was putting the final touches on my alignment after replaceing the steering box and draglink.tie rod (with zj v8 components) and was backing up to straighten the wheel, when my PS literally BLEW up causing this...

luckily it turned out its just a hose and not the steering box itself  But word of advice, if you see a shotty connection on the PRESSURE hose....buy a new one.

on a side note, drivers side of the engine bay is looking a little more spiffy

I fixed the pass side tie-rod, changed the oil, found a bad U joint at the tranny side of the rear shaft and got some more time in one the new intake.

Need to spend some time underneath and paint up what the salty roads of New England have done to the poor MJ over the winter!!! :fs1: :fs1:

OH, I found I may have a leaky Bilstein shock too!!! Gonna watch it, but it was wet.... :wall:

Today I had a day off and time on my hands....

SO, I worked on the Air Tube idea.... I started with a 6" piece of 3" exhaust pipe, and a set of Vacuum ports I found @ Pep Boys. The kit is perfect for this and comes with 4 ports and grommets sized for the XJ/MJ large vac/breather lines.

The tubes are made for plastic so the saws that come with it are useless for the metal tube... I use a 1/2 hole saw and filed the hole up to the proper size for the grommets. Then I took out the air box and related vacuum lines. Inserted the air tube in the rubber factory air tube and tightened the clamp. I installed the air filter and tightened its clamp. Now to address the bracket arm. I made this form a stick of 1/8x 3/4" flat stock. I drilled a 3/8" hole and bent it about 70 degrees. Then measure to the height I wanted and bent it again then chopped off the excess. I left about a 4-5" tag end and bent that into a 3" radius to fit to the air tube. I will weld this together, but for now I just "zip tied" it.

I wanted the ability to return to stock, so I found some hose that was the proper diameter to allow the factory tube to slip inside and retain vacuum. I cut the factory vac harness with 2" end to hold the hose. (So I could repair this and go back to stock.) I cut a long enough hose to make up the distance from the top of the valve cover to the side port of the air tube.

So far its working fine...I'll post up again after a couple days...

Finally got my jeep back on the road again.

2 new wheel bearings.

2 new front axle u-joints

1 new brake line on LF

1 new caliper on LF

All new brake lines running to the rear

And took out the height sensing load thingy in the back.

Also adjusted Master cylinder

I bet my mj has better braking power now than when it came out of the factory :D

Did a 280 mile round trip from Redmond OR to Salem OR and back. Through the Cascades, and there's plenty of snow on the side of the road at Santiam Pass. No icy spots, fortunately. Detroit Lake was down some 40'; all the docks were on dry lakebottom.

Pic of the Oregon capitol building in Salem I took today, looking south, for those interested (MJ in low foreground for authenticity ;))

I killed my Red Top Optima yesterday....... :wall:  :wall: :fs1: :fs1: :fs1:

Found that the batt hold down had loosened, allowing the pos side, side terminal to ever-so slightly contact the rear hold down bolt. Effectively discharging the battery...dead, dead, dead!!! $200+ bucks...right down the tubes... soapbox.gif

I tossed in one of my extra boat batteries, (Reg car battery) till I get out to get another Optima. Gotta go Yellow or Blue top this time!!

haha i by recon interstate batterys. they only run about 40 bucks and they work really well. the people there are also very accomidating and will let me pick and choose between the batterys til i find the one with the charge i want, and they also give me a warranty. my dads dump truck takes 4 industrial sized batterys so its always a pain to pay for those, but interstate does us right :D

Pulled the bent & twisted bumper off the 86 MJ & removed the frame brackets & then cut the center cross bracket loose from the bumper. So I now have a full set of spare brackets for an OEM MJ bumper.
