engine blew today
WahooSteeler replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thats what I'm saying there.... Find you another one... Even though there are a lot of them out there, I wouldn't want to "have to" find a $1000 MJ/XJ in only 2 days. Too many other problems that may occur, whereas he KNOWS he's up and running in 2 days for $1000 or less and hopefully gets another 100k out of the replacement engine. It's a work vehicle, so that's the cost of doing business the way I see it. I will say this. Of course I'm biased, but the 88 looks way cooler than the other MJ, being a rare Laredo and all, so if it were me I'd make the white one the permanent work truck and keep the 88 for your DD/toy. Hell, then when spring hits, find a donor engine for the 92 and swap the HO in to the 88! A little more work since you'd have to swap all of the HO stuff over, but just another idea. Anyway, your 88 is way too nice to be getting hammered as a plow truck, and with so many new parts recently, it would last a long time as your DD/toy. JMHO...... -
By the way JT, welcome back, been awhile............

I've just never seen them described in that way. Shackles. Yes, I have a pair of Chevy drop shackles with adjustable heights too.

Little Johnny's teacher says they are going to use each letter of the alphabet, give a noun that starts with the letter, spell it, and use it in a sentence. So she starts with "A" and Little Johnny raises his hand first "pick me, pick me!". But she just knows Little Johnny is going to say "@$$", so she calls on Suzie. "Ant. A-N-T. I stepped on an ant and killed it." Very good Suzie the teacher says. "B" says the teacher. "Oh Oh, PLEASE call on me teacher" Little Johnny says. But she just knows Little Johnny is going to say "biz-atch", so she calls on David. "Bat. B-A-T. I hit the baseball with my bat". Very good David the teacher says. "C", "D", well she knew what these were going to be, and on and on and the teacher won't call on Little Johnny because every letter he could say a bad word. Finally, she gets to the letter "R". Little Johnny is about to pee his pants he wants to answer one so bad. The teacher thinks and thinks and can't imagine what bad word he'd say with "R". Ooookay Little Johnny, it's your turn now. "Rat. R-A-T. I saw rat with a 10 inch penis!"

Fellas, IMO, it doesn't sound like he has the time to do his first ever engine swap in the dead of winter when he needs to be plowing and generating revenue. The Vo-Tech idea is an excellent one. Other than that, seems to me if you can find either a cheap MJ or XJ with a decent engine, you jump on that and get back to plowing. Once you're done with that, do the engine swap (either yourself or someone else), and sell off the parts or the whole non-running MJ/XJ and recover some of your investment. But, the fastest solution to your problem is, like you said, to switch the plow over to your other MJ just to get you through this winter. I would hope one plow season will not effect the truck much, if at all. Assuming you've been plowing with the 88 for some time now, it appears you take good care of your truck/equipment for the 88 to still be in that good of shape. Get through the winter, keep the $$ coming in, start setting some aside for the job at hand when you're ready to fix the 88. Oh, and because we're all MJ vultures around here, I call dibbs on the 88 if you want to sell it, because, as previously noted, it is nearly identical to mine. ;) -
DJM, 1. Your truck looks awesome, very clean looking. You need to post some more pics! :brows: 2. What is this "rubicon 1" leaf extension brackets on top of the lift I have now" you speak of? I have never heard of it. :dunce:

socal1200, very nice MJ. have you ever posted pics of it before? hard to believe stock ride height, looks like it's got a couple of inches lift, especially in the rear. djm, used wj LCAs are easy to come by on here, jeepforum.com, or ebay. i've seen as little as $25, but $40-50 will get you a set anytime.

First time I've owned BFG A/Ts and was very impressed. Seemed ok in some of the slush today, we'll see for sure in the next couple of weeks as it all turns to crap. But like you said, they took me wherever I wanted yesterday when it was already over 18" of the fresh stuff.

Yeah, my sister said she got around 14 inches down in the Willow Lawn area, what'd you get down your way? Also, did my good deeds today pulling out a mini van and a GMC Jimmy with my tug-em strap. Loved it.......

I know for you boys in the Northeast, Colorado, Washington etc, 2ft is a more common occurrence. But its probably been well over 20yrs since VA got over 2ft (maybe exaggerated, but even here in the Shenandoah Valley that's a lot), even though we get pretty regular snowfall every year. I think once in the 4yrs I was in Pittsburgh we got this much snow. I went by the office to see if the crews were out clearing snow in the shopping center we manage. I got a scoop of snow from one of the loaders to give me some weight for traction. A little more than I wanted, but the MT springs seemed to not have a problem with it. :brows: In the second picture, that's my car under there.

I thought your 11 yr old brother's name was Ben? :hmm:
