Just measure, and buy ones that fit?

Rear shocks I have no idea. Mine are fronts, that is what your post showed anyways. Few years old at most. I actually bought the shocks from Dan when he went to coilovers been running them on my XJ ever since. Mostly on-road, some dunes, Big bear, Hollister and Moab. Boots were torn when I got them. Never seen an issue with that.

Hey Johnnyc! How much did you cut your front fenders? And also, what length of 5100s were you looking at? I have a set, currently in my Jeep. "Stock replacement" 10" travel, so for approx 3-4" of lift I think. I have some other shocks that I am planning on putting in.

So, ended up not picking up the 'zu 44. I did, however, manage to pick up a FREE MJ D35. Mostly complete, was just missing drums and a few wheel studs. The MJ still has no powertrain in it, so the front sits higher than it will. And the only u-bolts I had are super long, so I had to use blocks. SO the back sits lower than it will, when I get correct bolts/leaf plates. As she sits currently. Still a ways off from being a driver, but since she is on 4 wheels now it gives me motivation.

Other than a 4.0L, why would anyone want to waste money on an AMC engine? Better off with an LSx, no matter what vehicle it is for.
-
AS long as it is in decent shape overall. 400$ is not bad, Sure you can part out/build it and make some $$

If you want auto, the AW4 is great and comes behind the 242ci. If you want manual, AX-15, nv3500/3550. For an '86 the 3.4L V-6 is a much better choice than the 4.0L. No body work involved, and you can get decent power out of the 3.4L, especially if you keep the EFI. Even better, the GM 3800 Series III ( I think) SC engine should bolt up to any tranny that has the 60 Degree pattern. If you have King of hs Hammers axles, forced induction would be cool as hell! I think Eagle was implying more of a bolt-in replacement. As, for years GM has had/recommended their 3.4L V6 as a replacement engine for the 2.8/3.1 in older vehicles. I6 is probably the best upgrade as far as inspection and such in an XJ. Otherwise, if you are going through the trouble of a swap, why not a V8? Novak makes everything you could want/need to do the swap.

Since the difference is minimal, if you can afford, go with a set of Bilstein 5100's or OME shocks.

Swap To Column Shifter / Interchangeability
Crash replied to willi2ds's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any older GM style column should work. Any modifications will be minor. -
Which adapters are you running? I actually have a set of aftermarket 6 lug wheels that I could run. Have considered a 44/6 front to match if I do not run spacers. As mine sits right meow it is 2wd and no rear axle. haha. Mine is from a 94/95. It is narrower than our stock axle by probably 3". I chose this one on purpose so that I could run adaptors and get my 5 lug bolt pattern back without having the rear tires sticking it a ridiculous amount. The 96+ isuzu axle is wider. I am 100% positive this 94/95 axle would not fit into an XJ. My spring perches are out to the very end of the axle in the MJ. The XJ axle perches sit out wider.

My bad. I was on my phone late at night on vacation. Was the spring perch width the same? I know the logistics of the rest. I have a chance to pick up an earlier model, like yours. Was just curious about the spring perch width. Mine is from a 94/95. It is narrower than our stock axle by probably 3". I chose this one on purpose so that I could run adaptors and get my 5 lug bolt pattern back without having the rear tires sticking it a ridiculous amount. The 96+ isuzu axle is wider. 231 > 242 Swap With '96 Ax15
Crash replied to Comanche_Fanatic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can always cut down the input shaft to the "short shaft" length. -
So, update, I finally found a donor. 1988 XJ. I6, aw4, 231 tcase. Stock axles, vac disco d30 and turdy5. Also, picking up a Synergy suspension, tb bracket and brace in trade. I really want manual trans, but if I cannot find one before I swap power train I will leave the aw4. The plan is to pull the engine/trans and replace most of the gaskets, most likely including the head gasket. Donor and project.

Bad Starter, Now Nothing...
Crash replied to noboundaries.jd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you jump the solenoid on the starter, does it start? If so, then your starter relay has most likely failed. -

Yes, Some renix had blue gauge cluster. I have one from my MJ. IS the speedo you have the one that the 115 is where the 85 would be? Or 115 at the bottom? -
A Copy Of The Parking Brake Recall?
Crash replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For a long while, growing up, my parent's owned an 1989 Honda Accord. In the late 90's/early 2000's one of front seat belt buckles failed. Turns out, there was a recall to replace the front buckles. They took it to the dealer and got it done. But, as other people have said, a safety recall is a safety recall. -

What are the dimensions for the rack? -
I'm sure a bunch of Mopar junkies will say it is blasphemy. But if you are going to put a V8 into one of these things. Put a GM LS-based motor in it. Novak makes everything you need to bolt-in and go. Or, you can make everything yourself. Dollar for dollar, you will be ahead of the game.

The renix system has EGR, which is why 99.9% of headers listed are for 91-00. Most of them should fit, otherwise. You would technically need to "modify" the header to accept the egr tube. Just make sure you use the renix gasket.
