Now that I think about it, it's probably easier to just check for voltage at the horn while someone pushes the button rather than feeding a live wire down to the horn. :D

If you can hear the click, then I'd guess that the relay works. have you tired putting 12volts to the horn directly yet? I never had a working horn in my 88, but for 9 years I never really cared. Then one day last summer I decided to track it down and found out that the reason the horn didn't work is that there wasn't a horn! I threw in a horn and connected it to the wire in the engine bay and voila! a working horn. :D

I'm glad bonkers started this thread, 'cause it gives us all a chance to talk about what happened. I realize now that I should have started a new post myself. I am sorry. I've got just a couple more thoughts on this to clear up any confusion. I didn't shut it down because of the email complaints. I would have done the exact same thing without them. I just wanted to point out that I wasn't the only one that felt this way. Plus the decision to take action wasn't just mine. Eagle and I conferred and we both agreed that it needed to be nipped in the butt before it got out of hand (as political discussions usually do). And last time I checked, America doesn't allow you to do whatever you want when ever you want. We have laws to curtail behavior and we have people in charge of us that make decisions that are (hopefully) made with the intent of the greater good and we (to a certain degree) trust them to do that. I apologize that y'all couldn't elect me. I didn't start the MJ Yahoo group, but it was placed in my care and I don't take that responsibility lightly. I don't like doing things in secret and would much rather let everyone know what's happening and why. That's why the topic was locked, not just deleted and swept under the rug. If anyone wants me to start listing rule after rule, too bad, I'm not going to do it. I feel rule number 1 is sufficient to cover instances like this. I've not seen a war-on-terror discussion YET that didn't quickly dissolve into unfriendliness. But I still consider myself a noob at being a mod, and if I don't always handle things exactly as 841 different opinions might want me to, then I apologize. But I will not let this forum turn into anything other than a friendly place for MJ fans to congregate. Once again, if anyone wants to have a polite discussion about the war, politics, religion or whatever, go for it. It's not a hard decision; crappy old van with a crappy old radio, or brand new diesel Jeep with satellite radio (ya can't beat having old school rap available at the touch of a button :D). I knew as soon as I left the van there, that would be the day you stopped by. :roll: Well, today I seem to have only the van, so once again you can try using it as a locater device to find me. :D

greatlakes4x4 uses a system set up sorta like ebay. In a couple weeks I'm getting some cPanel tutoring from the guy running it and I'll ask him how they did it.

The non-C-clip is technically better, but only because when you snap the axle shaft, the tire will still be attached to the truck and not wander away. :D And someone can correct me here, but I think the older axle should have the rubber plug in the cover and the later axles should the threaded steel fill plug, yes? Don't know if it directly corresponds with the C-clips, but I'm betting all the rubber plug axles are non-C-clip

Some places have "inspections" rather than just the sniffer test and this might be something they look for. Don't know for sure. Michigan gave up on even the sniffer test years ago. :D

Does it cut out instantly, like if you turned the key? Or does it sound like it chokes and stalls?

There are differing opinions on this so it's up to you to decide. There are also other options out there, like foam or the better-than-paper-but-didn't-require-oil ones I've seen but can't remember the name. I saw it in a 4x4 magazine a while back. Don't know if I'll be able to find it though. Personally, my particular truck doesn't need to "breath better", that applies mostly to higher RPMs where the engine is asking for as much air as the system can flow and my truck doesn't see much of that. Also, with the places I go, my truck needs all the protection it can get.

I saw one for $350 on the computer and it was at a local U-pull 'yard!! I practically ran out the door that instant and drove all the way out to the 'yard only to find that the guys don't seem to ever update the computer and the truck was long gone. :(

In order to filter as well as a paper filter, the K+N has to be partially clogged? And if it's partially clogged, wouldn't that mean it's not flowing better than the paper anymore? That's why I'm dumping the dang thing. Way too much hassle and too many questions about whether or not it's working right. And the paper one still filters better. Just be sure to buy a decent paper one. The Mopar one we got for the Libby is light years beyond the schmuck filter that came out of it, both in design and craftsmanship.

There are other potential problems along the path to getting spark. Could be a bad coil, or a problem under the dist cap. Were you spraying water inside the engine bay?

You could put it back and then pop out the bulb. :D That bulb isn't used for anything but the timer.

If anyone has a closed-system 4.0L and the temps don't ever get above 200, that might indicate a t-stat that's stuck open.

This was hardly the first time that I've gotten complaints about things, but I felt this one was a bit too "hot" to really let it get going. I've seen many other forums that relegate this sort of topic to a special forum so it stays far away of the main plaza of conversation. Plus, many times people post about subjects where there are great philosophical divides, the thing just drags on and on with a bunch of metaphorical shouting. If you want to have a discussion about the war, then it better be civil, without "ranting" and without name-calling (yeah, that includes the politicians too, Hillary is not stupid, and Bush is not a bastard, and the people who might vote for them are not idiots), and I doubt that this particular topic can be handled with such care.
