OEM terminals

Recommended Posts

Wasn't quite sure where to post this... but as I've gotten to know and seek to find every single electrical terminal in my Jeeps over the years, I've finally found a website that has a number of the 97+ XJ style electrical terminals (as well as the '84-'96 era XJ). In addition to terminals, they also have and can source OEM connectors. For those of us who are sticklers in keeping our electrical 'clean', this is a great site. Been using it tracking down things for my '97 XJ build.

Good info.

Now if anyone can find out what the hell those horrible, completely unmarked, almost-but-not-quite-Metripack sealed connectors that they littered the '91 MJ harness with are, that'd be really impressive.

That, and the front lighting connector. AMC seemed to have an affinity for terrible electrical connectors, and misusing them at that. Unsealed electrical connectors in the engine bay for a mission critical safety item? Why not? Once Chrysler started substituting Deutsch connectors and other decent options, it made things a lot less "interesting".

I do a lot of wiring work, and will save this as a resource, but...  wish they included oem part numbers.  Search function is practically useless.  From my limited browsing, prices are ridiculous.  $28 for 10 terminals, $100 for a connector?  No.

Yes to all this.  Not so much my MJ, but I've contemplated custom building the entire wiring harness on my CJ using modern sealed connectors.  With the 5.3 LS conversion, every connection I added or modified got a modern type sealed connector, so it's mostly done.

After digging around some more on there I have to agree.  I'll save it for those moments of desperation.

I'm doing this on a CJ7 right now actually; sealed Sealed Metri-Pac wherever possible.  Junkyard fuse blocks and connectors are easy to find.  Weather-Pac is getting pretty old but there's plenty of aftermarket support for it too.

Yes, when I did my LS swap, I used a lot of connectors from a Chevy truck.  I also had an entire spare engine harness from a Chevy truck, so if I wanted a wire with a particular color and a particular terminal, I could remove that wire & terminal from the connector/harness, and make my own custom setup with factory correct insulation colors.  Added a lot of time, but cheaper than buying new terminals and the proper crimpers to go with them.  Buying an entire harness from a pick-n-pull is actually an inexpensive option to get a lot of quality wire for projects.

I'm always looking for new sources for wire/terminals/crimpers/heat shrink/etc.  I've used Waytek, Mouser, Del City, Amazon, and ebay.

If you are really trying to "restore" and MJ to factory new condition, the website the OP cited is a good place for some of those weird esoteric connectors.   However, they are PRICEY, like REAL PRICEY.

If you are like me, and your objective is to make a reliable, functionally complete MJ, there are other connectors that can be had for much less money and will do the job much better than the crap AMC used back when MJ's were being assembled in Toledo.

There are oodles of waterproof connectors with pigtails on them that can be soldered and heat shrunk into the wiring harnesses out there.  I got mine from Amazon when I redid the harness that feeds the fuel pump and rear tail lights.
