hgeranium Posted January 22 Share Posted January 22 I thought I’d see if I had any fellow Hi-fi/analog audio enthusiasts here. sadly my entire stack, records, and cassettes are back home right now. That’s one of the things I’m most excited for when I move back. I know the presentation in this picture isn’t particularly impressive. This was when I still had my audio stuff with me in my old apartment 3 years ago. Once I’m in my house, it will look much nicer. Pictured is: Technics SL-Q200 auto start/stop turntable Akai GX-73 3 head tape deck Some crap multi-disc CD player from goodwill Mitsubishi DA-R10 audio receiver Pair of KEF 103.2 speakers I don’t have a good picture of all my records but I think I’ve collected well over 300. The bulk of it is 70s-80s funk/soul but I do have quite a bit of 60s-70s psychedelic and jam rock. Lots of jazz and fusion from 50s-70s, some electronic/EDM, a bit of rap. I’ve got this 1980’s Panasonic tuner/turntable/cassette/recorder/aux input all in one with a quartz digital display. Oh and a brushed aluminum with thin strips of woodgrain in between each deck. It’s a fine piece that I found for $15. According to my Discogs, I have 517 recorded records and cassettes with lots more to add. I also have a victrola from 1921 that was a handed down to me. I've gotten to the point where I sometimes don't remember if I actually bought a record or I just saw it and listened to it at the record shop. Multiple times I've bought a duplicate or missed out on something I really needed Wow those panasonic units look strikingly similar to my Mitsubishi! Brushed aluminum, woodgrain, same rectangular buttons, and the same dials. Goes to show how popular that look was in the 80s. Any pictures of the Victrola? jdog Posted January 22 Share Posted January 22 Oh Yea, I might have an addiction to music, I'm looking at a Pioneer sx-750 playing thru some infiniti speakers, at work I've got a old radio shack special and in the garage I have a kenwood, almost all equipped with some turntable. Older stuff is cool but the vac tube and transistor age stuff can be a nightmare with those old electronics to where the warm sound may be cool but unless you know how to fix that stuff, a real hazard to have. Smokeyyank Posted January 22 Share Posted January 22 Yep, got into vinyl back in the 2000's, then took a break because it was getting expensive and went big into silk screen posters, now back in vinyl again and it's more expensive YAY! Current setup is a Technics SL1500 with a VM540ML cartridge, Denon AVR 2807 receiver, Denon dvd 1600 cd player and Coral audio BX700 speakers. Got a couple hundred records between 12s and 7s and tons of CD's, all punk but some classic rock. Not sure what's a worse money pit music or jeeps. Discogs has been terrible enabler, but is nice to catalog my music and know what I have and heave gotten a lot of stuff on there, especially the hard to find things. Turn tables alone just are crazy expensive for top of the line. And just goes down from there. Before I was born, my dad DJ'ed for a living, and had a pair of SL-1200s but regrettably he sold them. Those large plinth style technics are such ridiculously priced nowadays. Picked up this Marantz 2216 from my grandparents, my grandfather was using it for a basement radio. It was sitting next to the sump pump and was quite muddy. I was gifted from a friend a set of JBL L212 speakers and the B212 subwoofer box. The speakers sound amazing. Sadly the sub had a blown amp and a crappy replacement PYLE speaker from the 90s. I'm working on getting the sub up to spec and sounding good. I am working on putting a little Fosi sub amp on it. Everything was free, I wasn't expecting to get into 70s/80s vintage audio equipment. Got a Marantz 6300 Turntable, Cambridge Audio Integrated Amp, CD player, DAC and Phono Pre Amp. A 1980s Yamaha Radio Receiver is tuned into some sweet country stations at the moment. A set of Pioneer 5-1/4" bookshelf speakers from my college days are still rocking. Finally, a Yamaha sub from the late 90s thumps the low end. Always loved the technics style, timeless. I agree, back in high school I thought I was gonna by the next mixmaster mike, then I saw how much 1200s were and was like yeah maybe not. I really lucked out with my set up, found it at an estate sale, think I paid about $350 for the turntable, receiver and speakers. Love the 1500 my only gripe is lack of auto start and return but guts are pretty much the 1200. I’ve stuck to just nabbing records from goodwill vs buying off Discogs or eBay. Keeps it cheap and if goodwill does their grab bag 45’s, I listen to them all to expose myself to songs I’ve never heard and determine if I like them or not. Sometimes I’ll see some higher end turntables there and contemplate grabbing them but then just think that my set up is pretty good and does what all I need it to. Haha Lmao same here. I'm thinking about getting a special pair of gloves just so i can flip records with dirty hands and have a beater record player outside under the carport.
