Collectibles....... Toys? Guns? Coins? Sports?

Besides Jeeps and parts, what other things do you guys collect and gather dust with?

I've been collecting pressed steel toys for a long time.  Mostly Nylint, Buddy L, Structo, Tonka, Wyandotte and Hubley.

Then saw some guy in Hawaii was blending new and old by taking apart Muscle Machines cars - the ones with exaggerated engines, tires and wheels and putting those parts on the old steel toys.  Decided to make a few of my own.....

This one is a Nylint Hot Rod with cool rat rod patina. I added Buddy L tires and wheels and a blower from a Muscle Machines car.  Thinking about taking the blower off and getting some chrome buttons from Hobby Lobby and simulate a tri-carb set up..... Soon to get side pipes.

This one got the full treatment.  Butchered an entire Muscle Machines roadster.  Still needs side pipes.

This one is a simple tire & wheel swap.  Soon to get 4-link rods for the front and lake pipes.

Picked up this amazing Commander with boat and trailer recently:

And I've probably got 50 or more other "tin" cars, trucks, etc........ I also collect Danbury Mint, Franklin Mint 1:24 scale die cast, and 1:18 die cast like Ertl.  Couple hundred of those dadgum things all in huge display cases.

I'm also working on a 50 State license plate collection.  Sticking to the 70's era plates where the numbers and state are stamped into the plate, not the later style of flat printed plates.

Wish I had the room to collect early peddle cars but I don't..... so I have to keep it VERY selective.  I have the one my grandparents got me when I was a kid, and another with a trailer I found on craigs list for stupid-cheap......(started a thread about these earlier somewhere..... lol)

I like to collect neon signs. This is my current collection. Missing pictures of some and there is some on the wall to the left that are cut out of the picture.

Went to Wimberly Texas this past weekend to propose to my girlfriend of 7 years and ended up coming home with not only a fiance but these two more neons to add to the collection....

LOL @ the folks that respond quoting instead of simply posting.   Makes for a LOOOOOONG thread of repeat pics.........

I dig the MGD neon........

Thanks! Cool story with that one, I found it on the side of the road broken and took it to my neon guy to fix it. He freaked out about it. Apparently. according to him it is a "One Off" produced the first year MGD was released. He says "One Off" because him and other neon repair aquatints can't find any production info on it or another one like it.  Him and 3 other neon repair guys have valued it between $600-$750. Not to bad for finding it on the side of the road and paying $100 to fix it.....

I have a bunch of Coca-Cola stuff including a '60's can machine. Most of what I have was free or low cost. I like oddball stuff too most of which don't cost much. I just bought 2 Coke labeled 8mm tape reels from the 60's whith a bunch of music on them. I got some gallon Coke syrup jugs in their original boxes from my grandfather who bought them full of moonshine a long time ago. In his later years he was using the stuff for paint thinner. Bottles found in old trash dumps, stuff like that.

At one point when I was much younger I had 7 air cooled VW's in various states of disrepair. I gave those up a few years ago to concentrate on Jeep MJ's and XJ's in various states of dierepair. I only have three of those though.

Anything oddball and old catches my eye though. Especially if its cheap enough.

I really dig the neon signs! I am a farm toy collector. 1/64 and 1/16 are the main sizes I go for. Some are worth a lot of money and others are just special to me. Crawled a lot of miles in the house when I was younger with some of the toys I have....wore out a lot of jeans too.... haha. Now that I am older I wish that some toys were treated a little better than others when I was playing around. It is harder and harder to find a good Ertl farm toy anymore.

I collect pretty much anything Budweiser. I have everything from the usual cans and neon signs to arcade games and even an actual billboard sign.

I also collect AMC cars and Jeeps (both toys and full size cars) Just added the Comanche to my collection last November.

My dad has quite the collection of sports memorabilia.  He has every Kirby Bucket, Dante Bichette card.  Also a ton of other stuff by those guys even some printing plates which there are only 2 or so of them in exsistence.  He also has other random people Tulo, Earl Campbell, Walter Payton.  Most of his stuff is baseball.  Lot of signed balls, bats, cards, pictures and maybe one or two jerseys.  Also has a magazine cover signed by most of the miracle on ice team.

I have a every Bruce Smith Topps card and a collection of parts growing the garage.

A little of this, and a little of that. Mostly video game paraphernalia, wrestling posters, and Gunpla (can't wait for Megacon this year )

Just a humble and small portion of my overall collection.

  • 2 weeks later...

I collect vintage baseball cards, with an emphasis on pre-war pitchers.  My goal is to collect a card (or postcard/picture) for each of the top 100 pitchers of the 18th and 19th centuries, each from a different set.  Then I want to write a book highlighting the history of the cards and players they represent.

I also dabble in non-sports cards, and have been working to complete my favorite set ever, the 1933 World Wide Gum Sea Raider cards issued in 1933.  These can be hard to find in good condition, so I've been grinding away at the 48 card set for several years.  I think I just need 4 more, then I'll look to upgrade them slowly.

...and I collect Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill stuff.

My Mickey Mantle autographed ball.

Thanks for looking!

-Ross

Snatched up another pristine Tonka combo.....

Jeep Gladiator camper and Corvette on a trailer.

And I got my mini-XJ the other day.

Was bummed because it arrived missing an off-road light lens, the rack was barely glued down (loose, about to come off) and the grill guard appears to have been glued where one of the light guards broke leaving a white glue residue.  Company won't exchange.  They're giving me 15% discount and mailing me a replacement light lens.    Beyond that..... it's pretty cool!

Pretty cool thread going here!

Fiatslug's collection is right up my alley!

Love how Red Rocker79 found a retail Sega cabinet to display his collection!

The old collector cards are definitely cool Ross!  Best of luck with your future book endeavor!

 It's coming along. I definitely like the baseball collection. I've got something akin to it in old dealership yearly model brochures. Just about all Jeep though (J10, Cherokee, Comanche). Looking for some vintage AMC brochures at the moment though.  :crossfingers:
