MPGs are overrated. :D That said, my record to date with the Libby CRD is 31.8 on the trip computer. It's most likely a bit higher than actual, but still. That's impressive for something that can tow 5k pounds. In fact, it'll give me 20-21 while flat-towing the 88 (which likely approaches the max tow rating). :D

I was thinking more of: the 4.0L takes 6 quarts of oil, etc.

Who wants to make a DIY post with all the relevant MJ data like fluid amounts and what not? Copying the page in Chilton's that covers that is ok with me. :D

Looks like you might need to add "longer control arms" to that list. The front tire doesn't look centered in the wheelwell.

http://www.jeeptech.com/convtrans/ax15swap.html If your new trans is an external slave, then you'll need everything that goes inside of it. Nothing interchanges between the 2. The junkyard is the preferred place to get them. And for what it's worth, I adapted my external slave line to the trucks old line using a $2 adapter from the hardware store.

If you're trying to put a later model AX-15 in to replace a Peugeot, then you'll want a pilot bushing from a 70s era CJ. It's a $2 part (which is important because I was offered 2 choices and the expensive one was wrong).

Run down the checklist and see what condition your truck is in. Check the condition of your shocks. Check your wheel bearings for slop Check all your steering components for any slop. Check your control arm bushings for cracking and mushiness. Check that your wheels are mounted properly Check the balance on your tires Check your track bar for slop. Anything I miss?

Get a digital camera and take LOTS of pics. Not necessarily for our enjoyment, but for keeping track of what you did and what goes where. Projects of this scope have a nasty habit of being delayed for various reasons and You'll need to be able to go back and finish it. Also, I highly recommend keeping a log of what you've done and maintaining a spreadsheet of what you need to do. Keeping everything well organized will pay off huge dividends in time and energy down the road. :cheers: Also keep in mind that the gas level sending wires were flipped in polarity with the introduction of the H.O. and you'll need to switch them to make full mean full and empty mean empty.

Yup. Tried that dang grease trick too and only succeeded in spraying myself with grease when it squirted out. :mad: Then I proceeded to break the cheap puller tool I bought. But Autozone has a real nice pilot bearing tool that they loan out for free. I recommend that one. :D

Please do NOT even consider throwing any money at rebuilding a Peugeot transmission. The parts are insanely expensive and it's a real bear to work on. And then even after all that money, it can self-destruct again in short order. Definitely not worth touching.

Under the hood ... or under the dash? I would probably sprinkle it around in the dash area where we thought the leak was before. The water will make some unmistakable trails through it. :D And the floor thing was in my Dakota. Water was puddling under the passenger side footwell but originating from the middle of the back of the cab. Quite a journey I'd say. I doubt I would ever have figured it out without the baby powder.

Also make sure that the fluid level is at the right height. My old peugeot did all sorts of weird things when the level dropped.
