A-man930 Posted June 8, 2021 Author Posted June 8, 2021 Making outboard frame plates now. I cleaned up some old 1/8" plate that had some mild surface rust. Used white vinegar soaked paper towels. Works like a charm for the mill scale as well. mill scale.mp4
A-man930 Posted August 16, 2021 Author Posted August 16, 2021 I had not intended on doing all this bracing, but I just know I'd be kicking myself later for not taking the opportunity; I only intend on having it apart like this ONCE.
A-man930 Posted August 16, 2021 Author Posted August 16, 2021 (edited) The OE suspension brackets are all cut out; what a satisfying feeling! Next step is to finally weld in the floors! It turns out my expectations for fit & finish were a little high; my decision to butt-weld my hybrid pre-made/homebrew pans into place no doubt made this a whole lot messier and more difficult. Oh well. Edited August 16, 2021 by A-man930 Pictures
Pete M Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 is the frame between the track bar and the steering box re-enforced?

Chassis-side track bar mount is going to be reconfigured, but will attach onto the outboard frame plate. I'm thinking the welded-in steering box spacer/brace and the modified BWE comp mount should be more than sufficient to tie up the front of the chassis (link). Though I suppose I could look into it some more...
Pete M Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 just wanted to make sure that bit of the frame is stronger than stock. I've seen stock truck develop cracks between the steering and trackbar.
A-man930 Posted January 15, 2022 Author Posted January 15, 2022 I've always been annoyed at how things tucked behind the seats would always roll/fall forward from the slope of the floor; I've been wanting a flat area for an ammo box or some small tool box for a very long time. I think these will do!
Roadrunner Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 What seats are those? We are working on the floor/seats right now. We picked up seats from a 00 durango. don't really like how high they sit to clear the transmission hump. We have discussed massaging that area a little to lower it.

I ditched all the Dakota slider/mounting and instead adapted to the stock MJ ones. The center console mounting was challenging to get tucked low enough to the trans tunnel; made mounting from scratch. I'll grab some pictures next it's off.
A-man930 Posted January 17, 2022 Author Posted January 17, 2022 Made up and installed some hold-downs for JK floor mats. These should help keep my heels from wearing through whatever I coat the floor with.
A-man930 Posted February 11, 2022 Author Posted February 11, 2022 I intended to take some "finished" pictures of my Dakota seat conversion, but I suffer from tunnel vision when I'm in the middle of a project and forget about the camera... I'm happy with the outcome; they sit low enough and are quite a bit more comfortable than the stock seats.
A-man930 Posted February 16, 2022 Author Posted February 16, 2022 Been getting the control arm brackets installed over the last week or so.
A-man930 Posted February 27, 2022 Author Posted February 27, 2022 Had an 8 hour session with my iron worker friend, tons of progress was made and I'm excited. CFM Industries coilover buckets are tacked-in: Chassis-side 3-link mounts are complete aside from some cleanup and blending. Time will tell if the design places them in an appropriate location, but if nothing else it looks like they'll take a beating. Also tied the inboard and outboard frame plates together on the underside. I may do a bit more on the passenger side to mirror the OE track bar bracing, but it's probably fine and honestly I'm tired of making plates 😂
A-man930 Posted March 3, 2022 Author Posted March 3, 2022 All burned-in! I think I'm gonna figure out a way to brace the inner fenders against these things. They're beef.
ghetdjc320 Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Looking very nice. Do the new coil over towers clear the stock hood?

A-man930 Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 Everyone here is familiar with CAD, right? Well, I use it a lot for my projects. That's "Cardboard Assisted Design" for those who thought I was all fancy
