  1. Notice the second from the bottom is only touching the leaf above it at the tips and the middle.
  2. My experience with the MJ leafs is that the second from the bottom is what provides much of the lift. I'd bet your truck will sag some and no longer match the other side if you replace it with the next one up. But since there's no way to tell what shape everything is in, the only way to know is to try. Also, that second from the bottom has the leaf alignment thingies in it.
  3. S-10 rad won't fit. MJ/XJs have a very short and long radiator.
  4. This is what I do: Step one is to clean up the battery terminals with a wire brush and examine the cables for corrosion or cracks in the plastic. Step 2 is to take the battery to an auto parts store that checks them for free. If you can jump it with another car, then I'm guessing your starter should be fine.
  5. I second removing the blocks and adding another leaf. I used a main MJ leaf, cut the eyes off and added it under the main in my packs. That should be good for an inch and it'll help control springwrap. My newest MJ is getting the same treatment, but I'm using a main from a code-F Explorer pack.
  6. You could route the battery to the bed or even behind the seats.
  7. You have to move the spring perches no matter what you do. XJ perches will not work under an MJ, even if you go SOA.
  8. I'd like a drivers side floor... :(
  9. No problemo. I was about to type it all out, but figured this way you could know and then direct questions to the guys that actually know what's going on with the AW-4s. :D I'm a stickshift guy.
  10. You mean changing out the axles right? You can't simply swap in gears without setting them up, and junkyard gears don't always take well to being re-setup.

    mpg rant

    :agree:
  12. One is a rust-free 2wd MJ set from Florida, another is a rust-free Explorer set, and then some leftover individual leafs from the 90. The 4 packs will be combined together this spring when I make new packs for the 88 (who's current packs were fashioned from 4 extra-rusty MJ packs, each of which had at least one broken leaf in it).
  13. Solid tie rods are cool. :D Bent it back into shape and I'm still using this one:
  14. Last time I pulled a trans I forgot a couple bolts that attach the trans to the dust shield. Oops.
  15. It's simple, wire it in through a relay and to a switch on the dash. :D Turn it on whenever you want. If you're worried you might forget to turn it off, wire it in to a switched power source so it turns off with the truck. Simple. :D
  16. You DON'T need to lift or do anything is you upgrade to 3.55 gears. Your truck will simply be more fun to drive. :D Now, 4.10s, well they are a bit far from 3.07s, but still you don't need to upgrade else. Just do the swap and enjoy the newfound tire roasting power.
  17. Yup. The curved sliders will raise you up a bit higher than regular MJ buckets would. The power tracks are pretty much worthless to anyone but a hardcore fab guy. Also, the 4 door XJ seats don't fold forward. Only 2 door XJ seats do that. So the ideal junkyard find will be either MJ buckets, or 2 door XJ buckets with the straight slider assembly.
  18. Well, if you're using the Alcon springs, then the whole leaf difference is moot. It's actually a bit better starting with 2wd since you can have your rear driveshaft cut down to the exact length you need. You will need the t-case shifter assembly, including the mount on the underside of the body.
  19. The CPS on the transmission matches the new computer right?
  20. I hate to burst your bubble, but the floor brackets under you bench are the same as the floor brackets under the buckets. You'd just need to adapt the floor brackets to the seat itself.
  21. Gearing upgrades are awesome!! I went from 3.07 to 3.55 way-back-when in the 88 and it was like a whole new truck. It just came alive and was fun to drive again. :D
  22. Anything from Centerforce is going to be expensive.
  23. I haven't heard of anything like that. Maybe they gave you the wrong one again? I always bring in the part I'm replacing if at all possible. The guys behind the counter are not to be trusted. :D
  24. When you say brackets, do you mean the floor brackets or the sliding track that goes between the floor brackets and the seat?
  25. Don't I know it. The price approaches a high-pinion 60. But it weighs a lot less. :D
