  1. I just downloaded an hour-plus of ABBA. Dang, Agneta was (and is) hot.
  2. 1. Broken leaf spring - not available here but new will be done next week by some local spring master. 2. Rear shock - damaged - Please advise here if those are the same as XJ. The rear shocks are much longer than XJ rear shocks, and they have different mounts. The MJ rear shock us an open eye on both ends. For a truck with the stock suspension (no lift) you need a shock with a mid-travel length of approximately 18 inches (45.7 cm). Here is a chart I made up a long time ago (if I can get it to post): 3. I need to buy rear lamps in US , where do you recommend to do ? International shipment will be necessary . Do you mean taillights? They are only available used -- there are no new replacements. And, unfortunately, because they are rare, they are expensive. I believe a member here is trying to manufacture some replacements, so the situation may change in the near future. 4. Rear window seal - same as above The rear window is held in and sealed by urethane sealant, not by the gasket. The gasket is trim. If your rear window is leaking, it can be removed (CAREFULLY!) just like a wind screen, and reinstalled the same way. If your trim gasket is badly deteriorated, after the glass has been installed and the sealant has cured, I think you could run an additional bead of black sealant around the perimeter and shape it to the profile of the factory gasket. 5. 2 rims are damaged , I like those stock ones , but maybe its a good time to buy 16" or 17" from ZJ . Suspension is stock what max size of rims and tires do you recommend ? 16 inch rims from an XJ or ZJ will work. I would avoid 17-inch rims. 6. Rear bumper damaged , Have somebody experience with welding it ? What is a material of it ? If it is a factory bumper, it's steel. It can be welded, but it's thin sheet metal so it will require a skillful welder to avoid warping the bumper or just burning through the surrounding metal.
  3. Pete gave me an ultimatum (more like a threat), so I'm considering it. It's about a 5+ hour drive for me, so definitely not a day trip. If I make it, I'll be in an XJ, not an MJ, so I'll be there mostly to meet some other folks from the CC. Not sure yet. Much depends on how the job search goes.
  4. In the days of the old XJ forum -- before it died and was reborn as NAXJA -- we had a frequent contributor named Frank Swigert who had been, IIRC, an engineer of some sort at AMC. He had a an AMC Eagle with an AW4 in it. He controlled it manually with a 6-position rotary switch to trip the shift solenoids.
  5. Only for '84 thru '96. Starting in '87, the heavy duty axle was the Dana 44.
  6. My '87 MJ has a Dana 44 and 4WD. From the factory.
  7. What's the route? Are you coming anywhere near me?

    MJ drag race

I wonder what ever happened to Bob Salemi's Pro Stock Comanche. I don't think Bob is still racing, but the truck might still be around.
  9. Duplicate threads merged.
  10. That's one of the real tragedies of the automotive world. "Back in the day," when Jack Clifford himself was alive and running the company, there was no better equipment for 4- and 6-cylinder engines than Clifford Performance and Research. Then Jack retired and sold the company to one of his employees, who proceeded to thoroughly trash the reputation Jack had worked so hard to build.
  11. 29x9.25-15 is not a 235/75-15. It's smaller. There are no chains in the transmission. That must have been a transfer case rebuild.
  12. Do you have a spark at the spark plugs? Is there fuel flowing through the carburetor when you crank it? You need three things for it to run: fuel, air, and spark. So the first step in troubleshooting is to see which one is missing.
  13. I'm not sure that adapter does what you need. There isn't a huge difference in the ohm range from the old system to the new system. Going from memory, I believe the old system was 0 to 80 ohms and the new system was 103 to 5 ohms. Gas gauges are only approximate anyway, so that may not be a big deal. The bigger issue you have is the reversed polarity, and the description of that doohickie doesn't tell me that it can address that.
  14. Answer: NO! The BA10/5 is not a strong transmission. If driven carefully and not over-stressed it can serve for a long time -- but not trying to spin 33-inch tires. The same applies to the Dana 35 rear axle, which is what you probably have. jdog has suggested 235/75-15s as a practical tire size. I ran 30x9.50s for years on my '88 XJ with the BA10/5 and a dana 35. 30x10.50s are almost exactly the same diameter as 235/75-15s, they just have a bit more tread width.
  15. The engine looks like an HO engine, the cooling system is an HO cooling system, and you have an electronic speedometer. Your steering wheel is a "Base" model but the truck has a full gauge cluster, so the previous owner swapped it in -- probably from the same XJ where he got the engine. That CPS connector is NOT the connector for a Renix, so it appears when he did the engine swap he updated everything to HO specs -- even the rear axle is a Chrysler 8.25. My guess is that you need a CPS for a 91-2001 XJ 4.0L.
  16. How? They're too big.
  17. Unless something has changed, there's one head bolt that has to be painted with sealant of some type because it penetrates into a coolant passage. I'd have to look it up to know which one -- I assume you have FSM around?
  18. The purpose of keeping the RPMs up for the first 10 minutes is to keep the oil pressure up. You want to be certain the lifter/lobe interface has plenty of oil when the parts first get introduced to one another.
  19. Which one? The one that sends a signal to the gauge cluster (or idiot light) is on the left (driver's side) rear corner of the head. The one that sends data to the ECU is on the lower, driver's side of the block. The one that triggers the auxiliary fan (if you have one) is in the diver's side radiator tank.
  20. Remember the lug pattern for the WJ is different, too.
  21. Would it be worth trying to disassemble the two questionable lifters and give them a thorough, internal cleaning? Probably not, but it's a thought. That would make more sense on a 2.5L, where you can remove the lifters without disturbing the head. On the 4.0L, if that didn't work you'd have to pull the head again. Ugh!
  22. "It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the end."
