Yes I bought a brand new XJ sender (make sure it matches your year MJ) and then cut/stretched and twisted it to make it into an MJ sender and worked perfect... This is the Brand New XJ Sender Image Not Found This is the Old MJ Sender Image Not Found And side by side Image Not Found I never did take any pics of the finished sender after modification...

Excessive oil ending up in air box
Jeepman replied to Dkfiii88manche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree With Cruiser start with the simple things that are designed to control the crankcase pressure before going down the internal failure road... -
Yes Just get the rear cables that match your Axle and this cable should work out great for you...

Yes This is for the Hand brake to the Equalizer bracket... It is just the right length with a little slack but not too much and the correct ends to match the OE ends that should be there...

That's good to know I will check it when I start parting out this 2001 TJ I will be getting in a few days...
-
Nothing is going to fit right in... Everything need moding and massaging to make work but that's the beauty of it...

A TJ Tank is a little to deep for my liking, if I were going to do mine over I would have just used an XJ tank and relocated it to the back where the spare tire would go and build a custom skid for it... That would keep things nice and simple heck I might just do it anyways for a secondary reserve tank, ah but then Id have to cut out my custom hitch so time to hit the junkyard to find a small tank to fit up in the rear... Anyone use a TJ tank under the MJ and if so post up a pic or two as Id love to see your install...

Yes Jeep YJ's and TJ's using a 15G or 20G tanks option but they are all 20G tanks... Jeep Cheated and used a longer filler insert tube for the 15G then the 20G, you can pull out the tube on the 15G tank and cut it to 3" or just leave it out and you have a 20G tank and yes they use a different sender for the 15G then the 20G so Now I see why you needed to use the TJ cluster...
-
There is No reason I can see that the sender will not be correct... Remember that both the TJ and the XJ have 20G tanks so if your using the sender that matches the tank then there is no conceivable reason why it would not be a correct reading within reasonable tolerences... Now if you did something like I did with a Dakota 22.5G tank and the matching sender with my XJ gauge then it would be off but in a good way as when the gauge says empty there is still at least 2.5G or more below the empty mark on the gauge...

1997 cherokee windshield in a comanche?
Jeepman replied to dirtyoldjeeper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I never said it was a factory option as you will see I said I changed mine to the newer Auto tint and I got mine out of a Liberty or Grand Cherokee I think... The point is that the 86-92 MJ Mirror may or may not slide onto the 97+ windshields mirror bracket that comes with the glass as my 89 mirror bracket didn't work with my 89 mirror so I had to change it... -
1997 cherokee windshield in a comanche?
Jeepman replied to dirtyoldjeeper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I too have the 97+ glass and Rubber Trim installed on my 89 and it will work either way... The main difference is in the Rear view mirror clip so you have a 50/50 shot that your old mirror will slide on as I changed up to the newer mirror (auto tint) so I didn't care that the old 89 Mirror wouldn't fit anymore... -
For my 97+ conversion I found the perfect match well almost perfect but its the closest I could find after searching the spec in my suppliers catalog.. The E-brake cable I am using when I converted to hand brake is Ultra 6908 Basically a 1988 Pontiac Fiero Rear Right E-brake cable

Precision/Moog/Federal- the saga continued.
Jeepman replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Two weeks says to me they were not installed correctly and were too tight to one cap or the other or the yoke ears have been damaged and I have replaced many for customers because of this, u-joints suck and always need replacing far sooner then we would like regardless of brand and I have installed hundreds of Precision U-joints although I only use the Super u-joint... I switched to CV shafts years ago and have never looked back but my truck see's mostly street with minimal offroad use at this time and when it see's more offroad time I will go RCV's... -
I believe the locker brand is a LockRight as its the only brand I have used that stamps letters on it like that and I have Installed LockRight, Spartan, Lokka to name a few...

What are the down sides to the 4.7 stroker?
Jeepman replied to Jacob Ochs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have had my 4.7L stroker in for a few months now and I can't imagine this engine in a stock truck as I am easily spinning 35" tires with little effort... Now as for downsides I can say this so far - Higher Cost to build (can be done cheaply but I am also going Supercharged) - If your automatic pay attention to your cam choice before buying one and installing it otherwise you will need a custom converter like I do which hurts my economy at this time - As said earlier cam failure is the most common and from what I have read on Jeepstrokers.com its been due to cam walk So far that's about the only considered downsides for me at this time I am happy with my Stroker engine and it still needs a little tweaking to fine tune it... Overall I am Happy with my build and maybe I would have changed a thing or two but its still winter and I haven't be able to fully test her out so once the warmer weather gets here I will make some adjustments... -
I will check on the 39/40 tooth as I have a stock pile of Speedo gears for Customer projects... Which is preferred? Edit: I am fresh out of the 39-40 tooth gears..

Got a 38 tooth long shaft but not a 37...

I have been hearing this statement for years and having the flywheel machined is not as bad as suggested and quite frankly I think it was just a way to sell more parts for a clutch job... I have done hundreds of clutch jobs and have had the flywheels machined on most with ZERO failures... If its clean and not burnt up then clean it and re-install it if its burnt then machine it or buy a new one... For the cost of machine work Id say machine it either way while its apart...

Mine are 18x9 as well... Image Not Found Vision 142 http://www.visionwheel.com/wheel/1136/vision-wheel-142-legend-5 Mine are +10MM offset 5x5 if I were to order them again I would have gone +20MM since I am running WJ Front axle and WK rear SRT8 Axle... Also these are reverse mounted... And to stay on topic...
