I have the 5150's up front and the 5100's in the rear, the ride is absolutely amazing for a MJ with 7" of lift on it. I would recommend either of them if your looking for shocks. I had Gabriel Gas Ryder LT's on before, way too stiff.

steering clunk....updated info...../Questions
Blue XJ replied to lexluthier72's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The track bar isn't too bad to take off, you just have to use a wrench on the nut and getting the cotter pin out can be a pain. Worse case you could unbolt the trackbar bracket from the frame and take the whole thing off. It could also be that your bracket is loose, I've had that happen before and it creates a clunk when turning. I'm curious about the ujoints, I have a clunk I can't track down as well, maybe those are the culprit on mine. -
X2. I only worry when the clunks stop, that usually means whatever was loose has fallen off

I bought the Velcro one that was posted earlier for $75 from truckaccessories.com a couple years ago. It worked great and didn't leak, the Velcro was insane too, it took me hours and hours to peel it off my bed when I painted it.

I got mine from a store that sells on ebay for about $100. There are no baffles in the tank so I can't run it too low.

I have an 80, which is what that one looks to be. They are 190hp stock, but with a 4 speed they are pretty fun. If your serious about getting it, check underneath for rust. The rear frame kickups (where the trailing arms mount) can be very rusty (mine were). The floor pans can rust out, but its not as common. The birdcage (around the windshield and firewall) rusts out pretty good too, this area costs a fortune to replace correctly. Other than some rust, we have had good luck with ours, but expect to have to strip the paint all the way to the glass before the new paint goes on. Your looking at about 3-6k for a 'decent' paint job if the shop does all the prep.

Long Arms-3 Link, or 4 Link?
Blue XJ replied to 88pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Lifting a tire 42" off the ground doesn't mean you have 42" of flex. I'm assuming you have 10-12" of travel shocks on your rig, so your suspension isn't 'flexing' much more than 10-12". Plus a lot of that travel is taken up by the opposite rear corner compressing. Nice looking jeep though -
Long Arms-3 Link, or 4 Link?
Blue XJ replied to 88pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
42" of flex or axle droop while it remains parallel to the ground? Your steering doesn't bind or your track bar doesn't bind or your coils don't fall out? I think your measurement is useless. It ony takes three points to make a plane, the fourth is just an unneeded constraint. Bushings have enough slop to give when they start to bind. Plus any long arm suspension will ride better on road than a short arm with the same amount of lift Edit- I vote for the rock krawler 3 link, I've had mine for about 6 years and have no complaints. After 6 years I'm just needing to rebuild the joints, I think it was $6 per joint to rebuild. -

Its funny that they target just the Chrysler plants. EVERY union plant I have been in has had this going on, not just automotive ones. The plant we have at our building has it too, there are 4 or 5 that get drunk all the time, then hop in company vehicles and bulldozers and start driving them around. We had a hull fall off of a trailer before and it broke through the 12" thick concrete floor and took out a ceiling support ~10" I Beam. Nobody does anything, you can't win against the UAW.

Turn signal flasher needed after 97+ conversion
Blue XJ replied to Blue XJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Really? I figured the addition of the two extra bulbs is what caused it. The flasher/relay heats up instantly, the bulb is on for a fraction of a second each time it blinks. I'll see if I have any loose connections, or maybe pull a bulb out and see if it changes. -
Project JDMJ... tube flares and new paint
Blue XJ replied to Blue XJ's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
After building my fender flares, the paint was looking a little rough, so I decided to repaint it. Cost about $120 for everything, I think it turned out pretty good/.... Couldn't stand the yellow cage anymore, so it got a fresh paint too. Also made a little switch panel for my ARB and winch controls Now I just need a new windshield and it'll be like a new truck again! -
Painted my jeep since I finally finished my tube flares. Now I just need to paint the bumpers, fender flares and cage and it should be all done Oh yeah and finish my pinstripe.on the fenders. I ran out of tape or else they would already be done. Image Not Found

Cut a bigger hole for it to go through, or get a high temp rubber donut to put around the pipe so it doesn't rattle I was picturing something like part number 87235K771 from Mcmaster Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/ Or, weld a pipe solid to the bumper, and then use a short piece of flex pipe to connect the exhaust to it, that would allow the exhaust system to move.

I'm 6'2" with 2 door xj buckets in mine. I ended up cutting 1.5" out of the seat mount to lower them down a little. Its a much more comfortable fit now

I used the Dupli-Color kit with Kevlar http://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-BAK20 ... B003E21QM2 I brushed on the first coat, and then I put the second coat on as thick as I could with the roller.

Wow, after moving mine around by myself, I wouldn't have guessed it was that heavy, although my tailgate was off.

I bought that like 10 years ago, I think I bought it at a store not online, but I can't remember where. It was made by streetwirez, maybe its still available online. Edit: it is streetglow, they don't show it on their website but they led strips now that are flexible. http://www.streetglow.com/s.nl/c.460445/it.A/id.2540/.f

A list of things when rebuilding..?
Blue XJ replied to 87Chief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The only parts I didn't replace duringmy rebuild were the block, crank, rods, bare cylinder head, timing cover, oil pan and manifolds. All the internal parts were replaced.
