Coon@$$, or Coon-@$$, is an epithet used in reference to a person of Cajun ethnicity.

Although many Cajuns use the word in regard to themselves, other Cajuns view the term as an ethnic slur against the Cajun people, especially when used by non-Cajuns. Socioeconomic factors appear to influence how Cajuns are likely to view the term: working-class Cajuns tend to regard the word "coonass" as a badge of ethnic pride; whereas middle- and upper-class Cajuns are more likely to regard the term as insulting or degrading, even when used by fellow Cajuns in reference to themselves.[1] (In Sociolinguistics, this type of behavior is termed covert prestige.)

Despite an effort by Cajun activists to stamp out the term, it can be found on T-shirts, hats, and bumper stickers throughout Acadiana, the 22-parish Cajun homeland in south Louisiana.

I apologize to whom ever was offended by my sig.It was in no way, shape,or form intended to be racist!

Are you serious? Did someone actually complain about your sig? That is just rediculous. :shake:

If someone is Offended by a sig than they can turn them off. They can go to "User Control panel", then to "board pref", then to "edit display options" and they can turn them off.

I'm not sure if thats an option or not but I tried to reword Coon@$$ with the most politicly correct response that I could.

So I had to post the defintion to show that there was nothing hateful about my previous sig.

I didn't know your sig could be taken offensively.

when my sig said "the more I deal with women, the more I realize that all I want with them is procreation, the rest they can keep to themselves" or something along those lines, I had a few complaints.

my simple answer, shut the freak up and keep your democratic emotionally challenged opinions to yourselves. (this was directed to them, not you).

simple fact is, I will do what I want, when I want, and if someone has a problem with that, they can keep it to themselves.

edit:

and THAT is what being an American is all about.

Yeah I laughed my arse off the first time I read your sig but I just noticed that you had removed it!

Someone pointed out to me that "coon" is, shall we say, an "unflattering" reference to african-americans. Neither it, nor coon-@$$ are terms used in my neck of the woods (I had to google them), but if it's up there with the N-word in other parts of the country, then I felt it was worth sending a PM to let Throttle_Jockey know that someone could horribly mis-construe his words.

Throttle_Jockey is not a Racist

"Coon" has a different meaning in my parts :hmm: . I will be the first to admit I took it the wrong way, but I would have pm'd you if I had a problem with it. I just figure you had the right to look the fool. I apologize for the assumption - I am the A$$ in assume. - Rich

I am by far the person that wants to offend anyone. The reason I posted the definition was so everybody knew it wasn't

intended in any offensive manner, but I'm sure anyone that is from here or has visited here will know that it is slightly different from the rest of the country.Hopfully there's no hard feeling's about this

I know what the trem coon had been used for around here  but just figured it met something different in another part of the county so it did not bother me. Know it may not be the most PC statment in other parts of the county  but also know that american natives take great offence to the "miss use" of of american native names as used in schools, ball teams, mascots and JEEPS

Redneck is another term that a lot of people seem to be offended by, but in my learning, it is a name to be proud of  .
