neohic
Yeah... you know what I'm talking about. That stupid upper control arm bolt that's WAY in there got the best of me this morning and swallowed up my impact socket. Any tricks out there for getting it out or did I just feed my truck a brand new socket? :fs2:
MJRemi
I've seen flexible magnetic wands that would probably work. Auto parts stores or Sears should have them.
Rockfrog
I just grab the chea[p telescoping magnets and bend twist accordingly ... takes a few tries but I've managed to get mine all seven times (I learn slow) ... now I tape the damn socket on. For the XJ that bolt is no longer even used (long arm 3-link). I hate that bolt.
GirsMJ86
I did that once and luckily I have one of those magnets on a really long spring that was able to get in there and grab it. So glad my newest rig doesn't even use that location for the control arm so I never have to mess with that recessed pain again.
ftpiercecracker1
Yup!!! Been there, done that. :fs1: Mine fell into the bed frame, i eventually fished it out after about 3hrs. Magnetic wands are an amazing invention.
neohic
Success!!! My new favorite tool: Found it sitting in the clearance cart at O'Reilly's today. It's got an LED on the end of it and everything!
hassyfoto
Yup, been there, done that. Used a magnetic pick-up and with extensive fishing around recovered the socket. Lesson learned, but over the years, it has happened several times.
mvusse
Mine is still in there.

Incommando
I had to jack up the front of a jeep once and the socket rolled to a place that I could snag it. Not an MJ, though.
Blue XJ
I think I had 2 15mm sockets in my frame rail at some point, I know I have gotten one of them out, the other still resides inside.
Tactical Bacon
Not lost any yet on my jeep but I have bolts riding around in the k-member of my LT1 Firebird.
