lower trackbar bolt hole
watchamakalit replied to watchamakalit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Everyone says hardened washer. Does that simply mean a grade 8 washer like the local hardware store would have? Or is it something I have to special order? Given the amount of slop in the track bar bushing itself I am tempted find a bolt that fits it snug and get a washer to fit said bolt. Then weld on the washer and make a new flag nut. Sound like a solid plan? Am I over thinking this? I don't have immediate plans to wheel this truck but it might see some light to medium trail use at some point in the future. Just want to make sure all is well and reliable. -

I don't think its hack work so much as just not something a show truck or restomodder would do. I guess it depends on the use of the truck. If your concerned with what the final product looks like, take 15 mins and grind them off. If the looks are not a concern of yours then leave them. My personal opinion, I would take them off and take the opportunity to paint the axle while its out of the truck.

lower trackbar bolt hole

Just took some pics. Here is what I'm dealing with. The factory holes are oblong front and rear There is visible slop in the hole to bolt fit. And the bolt is sloppy in the trackbar itself. So I am open to suggestions. Core says I can drill the trackbar if nessecary but it doesnt look like I will need to. -

Well my spare is back in. I lost a turbine and brand new tire some time ago. The factory bracket under the spare folded in half and I never heard or felt it go. So I made a new bracket, don't worry the knot and nut are temporary till I run to town. Also on the list was a tool to kae lowering and raising the spare simpler. And after the last instance no chances taken. It now gets a dedicated ratchet strap backup. I'm not loosing another turbine. Now to dig into the trackbar....... -

lower trackbar bolt hole

I never ruled out the washer idea. Just wanna makee sure I am fixing the issue as permanently as possible. I don't want to just bandaid it. If the original slop is from the trackbar being loose on the bolt the washer won't fix that. -
^ has a confusing user name. Is he a fan of lug nuts off of flats? Or is he a fan of fake shotgun projectiles?

After some thinking and looking I'm not sure the BMB bolt will work for my situation. It won't take care of the slop in the axle bracket made by the old bolt. I am looking strongly at this kit which come with a new larger bolt and sleeve. Any thoughts? https://kevinsoffroad.com/products/kor-9906-hw-track-bar-upgraded-hardware-kit -

Well she is back on stands waiting on parts. Pulled the tailhousing to reseal a leak and discovered a broken snap ring. I must have stressed it when I tore it down. I have a new snap ring on the way. Guess I'll take time to fix a trackbar and oil pan gasket while its down. -

I heard if they are black they are bigger..... -
Solid advice. Putting a bad head on a motor will cause alot more aggravation than its worth. Have a capable shop give the head a good work over. Its worth the peace of mind.
