Flared bed sides and front fenders
ScottJeep replied to EnlistedManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So, would you be interested in obtaining complete outer rear fenders, bolt on, like armor that included fender flares. Like this: But made for here: Would you be interested? And, well yes what you see is a fender pattern taken and supplied to a fabricator. -

Brake line to caliper question
ScottJeep replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well if you can't move them that is a good sign. Am using the Akebono calipers as well. What do you think of this swap? What steering setup are you using? Have planned mine for quite some time. But once the Dana 30 for my 4X4 conversion was obtained made no sense to spend the time and money to build up the 2WD setup so the long slow grind of life and JEEP work got a bit slower. Looking like I may even just take some vacation time soon to install the Dana 30. -
Quite a transformation! Dig the silver. Curious. What shocks did you go with? Satisfied with the ride? Not happy with my RC shocks. Finishing up my 4WD axle build out and am considering going with something different regarding shocks.

Finishing up my axle build for mine. 4WD conversion. Must ask. Why did you grind that off? Which calipers are you using? -

Ball Joint Recommendation
ScottJeep replied to JeepFanactic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Went with the Mevotech on the front Dana 30 I am building right now. This is the start of the 4WD / WJ Brake conversion. They appear to be very well designed/built. Like that they are way over packaged; protective cone over the stud then in a protective bag within the box and the box has sub-structure holding it in place. The hardware: nut, clip, retailing clip, zerk fitting is in another sealed bag. Where is the Tranny Drain Plug?
ScottJeep replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Go ahead and prepare to just drop the pan ( new fluid, new gasket ) and.... Add one of these where it makes sense...lowest point when sitting level and that has no chance of being easily ripped off or interfering with anything. http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/60175/10002/-1?CAWELAID=1710595497&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=15769068431&CATCI=aud-60736883591:pla-208615791191&catargetid=230006180037474306&cadevice=c&gclid=Cj0KEQiApqTCBRC-977Hi9Ov8pkBEiQA5B_ipZLcBFdEYS_SRUbvqh33mZrBg36GtOZ9aPdcBjNkSSYaAnwX8P8HAQ -
Have used both brands, Fel-Pro and Victor Reinz. Both worked and, when installed correctly, should install without major difficulty and not leak. Normally very personally particular about how to install but have done several 6 cylinders in trucks and none have been fun and all forced me to try "new things" to get them installed. ( Disconnecting motor mounts and exhaust, drooping front axles. ) IMHO the FP just seems a little better made, somewhat thicker/firmer material, especially at the front and back of the pan. In my area there is about a $5 - $7 premium for the FP over the VR.

IIRC the two vents are connected and then one hose lead back up to the engine compartment. Had my tank out WAY early with the current MJ. Cannot seem to find any pictures from the ordeal. Here is what I found....

Catalytic Converter Heat Shield
ScottJeep replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not sure the size cat you are working with. But maybe something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-68064953AA-Catalytic-Converter-Heat-Shield-for-2007-2010-Ram-6-7L-Diesel-/311439973553?hash=item488344dcb1:g:GT4AAOSwHnFV7JnZ&vxp=mtr My other thought was ceramic coating that section of the floorboard. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-68064953AA-Catalytic-Converter-Heat-Shield-for-2007-2010-Ram-6-7L-Diesel-/311439973553?hash=item488344dcb1:g:GT4AAOSwHnFV7JnZ&vxp=mtr But there is a definite cost difference between the two. -

Had a Softopper on a previoulsy owned 86' 4Runner. Was awesome. Had more people trying to buy the Softopper than the vehicle when I sold it. The older frames were much cooler. All powder coated black a real "safari" look. But were "always up". While understand the marketing for the new design.... all "easier to fold up" for me, was really a fan of that "safari" look. It took all of 20 minutes to take the whole thing off. Measurements are you best information since they don't offer an MJ unit. Delayed on one recently near a family member that I could have gotten for $200 but didn't pull the trigger cause just hung up on old style vs new style.

It's just finding the right buyer. These are truly classics now. They are most familiar to the more dedicated Jeep person. First MJ had some miles on it, over 200K but was in overall very good shape. No rust. The tail gate was slightly dented. The young man that bought it did so because it looked, so he said, exactly like the one he had before. Before it was totaled by a dump truck. From behind. Had picked it up for less than $1K. It required several things ( new tires/wheels, front bumper, rear bumper, steering column ) but got it all squared away. Sold for $2,800. Current MJ was purchased as the "parts truck" from a two MJ CL listing. Just kept after the guy. Knew more than likely nobody would buy them both. He finally said, "Come get this GD thing I am so tired of CL people!" Drove ~8 hours over and back to Don's beautiful state to drag it back. My family thought I had lost my mind. Now after many much work, usually have someone every week or two ask if I'd sell it to them. Nobody has gotten high enough to make me stop walking.

Have done it several times. Last time was for the previous MJ. Used a couple of brand new razor knifes and a pair of gloves bought at Wal-Mart on the way. Paid $40 for the windshield and $80 have it installed by a local guy. It can be done if you take your time and are patient. Two people helps. Unfortunately for me with the Jeep stuff am on-my-own about 99% of the time and have just gotten in the habit of figuring it out.

Transmission problem
ScottJeep replied to Sir Jacob the 2nd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Holy Crap! Man I am glad to see you are breathing and typing! Hoping for a speedy recovery and new build up! -
Yeah, I think in all my buying/hoarding/selling I've come across ONE.

CL can be your friend. People are often leary about shipping but many will. Just have to show them you aren't a Russian hacker trying to get to their bank account. My full set of MOABs 16" wheels were less than $250. All from CL. But I digress. My lift is 2" Rusty's Coils, JKS ACOS, Rough Country gas shocks up-front. Full length Iron Rock AALs and Rough Country gas shocks in the back. Great start IMHO and the ACOSs leave me options to go higher easily. Purchased new longer brake lines, IMMMSC using Alexia's guide via RockAuto. The 2" coils were cheaper, the ACOSs were used but never USED via CL, and the RC shocks while FIRM were inexpensive but with a warranty and RockAuto can work if the leading chains are not close. Again, with a little work/patience/planning you can do it with good parts on the cheap.

Have set. Think with most of the mounting brackets. $35.00 plus shipping.

Sure you prob figured this out but removing the factory air box should be enough to get this task done.

Maybe reaching here.... Have you done the dual diaphragm brake booster? My own brake lights do not come on often unless I STAND on the brakes. Need to tweak my brake light switch / booster shaft connection. Had to add some material (via aluminum tape) when I did mine.
