Why Is It So Hard For People To Spell 'comanche'?

When I was looking for a 91-92 shortbed MJ, I wasn't having much luck searching on CL for a "Comanche". When I entered "Commanche" in the search bar, up popped the perfect truck in Las Vegas. The ad was a couple weeks old, so I thought there was no way it could possibly still be available. But I called anyways. The lady said she had not received much interest in the truck (probably because of the misspelling).

So I'm kinda glad that people misspell Comanche. But yeah, it's a little irritating to see Commanche or Comanchee.

I see the double ee on there all the time. I guess their thinking Cherokee when they spell it.

What still gets me and just happened to me yesterday, is people calling it a toyota! Its more of a "in person" thing than a internet thing. I just don't get how you can ignore the obvious jeep front end and the huge word JEEP on the tailgate. All I can come up with is they don't know Jeep made a pickup but Toyota did. So they run with it...

I'm with Johnny. Sometimes you find super deals for MJs because Comanche is misspelled.

Comanche isn't a real popular word with the general population, unless they're aware Jeep actually made a Comanche vehicle or they are familiar with the various native American tribes. Most people are not in either case. Wonder how many people can spell the Paiute or Kumeyaay tribal names correctly..........

Quite a few people think this when they hear Comanche:

It's a hard word to spell.  I mean, it's not like it's on the side of the vehicle or anything.

It really doesn't matter how common of a word it is, when you're trying to sell something(especially a vehicle), you're just flat out lazy if you can't make sure you have the basic details correct.

As long as we're on the subject of misspelling, how about the mis use of same sounding words. Really gripes my cage.

Break-brake

Wench-winch

And a couple more, can;t think of them now.

... but improper punctuation is okay, Jim?  :D

SWEET. This reminded me of that Craigslist tactic. Which just scored me a NP242 for $100. Yep, entirely unrelated, but it came up in the search.

The misspelling has to do with how it is pronounced. People say the syllables "Co"-"Man"-"Che", but the other people hear "Com"-"Man"-"Chee".
