  1. Just replaced an engine in a 2017 Yukon over the summer that had a factory oil cooler in the radiator. Tow packages often times add an external cooler in series prior to the submerged cooler. It's quite common. The goal is temperature regulation, either up or down. I agree with the sentiment that the mj/xj cooling system is already basically maxed out from the factory, but employing a cooler setup as described above would, ideally, not burden the cooling system. It actually might help, if the external cooler brought temps too low.
  2. There is a reason that the OEMs submerge engine and transmission oil coolers in the radiator side tanks...
  3. If you didn't already know, these are a treat. I recall the "Jazzman" name... very helpful document regarding Saginaw columns.
  4. I've used the SprayMax cans for areas too small to justify mixing up a batch. I used left-over PPG ShopLine on my rockers and I'll be using SPI for the rest of the body. I am no body guy, but I've done a fair amount of reading and I'm in touch with some people in the know. Let your own research be your guide.
  5. This has been my experience. I'm fully aware that I may have made some kind of critical error in prep, but I couldn't tell you what it might have been. Bottom line: it's brittle, and the roof skin might be the most temperature-swing sheet metal on the truck.
  6. I would suggest you take a good look at people's long-term experiences with POR15 before you use the product...
  7. It occurred to me that I should make sure there is actually adequate exhaust clearance before I commit to primer on the cab... this blossomed into fabbing the turbo down pipe and exhaust system up to the muffler inlet.
  8. If you can figure this out for all models that use this module (GM stuff) and market it properly, you'd have a winner.
  9. Makes me even more glad I'm taking it down to bare metal.
  10. Now THAT'S a motto I could live by! I just checked, it was over 10yrs ago that I applied that POR15... I can live with that.
  11. I've heard similar regarding primer. But this is the OEM applied stuff, as far as I'm aware. Not what I expected to see
  12. I plan to sandblast in the areas that I cannot get at with a wire cup and such. I have a feeling it won't perform any miracles just because of how hard this stuff is.
  13. I've become wary of any one-part product - it's 2k epoxy for me, going forward.
  14. The POR15 I applied a few years ago hasn't held up very well... The powerwasher and the air nozzle peeled off a bunch of the second coat and quite a few spots had rust penetration below the basecoat.
  15. Used some junk tube for mock coilovers to get it supporting its own weight. Oddly exciting.
  16. Same here.
  17. I decided to tackle a section of body work. Going to try and get the roof and cab down to just below the glass channels covered in epoxy. Impressively, I've discovered there has been rust forming below the factory basecoat... 🙄
  18. I finished my modified OE shifter last night complete with a fresh bushing and a new boot. I was hoping for a more drastic reduction in throw, but the stick is really long for now so I should probably withhold judgement until I trim / bend it once the dash and seats are back in.
