I'm all but convinced I'm going to weld it. Thanks. -
Hybrid cage cab brace

How much does the cab flex relative to the chassis? What are the consequences of bracing the back of the cab? I’ll start with the disclaimer that I am not building a proper roll cage – I’m approaching this as a “cab saver” that could probably save my life in a pinch. This means that there are compromises from structural “ideals” in the name of aesthetics. Here are my requirements: Minimal “verticals” to sit outboard of the body. Bed will be in the factory position (I am open to a < 1/2” adjustment rearward by slotting the bolt holes on the chassis side.) Bed will have a tonneau cover; no pass throughs into the bed. My solution for the rear is a lower support structure fabricated from .188” wall 2x1 rec tubing. This will sandwich between the cab and the bed and provide “perches” below the rear glass for the tubular cage. It will tie into my tube rockers and the top of the frame rails. What I can't decide is if I should I weld this structure to the back of the cab, or leave it freestanding. I'm prone to weld it, but should I worry about inducing some kind of stress elsewhere? In a "lean against a a tree" scenario, am I asking to bust the glass out? At full flex, will the welds to the rockers and the frame be stressed and crack?

I've embraced the reality that moisture (and dirt) will almost always find it's way into places like this. Might as well reduce the weight, strengthen the part, and enhance the sexy factor with a dimple

Glad to hear this is typical; I've been dreading chasing my tail trying to fix it. -

Is this intended to be a moisture barrier? -

Column work is such a treat -
Coming up on a milestone! I've waffled back and forth on how much of the body to tackle at once - settled on spraying the whole cab and "chassis" all at once; inside and out, top and bottom. Before this can happen, I want to have all conceivable cutting and welding completed. All locations for sensors, wiring, mounting brackets, Etc. It's taking forever!

I had a local body guy recommend I have the door seals I plan to use installed for door fit up before paint and body, but I can't figure out the reasoning behind that.

I worked on one with a brake issue that turned out to be a failing master cylinder - unobtainium. Edit: I say that as my only reservation with those cars. There's odd parts here and there, being from Aussie land and all, but some are apparently impossible to find - likely the parts used for the LHD conversion.

Project “Tomahawk”

Just replaced an engine in a 2017 Yukon over the summer that had a factory oil cooler in the radiator. Tow packages often times add an external cooler in series prior to the submerged cooler. It's quite common. The goal is temperature regulation, either up or down. I agree with the sentiment that the mj/xj cooling system is already basically maxed out from the factory, but employing a cooler setup as described above would, ideally, not burden the cooling system. It actually might help, if the external cooler brought temps too low. -

There is a reason that the OEMs submerge engine and transmission oil coolers in the radiator side tanks... -

If you didn't already know, these are a treat. I recall the "Jazzman" name... very helpful document regarding Saginaw columns. -
I've used the SprayMax cans for areas too small to justify mixing up a batch. I used left-over PPG ShopLine on my rockers and I'll be using SPI for the rest of the body. I am no body guy, but I've done a fair amount of reading and I'm in touch with some people in the know. Let your own research be your guide.
