on a 7inch should work just fine. 12.5s on an 8inch should also work just fine. Both require that you figure out the ideal tire pressure for your specific tire/wheel combo and truck weight, but they should work just fine. -
210 is where it's supposed to be. What does the bottom of the radiator look like? All the bad rads I've delt with were bad enough to look like crap at the bottom, i.e. missing or damaged fins, lots of corrosion, etc.

With Jeep there always seems to be exceptions to the rules. For what it's worth, every single slider window visible in all of my dealership brochures are 3-piece. Both four-piece windows I have are aftermarket.

For what its worth, car-part.com shows the CAD available through 93. :dunno: -
Posi was an option so you'll have to check. What engine is it? Auto or manual trans? What size tires do you have?

Is that a compression problem or something? Even I can hold 55 up a grade! Well, the gutless issue was compounded by the extremely high elevation and the extra weight of all the gear I was hauling across the country. :teehee: But regardless, I don't know what the problem is yet. :hmm: Ever since the build-up she's been gutless at high RPM or high speed. Compression was ok, but she spews blow-by like nothing I've ever seen. If that's not the cause, my thoughts were that sitting for 2 years caused problems in the fuel system. It's actually rather embarrassing since I've helped countless Jeepers with their rigs and I still haven't diagnosed my own baby. :( But there were always bigger fish to fry, and as long as it still ran, I was willing to let it slide. It's not like it's my daily driver or anything and it still wheels great. Lots of power at low speed/low RPM. :dunno: I've even got a complete spare gas tank and a spare 4.0L block to swap in if it ever comes to that. First things first though. I've got a half-finished MJ in the garage and a broken minivan in the driveway. :(

I think I count 9 confirmed MJs. Hard to tell what's in the next row over facing the camera. Most are likely XJs.

Cabz, I would try swapping the coils left to right. I had an inch of difference in the rear of my 88 when I was bulding it and I swapped the leaf packs. Ended up not changin' a darn thing so I left it alone. CW, I realize it's a different set-up, but I've never had any issues with the overloads affecting my uptravel (my shocks on the otherhand...). I can't say whether or not springwrap is causing your particular leafs to sag CW (they might just be settling), but 'wrap can cause leafs to sag and the overload will go a long way to help control 'wrap.
-
That's the 88 though. I know it'll do 70 on a downhill slope with a tail wind (just takes forever to get there). :D Up hill through Colorado was a different story though. At the apex of a couple of the long passes I was doing 35mph (in a 75) and struggling to maintain it.

Swapping in just the block would be easiest.
-
Out of curiosity, what would these mods do? Or do you just mean that someone should be put in charge of organizing runs or something like that?
-
For the record, I'm not entirely certain my 86 can even do 60 anymore these days. :D

If the silver minivan is in the driveway or in front of the house, chances are that I'm home. :D Knock on the front door (we don't use the side door). I won't be home much tomorrow (helping someone move :( ).
