That all depends on your wheeling habits, your tire size, and how much time the truck spends on the freeway. I'd go with the JK rubicon axles before getting a custom front. Under 3 grand gets you the pair of axles (Dana 44 strength and with air lockers and 4.10s). But, they only come in 4.10 flavor, so that's a limiting factor depending on what you're looking for.

Having now driven quite a bit in Georgia, I can say that, while the lack of turn indicator use is a bit unnerving at times, I LOVE going the speed limit on the curvy 2-lane roads. Those idiots on my bumper can kiss my grits. :D I don't fear them. My unofficial record is 9 so far. Georgia better watch out if I move down there. If I'm in a bad mood one day, I might just slam on the brakes for no apparent reason. :brows: In days gone by, I had a toggle switch on the dashboard wired to the brake lights ... My goal now is to mount a pair of Boeing 747 landing lights to my Garvin safari rack -- on the rear, for the doofuses who can't seem to find their dimmer switch whilst riding my bumper.

If you're paying to have gears set up, now's the time to contemplate upgrading your gear ratio. 3.07s suck. And I personally would just go get a junkyard axle from a newer cherokee with better gears than pay to fix an old Dana 30 like that. The last one I bought was $150 and it had 3.55 gears and didn't need a thing.

What gears are you running in the axles?

Maybe. I do know there's a cutoff where it becomes very hard to swap, but I think that comes later on, like in 97 or something.

I think OD is controlled by the little trans computer.

I got lots of funny looks as I was tooling down the freeway in the 88 on my way to and from Moab. Even still, nothing beats the faces of gas station attendants as they race out the door to try and warn me that I'm putting diesel in the Liberty. :yes:
