  1. Been researching a 4WD conversion and got the following info from the Yahoo Strokers group regarding T-cases. Posted by hsalf625. Good stuff: There are quite a few differences between the NP231 and the NP242 cases as they are completely different models. The first number is the number of ratios or ranges. Both are a 2 indicating a low range and high range. The second number is the torque rating scale. The 231 has less torque. The reason is that the 242 uses 6 pinion gears in the planetary for low range and the 231 has only 3. Additionally the 242 has a 1.25" wide chain for the front yoke while the 231 chain is 1.00". The last number indicates the type of inter axle differential if any. 1 indicates a part time only 4wd. 2 indicates an open interaxle differential for full time 4wd that is lockable for part time 4wd too. 9 is a viscus clutch full time as in the NP249. Thus the 231 or the 242 should ever slip since there are no clutches to slip. The NP242s are not as common and are in higher demand making them more expensive in salvage yards if you can find them. Shifters are different for the 242 as it has 5 detents compared to the 231's 4 detents, so a longer throw on the rod is required. The 242 is slightly longer in some versions as well. Some Dodge 4WDs used a NP231 HD TC which used the wider chain. It fits in the same 231 case to. No brainer as I see it - I'll be going with the 242 in my 91 since the spline count fits too w. the 91 AW4.

    DEAR LORD!!!

Gotta love the Mexican drag strips. No spectator barriers except chicken wire and touristas wandering around the start line. The MJ ran strong even with no burnout and street tires. Looks good too.
  3. Pull the valve cover. There's a plastic fitting in the rear hole with a pinhole in the middle that meters the internal pressure. If commonly gets clogged and causes blowby. Clean or replace it,then clean up the inside of the cover and the vent towers.

  5. Try searching. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11122&hilit=Dorman%2FHelp
  6. I just did this. You have to purchase nutserts that fit in the existing 1/2" ID mounting holes and a tool to install them. Or make your own tool as I did. I needed six nutserts for my LWB.
  7. Correct. It's M10x1.5x70.
  8. The factory tranny coolers are plumbed in series with the return line after leaving the built-in radiator cooler, so that's how I did mine. This hookup works well in warmer climates, but may cause slower open-to-closed loop transition times in the cold winters up north because the engine takes longer to warm up.
  9. Any visible leaks? I'd say it's a good time to do the dual diaphragm brake upgrade.
  10. Also the slope angle of the cab sides up to the roof is more on the S10 than the MJ. That's very noticeable and you're not going to like it if you're particular at all. Hold out and search for one like the below. Flat roof with an XJ rack on it. This is Gjeeps 92. I really like this canopy........ Image Not Found
  11. No, it's the release handle. Like the picture I posted shows. Like the OP asked for.
  12. Yep, agree with all of that Incommando, except you were too kind. His track record was well known and available to anyone who would care take a look over ay NAXJA or JU and posted by several of our own members. He was banned from several forums for lying and cheating suckers that bought his wares at grossly inflated prices. And also for taking credit for developing and selling products that he stole from the original designers. His religion is: Do others before they do you. I don't feel sorry for any of the fools here that purchased products from him and got screwed as all the info regarding his character was readily available. Hopefully they learned a life lesson from it. When I hear "but he contributed to the forum" I want to puke. He did that on many other forums too before he showed up here and they all banned the jerk eventually for screwing their members. Good riddance and hope he doesn't resurface anywhere else.

  14. It's a 92 - check for fault codes.
  15. Yep. Had many high mileage Benz's back in the 80's and early 90's while overseas, and about the only non-problems I had with them were the OEM Bilsteins. I had no previous experience with them on other vehicles. Mounting the rears with the rubber gaiter / shaft down as Bilstein mandates was also unique for me.

    Fender flares

    Your location?
  17. Got a procedure on how to "check" the height sensing bias valve? Other than if the linkage is correctly hooked up or not?
  18. This thread makes no sense. Defend your MJ? I agree with opsled.
  19. You're going to drop another engine in it when it's up for sale? :dunno:
  20. Glad you got 'er done. What did you do with the clutch pedal? :D
  21. If you use the aluminum spacer plate between the booster and firewall there is no need to touch the lip. I had to slide the old reservoir forward about 1/2" to avoid contact with the booster, easy. Then later I installed the 97+ XJ reservoir inside the left fender, so had lots of room. :D http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5840
  22. Boxing is my favorite sport, even with all the controversy going on today. Leonard, the little Ali wannabee, couldn't hold a candle to the real Sugar Ray. Too much pitty-pat and running. The style of guys like him, Ali, Mayweather, etc. I never cared for, although the Ali - Frazier fights were all great. Nothing made me happier back in the day than seeing Leonard trying to slug it out with Duran and lose a 15 round UD unanimously. My son and I saw that fight live at the Hampton Coliseum, PPV at the time, and we had to be the only Duran fans in the house. We both went bananas and were glad to get out of there in one piece. Leonard never went toe-to-toe with a big puncher again. :D Some of my all-time favorites who never failed to put on a great show are/were: Smokin Joe - Little HW, big left hook with heartus maximus Ernie Shavers - No defense, but a monstrous one punch KO artist Alexis Arguello - One of the best boxer/punchers ever until he ran into Pryor Salvador Sánchez - I think he could have been the greatest Mexican fighter ever had he not died young Danny "Little Red" Lopez - An absolute joy to watch Larry Holmes - Great heavyweight who fought in the wrong era, dominated everyone Julio Cesar Chavez - Senior. His kid is okay, but will never catch up to Dad Marvin Hagler - One tough SOB. My dad knew him well Wilfred Benitez - Best fighter ever from Puerto Rico Rafael Márquez and Israel Vázquez - Their trilogy was the best ever. I could go on and on. There really aren't many fighters today who turn me on like the above, except for one; Manny Pacquiao. When's the last time Pacman ever gave a bad fight? Although lately he appears to be slowing down a bit. I don't give a dayem anymore if he ever fights Mayweather, the ultimate jerk.
  23. Got the Bilsteins on and I had forgotten the all the joys of installing new shocks w/o a lift. Those Bilsteins are hard to compress, much harder than the OMEs. The only way I could do it was to compress them on the bench first to the "at rest" distance between the mounts and tie them there with a couple of looped long tie wraps. Worked well. Anyhow, I been touting OME shocks for years, but have to say I really prefer the Bilsteins over the OMEs. Just a bit stiffer ride, but in a good way, nowhere near harsh. I love 'em. I used p/n 24-188197 (5100 series) on the front, and p/n 33-185606 (5125 series) on the rear. The travel with these is perfect for my 3" lift and I have about 1-1/2" more of down travel than the OMEs did. Also the rears came with the MJ-correct eye on each end; no need to remove sleeves or bar pins to install. And the previous clunking I had heard turned out to be a worn out rubber exhaust hanger, not the original OME shocks. Oh well, love the Bilsteins.
