Pete M
and are they still available new? the MJ I'm helping with needs both replaced. I mean, I assume they are available new. I keep trying to get junkyard ones and keep finding them with cracks already forming.

Pete M
thanks guys! sorry for the misplaced circle. technically I'm looking for the door check itself. so amazon reviews of the cheap ones include a lot of "had to mod to get it to fit" and "broke within a year". the mopar ones on quadratec are 100 a pop. ouch. https://www.quadratec.com/products/55014_8200.htm I guess I should go with the middle with a Crown? https://www.quadratec.com/p/crown-automotive/front-door-check-arm-assembly-jeep-cherokee-xj this isn't something that's shared with XJ rear doors, is it? I haven't been checking them in the 'yards.
rokinn
I believe I found a Mopar one for considerably less than that one but I'm not sure where anymore. I did a cursory look through my receipts but don't have time at the moment to look further. I'll see if I can find it later.
The86manche
I actually believe the ones on the xj rear doors are also the same
Limeyjeeper
Pete, they have them on Amazon OEM for 69.99 free shipping. Amazon.com: Genuine Chrysler 55235571AB Door Check Assembly : Automotive
jpnjake
They are cross compatible for 97+. I put a set out of a 98 2dr xj in mine after it broke into 4 separate pieces and wouldn’t allow my door to close. Not 100% on the xj rear door thing tho as mine were out of a 2dr
ghetdjc320
The link from @Limeyjeeper are the ones I have. Genuine Mopar and they are by far a better quality than the aftermarket ones. Team cherokee used to have new oem ones but now they are selling the skf check straps. Not horrible but definitely sub par. The Mopar ones operate smoother and seem to last longer. Pete M
if 97+ will work, I think I'll give that a shot the next time I'm at the yards and compare them to XJ rear doors. I'd definitely prefer mopar. I'll report back with what I find.

I haven't been checking them in the 'yards. The rears from a Cherokee will bolt on, but won't work the same. Your door won't open as far, as the arm is shorter than a front door one. The springs broke on mine, so I bought some rear ones at the JY thinking they'd have less wear; I ended up swapping arms to end up with a proper good set. Minuit
Also, the 97+ ones are better than the factory 96- ones and have superseded them. The older ones didn't have a rubber stop at the end of travel to protect the door hinge from being overextended.
