If I remember right, 97+ in everything. Before that, look for ABS on the non-CAD axles. Back to maybe 90 I think. Could be wrong on that one. You can always buy an axle in good shape and then upgrade the shafts/joints later if they turn out to be 260s.

I assume you mean 297? I've heard they are stronger, not sure how much, but every little bit counts when it comes to U-joints. I don't think the 760s ever came stock in an XJ, but they are the same size as the 297s, just stronger.

All strapped down and ready to go. :clapping: My friend Mike has to work tomorrow so it's just me and my dog, hitting the open road in search of adventure, or 4.88 axles, either one is good. :D I had a brilliant idea the other day and offered my trailer to anyone needing something large to be hauled along my route north. I got a couple almosts and then got an email from a guy wanting a CJ-8 body brought up. I was happy to oblige and he's paying me 150 to do it (his offer, not mine). By this time tomorrow (barring any nasty weather) I should be examining my potential upgrades. I sure hope they're in decent condition, but either way I'm getting paid more than I'll be spending in diesel so it's win-a-little or win-a-lot. I also expect to get 25 maybe 26 mpg. :D The Libby gave us up to 27 on the return trip from Florida (with the trailer), but that's in warmer weather with a warm-weather diesel mix and I've got a bit more drag this time.

Probably because a torch would likely cook your paint too. The best cure for a snow/ice covered rig is a heated garage. Wish I had one of those... Snow is probably my favorite medium for 4wheeling. Simply trails become challenging, familiar trails become new and interesting, the snow is easy to clean up, completely stock rigs can enjoy it, etc.

Lets all not forget that the speedometer will be off with tire size changes. Not that there are any sort of bragging rights if these times are indeed accurate. :roll:

Plus it'll give me 2 more inches of travel, one up and one down. :D

I'd get a BFG MT. Good road manners, good offroad manners and it's not a heavy tire. Plus you can get them in a 33x10.5 which would help reduce rolling resistance and wind resistance, as well as fit better in the wheelwell offroad.

You're contemplating running 33s on the road with a 2.5L? Have you upgraded the gears yet? Personally, if I was running a 2.5 with stock gears, I'd definitely keep the daily tires at 31s or smaller. Offroad you can use low range to push the 33s around. Also, I would try to keep my offroad tires light. Super Swampers (including the trXus) are a very heavy tire.

Used tires are the best. I bought my set of almost new 33" trXus with rims for $300. Got my set of half-used 31" MTRs and then the canyons to go with them for under $200. :D Although sometimes I have been known to get lucky, the deals are out there if you're patient and diligent.

Not that it's of any help to anyone, but I plan to cut large hole in the bed floor and mount my long travel shocks to the tire crossbar. :D Someday that is...

Whatever you do, don't stop looking for a replacement. :D

How about we use the displacements for this conversation. :D Since the 4.0 and 2.8 are both 6 cylinder engines (and they do not share transmissions).

Can I suggest 2 sets of tires? Best of both worlds. :D

In case you didn't realize it, the 9" might not match your wheel bolt pattern.

Gear ratio should be on a tag bolted to the cover.

Get a shop manual if you don't have one yet. :D

Don't forget that the Peugeot doesn't respond well to increases in power.

I had a leak in one of my MJs back there and I just kept throwing black household exterior grade silicone at it 'til it stopped. The black stuff doesn't stink like some of the clear versions.

What kind of shifter do you have now and what were you looking for?

If it was in perfect condition and needed nothing, I might consider $300. But I've gotten great condition 8.8 axles with disks/4.10s for under $200. Depends on prices in that part of the country.

Unless you have a lift, then it's even better than before. :D
