That stupid upper control arm bolt that's WAY in there got the best of me this morning and swallowed up my impact socket. Any tricks out there for getting it out or did I just feed my truck a brand new socket? :fs2:

Rockfrog Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I just grab the chea[p telescoping magnets and bend twist accordingly ... takes a few tries but I've managed to get mine all seven times (I learn slow) ... now I tape the damn socket on. For the XJ that bolt is no longer even used (long arm 3-link). I hate that bolt.
GirsMJ86 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I did that once and luckily I have one of those magnets on a really long spring that was able to get in there and grab it. So glad my newest rig doesn't even use that location for the control arm so I never have to mess with that recessed pain again.

hassyfoto Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Yup, been there, done that. Used a magnetic pick-up and with extensive fishing around recovered the socket. Lesson learned, but over the years, it has happened several times.
Pete M Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Mine lust have found some chunk of rust to get stuck on because the mag tool didn't work for me. :( but I got the socket back later on when I hacked off the LCAs to go long arm. :D
