eaglescout526
Finally decided to sit down and start a build thread on Chunk. A carbed 2.5Litre with a 2-barrel carb that the previous owner put on over the factory single barrel which the PO kept. Current plans are to actually keep this one. What currently needs to be done is all the lighting needs to be added like the courtesy and the ash tray and cigar lighter lamp. A clock, spare tire carrier, marchal lenses, nameplates, wagoneer tails and I think a few other things I'm missing are to be added to him. Also gotta fix that broken window, uggh. I will make sure when I get to the XJ to take better pics but all in all its a nice surviving first model year XJ. There are a few other cosmetic things that will have to be done but I have plans to leave this one the way it is minus the upgrades.

Since the XJ is in WA, she got to name this one.

eaglescout526
Man this thing is a blast from the past and an interesting one too. A lot of 84 oddities like interior pieces and underhood components. Right now I’m working on getting a replacement battery. Group 34 will not fit with the current set up. This one will really irk @Minuit This will get rectified at some point unless 84 condenser is weird like that but I don’t like that. Of the engine bay. Pretty neat. If there’s anything y’all want to see let me know. I got lots of stuff to do and add. I’ll take a pic of the NOS stockpile I got for him.

fiatslug87
That makes the engine bay look so shallow!

But yes I have plans to clean it up at some point. 33 minutes ago, fiatslug87 said: That makes the engine bay look so shallow! It really does! Sad news is floor is more rusted than I saw before. Good news is AMC is full of cherokees with solid floors so I’m not worried there. Put on some NOS XJW tail lamps, courtesy lights, will put on black Laredo molding and one of the replacement marchal lamps I bought mysteriously broke between its arrival and my arrival so I feel like Cameron with his dads Ferrari from Ferris Bueller. Learned that 84 is definitely weird. Doesn’t have a sentinel headlamp plug. Only thing that pisses me off about this whole XJ is the sound system. So I have plans to undo a lot of that and make it all look correct.
eaglescout526
Battery replaced. Fired right up after a couple key turns lol. Everything electronically works and the waggy tails are gorgeous. Next is to do the almighty headlight harness upgrade, replace a ground cable and kinda just give him general maintenance

I have one right now on my phone of the engine running. After the engine warms up and drives it acts like a 500 rpm idle which is odd and the cluster might be off on its readings. More will come tomorrow.
Gjeep
Clean XJ. I never noticed that the '84's did not have rear 'oh $#!&' handles. Possibly this lack of them was a base trim thing?
mjeff87
AutoZone just called......they want their entire system inventory of vacuum lines back.

It does appear that not only those are missing but the top shoulder belts for the back are just mere lap belts lol. 2 hours ago, mjeff87 said: AutoZone just called......they want their entire system inventory of vacuum lines back.
