M1A1TankerTom Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Looking for what front coils to purchase that will best match a rear SOA. From what i have found seems like 6.5 is the way to go. Can everybody with rear SOA please post what brand and advertised lift front coils you are running in the front .also would like to hear if you are happy with said coils (do they match rear on height). If ya got pics that's great also.
Pete M Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 could be anywhere from 4.5 to 6.5 depending on the condition of your leafs. I've got about 5" of lift up front to match 2wd leafs with an extra main. also, you're going to want more than coils for lifting the front.
Dirteatr717 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I *think* I have 4.5" rustys coils and 1.75" poly spacers and pretty healthy 4wd leafs. Sits perfect in my opinion.
skidoo_j Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I Netted about 4.75 for a rear lift, I used ruff stuff spring perches and ground the down as much as possible and used xj shackles. I'm running 4+1 metric ton leafs. What i put up front was some rusty's 305 the heavy duty ones, then got a set of jks acos to be able to level it out perfect. To get the rake i wanted i think I adjusted the front to about 4.5.
mvusse Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I have some sort of 4.5" lift coils plus a 1.75" spacer and the rear still sat a bit higher.
89eliminator Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 6.5" Rustys coils my rear consists of... 2wd leaf packs, 1" lift shackles. i also have a spare tire, hi lift jack, and a lot of tools/fluids in the bed. the rear is about 3/4" higher...
SW86 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Rock Krawler 6.5 coils and 4wd leafs. don't let the look fool you, without front flares it doesnt show the slight rake it actually has
codymanche Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 i have old man emu 4 1/2" with 2" puck and with the motor in looks like the front is lower then the rear. i have a pair of rustys 6" springs that are gonna go in with the 2" puck.
M1A1TankerTom Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 I don't actually have a set of stock rear leafs yet, will probably get the best set i can from local junk yard (they have three comanches). Track bar and brake lines are already covered. Thinking i will end up picking up some 6.5 coils, new shocks, and figure out how i want to handle the steering...and should be good to go.
Alexia Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 5.5" Rubicon Express springs in the front. Stock 2WD springs in the rear. The Jeep is perfectly level at zero degrees.

dasbulliwagen Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 ^^^ or control arm drop brackets and adjustable control arms. The drop brackets will keep your on road ride better if youre not offroading all the time, and the adjustable arms will get your pinion angle and caster where you need them after lifting..... and make sure to get an alignment when youre done.... then post us some pics of the finished product! Good luck.
TylerJY Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Stock 4x4 leaves, 6.5 Rough Country coils. It's got a slight rake so doing long arms and 8" coils eventually.
comanchedude Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I have PORC 6.5 coils with .75 poly spacer in front and factory (2WD) leafs soa with 1.25" tall by 8" long spring pads . sets level.. parts have been in service over 5 years and all is well. as for steering I run High steer adapter from JB conversions to make steering linkage work perfect! and custom track bar. at 6" lift you will ant to get your steering system right..or it will always suck. Hi Steer Adapter
M1A1TankerTom Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Ya i plan on running a Clayton long arm set up. Still looking into steering setups...kinda like the wj conversion, but that's more than i wanted to spend on steering at this time.
RynoMJ Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 PORC 6.5 coils with 1-3/4" spacer Sits level.
jeepmarine312 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 hey, I'm wanting to do the SOA and lift the front aswell, but I'm not sure on how to do this, me and my buds can do all the work no problem, its just we need the way to do it ya know, is there a post with directions or a walk thru?
MJ_Milam Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I did 8.5" coils in the front and mine sits level.
mvusse Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 For most people, to match SOA in the back you need ~6.5" out front. This needs: - (adjustable) track bar - (adjustable) upper control arms - (adjustable) lower control arms - longer brake hose - springs - shocks - longer (quick disconnect) sway bar end links I have heard good things about Rubicon Express and have personal good experiences with Rock Krawler. Also have personal experience with Teraflex, but it's not so good. According to people who have used Rusty's and Rocky Road Outfitters, stay away from them. Also know people who have used Rough Country components who originally lauded them, but changed their mind later and swapped out their components for another brand. Don't know specifically what the issues were, though.
