MJ value

I got an email from my insurance (Hagerty) that they thought the agreed upon price for my MJ ('88, 180k miles) isn't enough based on what they thought it was worth. I have it at $10k, and they said it was valued at $10,500. Now if something happened to the truck, I could find a much better shape MJ than mine for 10k EASY. It might just be Hagerty trying to get more money out of me. Now to be honest I am definitely in the camp of "MJs aren't worth what people are asking for". I just thought it was interesting

Might be worth checking in to see how much more it would cost to bump up the insurance to where they want it. Better to have it over insured.

This. We are switching to Hagerty because we can't get our current insurer to look beyond KBB value. Wouldn't take much damage to exceed our "agreed" value.

@Car Enthusiast Did Hagerty send an appraiser out?   When I looked into it, they were pretty rigid on requirements ... no mods, Sunday driver ... etc.

Opted out, but I'm reconsidering because I know my insurance company won't give me what it's worth (to me).

No, no appraiser came out. I told them what I wanted it insured at. The only thing that stood out in my mind was I couldn't drive either my Vette or MJ to work. I never drove either to work, but I am about to start a remote work job so hopefully I won't have to worry about that for a while.

I called hagerty once about another car. I was told I had to garage store it and I could only drive it to and from car shows.

They asked for pictures of it. Once they saw the pictures it was a NO.

I didn’t like the restrictions and would have not gone with them. So, I am glad they turned me down.

Huh, I have my Bricklin insured by them. My understanding is I could not use it as a DD, and had to be stored in a locked garage.  That I could drive it to work etc. but not every day. Also, could drive a night. I'll have to check on that. Things might have changed.

Years ago I had one of my jeeps black flagged by insurance and it was no longer insurable by a specific carrier.

They claimed the vehicle was far too modified for legal street use...

If I gave you a shot at guessing you may be surprised to hear they black flagged the black XJ. (33s and 3.5" lift) I argued with them for almost a month before I told my insurance agent to pull everything else (home and 3 other autos) and let's find another carrier.

To this day I have changed ins carriers 2 times and am back with them and guess what they cover without issue - the orange MJ (ls swapped on 1 ton axles and 37" trepadors) in the first picture an my JK on 35s and 4" lift. Both in my opinion are far more imposing than the XJ ever was.

ive never dealt with hagerty because none of my vehicles stay stock for long apparently but i also think there is a level of Who you talk to that can change the outcome. ? No ?

for a final note i had my agent send an insurance inquiry to the problem ins carrier I mentioned above when we first signed back on with them with a few pictures  and specifically mention "it's his adventure vehicle"

They never got back to me :(

I think my insurance values my MJ at like $800. I would be thrilled if I got $10k in a crash, after spending way more than that on restoration, etc.  That being said, I don’t pay a premium that would merit $10k in a crash.

also, all this being said, just to say: “I like hagerty.” They gave me free swag once at a boat show because I had a full handlebar mustache.

probably not enough to justify allegiance, but I put a lot of work into that mustache…

Value you it at what it would cost you to replace it along with your time and investment. The market just isn’t what it was even 5 years ago so a decent replacement will be costly. With insurance, that shouldn’t be your cost to bear. It’s nice to have a cash value that would make it easy to find another vs having to scour and haggle to find one.

I think what he's trying to say...is the best form of insurance for a comanche is having another one. Hint Hint :brows:

I'm not big on paying insurance companies and never getting anything out of it. So I just self insure and over the years have come out way ahead compared to what I would have ever paid a company.

That said, I live in an area with relatively little traffic but an overpopulation of deer and don't own any actually valuable vehicles.  My MJ is probably my most valuable vehicle and it has 269k miles on it.

Pizzaman09 are you a pizza delivery boy that graduated in 09?

Lol, nope, never delivered pizza before but did graduate high school in 09.  Pizzaman09 was my old screen name from playing Halo, just figured I'd keep using it.
